Students will learn how to read as well as play: notes, chords, scales, songs, common chord progressions, guitar tab, chord charts and a whole bunch more! Ear training, chord theory and improvisation will also be incorporated into the lessons.

I generally walk students through a guitar method book.
( a few examples listed below)

Hal Leonard Guitar Method by Will Schmid Level 1

The Christopher Parkening Guitar Method - Volume 1: Guitar Technique

Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method Grade 1

Some primary goals I have for students are to keep them motivated, interested, inspired and challenged.
I love music, and it should be fun, exciting, and entertaining!

You will learn a lot with me and we'll have a good time doing it!

James is an amazing teacher! My son has taken piano lessons from him for several years. James not only taught lessons and theory, he helped my son prepare “Prelude in C Major” by Bach for a school talent show. They also worked on Erik Satie’s “Gymnopedie”. One year, James helped him prepare a song to sing at a talent show and even came to the show and accompanied him on piano. My son has written songs that James has helped him refine. When my son showed up with a ukulele, James was able to teach him how to play it as well. We love James!

It would be one thing if it was just that James (and his entire family) we incredibly musically talented and gifted, but James is patient, kind, unrelenting in doing this with excellence, and man of integrity. All of these qualities make him an excellent teacher in every way.

Tyreese is super patient and thoughtful in his instruction and fine-tuning. Couldn’t have asked for a better instructor after a 30 year hiatus from an instrument that is fast becoming so dear to me once more!
Charles R.
Very good, very clear, very patient. I can actually make a sound out of the clarinet.

The teacher was wonderful. But the platforms connection was poor. Really enjoyed the lesson.

I had a pretty serious obsession with ear training in High School, and I was assistant teaching ear training in 2009 while I was still in college, but my real education in this topic began when I started to freelance. When I started transcribing pieces of music that students would bring and music that I had an interest in but was outside of my training. I learned how to use the fundamentals and eventually bend them to understand music from the ground up in any style. My teaching approach blends Western Solfegge, Indian Classical Sargam and Just Intonation...though I'm happy to just cut the big words and sing with you if that's what you're into.

About Jonathan

I studied music therapy and music theory at Temple University from '06-'10. Learned a lot. Then again, I learned even more teaching at a school for kids with learning disabilities and working as a traveling street performer. Once you see the world and work with some unexpected challenges, you learn

I teach from the ground up, meaning I fully utilize my college background when it comes to music. Nearly all my students all started out with zero background in music and within a few lessons I get all my students reading music for guitar and playing well enough so that they can practice themselves. My approach and goal is to equip all my students with the tools they need to practice and become better musicians on their own. I do not like to use my lesson time to practice with my students unless they needed help with how to practice. Each of my lessons include something new that the student can take home with them. With my more advanced students I dive deeper into guitar and music theory, scales, modes, and harmonic composition.

With an extensive academic background in music, all my students have  a structured and strong foundation of not only the guitar but music in general.

About Ronnie

I have over 10 years of experience playing guitar, 3 years teaching guitar, ukulele, and music, and several years of performing and recording history. I am a graduate of Hunter College CUNY with a BA in music. I have a very effective approach for teaching music and many of my students had zero bac

I specialize in trad jazz and swing. I don’t teach THE INSTRUMENT - you can get that from others; I teach THE MUSIC. I can offer you something you won’t get elsewhere: an understanding of the role the clarinet and sax play in a trad or swing band. How do you choose what notes to play in the ensembles and on your solo? Whether you've played other styles and would like to learn trad/swing, you've played trad/swing but want to hone your skills, or you're new to music altogether, I CAN HELP YOU.

About Dan

I’ve made my living for nearly thirty years specializing in jazz of the 1920s and ’30s - the genres commonly referred to as “traditional jazz” (or “trad”) and swing. I’m the clarinet instructor at the New Orleans Trad Jazz Camp, the San Diego Adult Trad Jazz Camp, and the newly founded New York Hot

"I Googled "guitar teacher, Roseburg, OR" and low and behold, Sean showed up and boy I'm glad he did!!! Sean and I hit it off instantly and the things I wanted to get better at (finger picking, hammer(s) on and off, picking the notes within chords, etc.) Sean was completely versed in! Long story short... I couldn't be happier with Sean as a teacher and as a person he's totally cool as well! I recommend Sean unequivocally and if you want to start to play guitar or even get better as I do, Sean is your guy, no doubt about it!!!"

"Joseph is a special instructor. My daughter had taken lessons from several instructors and none met our needs until Dr. E. He is encouraging and supportive while maintaining goals and expectations. Having attended his full class recitals we recognize the breadth of his teaching capacities. Although our goals are currently focused on appreciation and the basics, we are as warmly welcomed as his collegiate scholars."

"Keanon is a GREAT teacher/artist/musician/mentor

I've been working with Keanon for almost a year now. Aside from being an amazing vocalist himself, he does everything he can to help students reach their full potential and find their voice. He makes lessons fun while constantly keeping you challenged. There's always encouragement from him to strive to be better, which can really bring the best out of singers. Whether you're simply singing for hobby, performing for shows/auditions, or ready to record, Keanon has something to offer to any aspiring musician. He has a passion and love for music and understands it's a gift that must be shared with the world."

5 Guitar Gadgets That Will Change Your Life

When you're a beginner learning the guitar, does brand name matter?  For the basics, an inexpensive (but still quality!) instrument is completely fine, and can offer you a great starting point. Ultimately, the difference between a $100 guitar and a more expensive guitar can be subjective - it all comes down to what you prefer and what your end goals are. On the other hand, there are some added accessories that can make a huge impact on your playing, no matter how much you shelled out for you …
