A native of Japan, Maya received Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Tokyo University of the Arts (東京芸術大学). During her violin study at the Tokyo University of the Arts, she earned her music teaching certificate for middle and high schools in Japan (中学校及び高等学校教諭専修免許状).

She finished NY Japan Society’s Japanese language Teacher Training Program (Introductory level) in December 2020.
She is currently finishing up the same program with intermediate level in March 2021.

Maya also has 10 years of experience for tutoring Japanese language, offering private and small group lessons to students of all ages. Her Japanese lessons cover everything from vocabulary and grammar, to culture, custom, and fun conversation of course!

I grew up in an environment that required Japanese AND English, so I can sympathize with all of you who have a hard time learning the difficult language. After 14 years of studying Japanese at a language school, I have passed the highest leveled Japanese Language Proficiency Test and whizzed through the AP Japanese Language exam. Whatever your goal is, let's get there.

I am a native Japanese speaker. I lived in the US for 5 years so I speak both Japanese and English fluently. I started helping my student learn Japanese 15 years ago. I teach Japanese at all levels from basic to advanced level including JLPT (Japanese Proficiency Test). I worked in a Japanese company for over 5 years handling client daily so you can learn business Japanese and culture. I also translated website and video subtitles. My teaching style is unique in the way that student can learn the language quickly and naturally!

Japanese and English are polar opposites in many ways.
Sentence structures are upside down. English is written horizontally left to right, but traditional Japanese is written vertically right to left.
Communicating can be difficult when what can be spoken directly in English has to be said in more subtle ways in Japanese, and this miscommunication can cause relationships to break down.
