James is an amazing teacher! My son has taken piano lessons from him for several years. James not only taught lessons and theory, he helped my son prepare “Prelude in C Major” by Bach for a school talent show. They also worked on Erik Satie’s “Gymnopedie”. One year, James helped him prepare a song to sing at a talent show and even came to the show and accompanied him on piano. My son has written songs that James has helped him refine. When my son showed up with a ukulele, James was able to teach him how to play it as well. We love James!

I took around 15 lessons for bass guitar with James and really enjoyed it. James was able to tailor the experience for what I wanted, which was heavy on music theory, but still made sure we applied the theory to the instrument. I had prior experience with some music theory and playing, but hadn't touched my bass in almost 10 years. James was able to figure out exactly where to pick up, provided great materials, and kept me engaged. James is very knowledgeable, a great player, and a cool cat.

He just left our house, like any other Saturday afternoon for three years now, and every time he leaves, I have the same feeling of putting my son’s musical knowledge in the best hands (ever).

Our son passed this year the Certificate of Merit in Piano with a perfect score, and we thank 100% Mr. Shapovalov for such success.

Mr. Shapovalov is a great pianist, educated, polite, and kind. Our son loves him like he was family, and his performance just gets better and better. It is unbelievable how much he improved working with Mr. Shapovalov.

Mr. Shapovalov organizes recitals, workshops, and pre-tests in order to prepare his students for the Certificate of Merit test. He takes proud in his students’ success and works with our son using multiple approaches, all of them orientated to make the lesson fun and useful, totally aligned with the Certificate of Merit test expectations.
