I have been coaching singers for over five years and many of my singers have gone on to perform solos at their community events. Within the first lesson, you will be able to breathe and phrase properly. After your second lesson, you will be able to vibrato and mix. The following lessons will address your wants and needs as singer because we all want different sounds. For a reference guide, I typically use The Singing Book by Dayme & Vaughn, Singing for the stars by Seth Riggs, and have the following tools for your lessons: a CD recorder and a Casio electronic keyboard. Each lesson will be recorded onto a CD so you do not have to take notes, you get to practice recommended scales and exercises, and critique your own voice. If you do not understand something then, you will might understand some key concepts later in your vocal journey. I love working with musicians of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you.
We will study proper breathing, placement, stretching your vocal range, posture, poise, vowels, stage presence, communicating the lyric of a song, connecting with your audience, song selection, voice type, ear training, confidence, mic technique, how to read music, music resources, building your repertoire, pitch, rhythm, how to choose a song, vocal exercises, proper technique, mouth placement, tone, and facial expressions amongst many others!
My main focus is teaching the student first and foremost to have a free beautiful sound without tension or restraint. If good breathing and free, easy singing can first be established, we can go anywhere from there!
Lessons will consist primarily of building vocal technique. This will include exercises the student will need to practice, as it will improve their singing. Areas primarily addressed will include: breath support, developing of a tone, intonation, as well as learning songs too.
Students can expect to learn how the body works when singing as well as how to maintain voice health. Correct breathing technique and pitch exercises suitable to the student's level are taught as well.
In class we will learn how to warm up the voice in different ways and how to blend it in order to make it sound smooth and connected. The student sings a song(s) of their choice and I occasionally assign easy homework assignments such as practicing pitch or rhythm, or learning lyrics.
