*** Lesson Details ***
Not only am I a trained singer, I am also an actor. I understand what it is to communicate and show emotion while singing. Before you can do this, you must also learn healthy singing technique. I will help blend the two.

The first half of each lesson will be dedicated to vocal exercises with the second half to songs I recommend or from your own repertoire. My recommendations may be from a different style of music than you are accustomed to, but I will be working towards helping you sing the style you want to sing.

Every voice is different. As a teacher I want to make sure that my students understand and are comfortable with what they are feeling and hearing. While I am an easy going person, I work very hard to help students find the right path to healthy vocal production.

*** Travel Equipment ***
n/a student must have piano in home for use by the teacher

*** Specialties ***
Musical Theatre

***please note: I have 3 cats. They do not come into the studio, but if you have allergies, this is possibly a problem.

Great Teacher

Phyllis is the best singing teacher I have ever had. She is completely knowledgeable about technique and personalizes each class for her students. Phyllis is so sweet, and believes that there is a singing voice inside of all of us. Since I have started taking lessons with her, my range has expanded and not only that, I have gained new knowledge about sheet music that I had never heard before. I would highly recommend choosing her as your teacher.

I have been taking lessons from Michael for about 9 months, and it has been one of the best experiences I have ever had. He is an excellent guitar player, and instructor. He is patient, thorough, and very willing to pace his instruction with the ability of the student. I am in my late 50's and he is just the person I had hoped for in a teacher. I consider going to lesson not a chore, but a pleasure.

I really enjoy the teaching technique. He has a good way of explaining how to play that could be difficult over skype if you aren’t a good teacher in addition to being a good player. He is flexible with scheduling. Definitely recommend.

About Dayna

Hello!,

My classical training began at age 10, when I started to play the viola. From there, I was able to translate my musical skills to violin, guitar, piano, voice, composition, and songwriting.

Originally a biology major at SUNY Purchase College, I quickly became restless knowing that I was unable to focus on music enough. So, I switched it up, followed my passion, and began studying music theory and production. Since then, my life has been focused on teaching, performing, writing, and recording music- and I wouldn't have it any other way!
It's been quite a journey, and I can't wait to share all that I've learned along the way with you.

Whether you are just starting out, or are looking to further the knowledge you already have, I will meet you at where you are, and help you to achieve your personal goals.

Together we can work o

n technique, theory, improvisation, ear-training, songwriting, and more!

"Great experience! Flexible, understanding, and always willing to help even outside lesson time."

"I have had a few music teachers before Teresa, but none have had the kindness, patience, or skill that she has. I came into my first session with very lit
tle guitar knowledge but Teresa was able to meet me at my level and develop my skills quickly and effectively in order to meet my goals. We also worked on piano and voice and she excelled at teaching all three instruments. I recommend Teresa wholeheartedly!"

"I loved getting lessons from Zelda! Her bright bubbly personality is so welcoming. She greeted me each lesson with a cup of herbal tea to sooth the vocal
cords and we then worked on a series of great vocal techniques that have helped me maximise my singing potential.
This has subsequently led to me being a professional singer and touring extensively both nationally and internationally in a number of different singing styles and genres (including Jazz/Classical/Pop/Rock/Folk/Country).
Her safe methods build vocal control and stamina; as well as develop world class expressive and stylistic techniques. She manages all of this while also making lessons fun!"

"Jamison loved his first lesson so much he came home and IMMEDIATELY started practicing for the next one! Amy is an awesome teacher. Both our daughters t
ake lessons from her as well. She was a wonderful presence with the children. She is very complimentary and explains things clearly. Even I learn musical vocabulary and techniques during their lessons! I highly recommend her as a teacher."

Dana
"Great Teacher!

Andrew Brown is a great teacher! I didn't have any music experience when I signed up for my first class, but he was extremely patient and
despite a lack of natural rhythm I learned a lot in every session. Most lessons would incorporate exercises, learning a new beat or technique, learning a song by reading music and learning a song by listening to it. I was never bored during one of his classes as the material was always challenging enough to keep my focus, but not too hard to make me feel frustrated.

I would recommend Andrew Brown to anyone who wants to learn the drums! He's a great teacher and a really nice person!"

"I had a great time at the singing lessons all you have to do is practice and practice and you will become better and it won't just happen over night"
Shannon
"An excellent, intuitive teacher

Mr. Steve is an outstanding teacher whom I would recommend without reservation. He works at the pace of each of my childr
en and they are eager to work for him too. My son bores quickly, but Steve challenges him with encouragement and speed. My daughter is slower to catch on and he accommodates her speed with equal talent. He is creative in his teaching methods and also in his approach to advising more practice or encouraging practice methods. I hesitate to write this review because I don't want to share the gem we have found in Steve. He is kind, patient, encouraging, excited about the music and the kid's efforts, witty, professional and accommodating. 5 stars."

What is Rosin, and How Do I Use It?

By Suzy S.

For beginner violinists, that mysterious lump of tree sap in your instrument case might seem a little strange.  But that sticky substance - rosin - is actually essential to creating a beautiful, even tone. Particularly if you've just purchased a new violin bow, it's important to learn how to apply rosin properly before you begin playing your violin.  The rosin makes the hairs on the bow "sticky," allowing them to grip the string and produce a good tone. First, when applying the rosin, ma …
