About Jon
I have been playing guitar since the age of 9. I have studied Classical, and Jazz at CCM's Prep Dept. in middle school and throughout high school as well as rock, folk, country etc. with other local teachers. I started teaching lessons at the age of 18 in local music stores and have never stopped. While doing this I attended The College of Mount St. Joseph where I studied Classical and Jazz guitar as well as Music Ed. In addition to my 22 years of private lesson experience, I have 2 years of classroom experience teaching general music in elementary schools. I believe it is my years as a student and instructor that enable me to be an effective teacher, having had learned what worked for me as a student, and what has shown to work as a teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
I cater my lesson to the individual. I like for students to have
a structured practice routine and working knowledge of music and their instrument, but it has to be fun. I have students who learn Classical, rock, and Jazz. Each lesson is different. Some people just want to be able to play their favorite songs by a camp fire, and others want to go on to perform at Carnegie Hall. I enjoy teaching both lessons and put forth the same enthusiasm for each one. You get out of the guitar or bass what you put into it in terms of learning and practicing. The level of achievement is up to you, I will help guide you to meet your goals regardless of how large or small they are.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Spare music room: guitars, amps, bass; computer with recording software, ProTools seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have all the equipment necessary. I would like the student to have an instrument, but if not I can provide one for the lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I'm really pretty versatile. Over 18 years of teaching anywhere from 80 to 100 students a week will do that.

John is an outstanding player and pedagogue. Over a number of years, I've observed John work with students of incredibly diverse backgrounds, ages, and skill levels. With each and every student, John connects with the individual, finding what will help that person rise to their fullest potential as a flute player. Technical progress is a given when studying with John. Additionally, students consistently enter his lessons eager to learn and leave with a renewed drive to grow. I cannot recommend John highly enough.

Teaching music is one of my many passions - I enjoy sharing and instilling a love of music in others! With ten years of teaching experience, I've taught a variety of ages (including adult learners), levels, and backgrounds. Currently I'm a doctoral student at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music, where I'm a full scholarship piano performance student. I'm also teaching piano lessons out of Willis Music's Kenwood Galleria, where I maintain a private piano studio. I began teaching privately, but while studying at Indiana University, I worked as a faculty member of Indiana University's Young Pianist program. Besides teaching piano, I also teach music theory. Over the last three years, I worked as an Associate Instructor of Music Theory at Indiana University where I taught and assisted in undergraduate music theory cou
rses. My students ranged from complete beginners to honors students. I recently graduated from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music with a master's degree in Piano Performance and Early Music Harpsichord. I also received my bachelor's degree from IU, graduating with Highest Honors. Please contact me with any questions you may have regarding my studio.

Hello! Let me start by thanking you for your interest in private horn lessons! They are a great way to express yourself or make band class at school even more fun by staying ahead of the curve.

I started my career at Florida State University and majored in both Music Education and Horn Performance. During my four years at Florida State I performed at two international horn conferences, a regional and national College Band Directors Association convention, and competed at two southeastern horn workshops. While in Tallahassee, I won the 2nd horn position with the Tallahassee Symphony and section horn with the Sinfonia Gulf Coast. I also received numerous honors including the Big Arts Classical Music Scholarship and runner up for the Florida State Young Artist Concerto Competition. After graduating in 2017 I was awarded the graduate bras
s quintet fellowship at The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where I continue to grow as musician under the guidance of world-renown hornist and pedagogue Denise Tryon.

During my performance career I spent my spare time teaching students! From 2014 to now I have taught many private students some of which have performed with honor ensembles. I also taught in the Florida Public School system in 2018 as a brass clinician and orchestra director. It is extremely important for a teacher to have both playing and instructional experience which is a quality I take pride in.

Chris was a great teacher and help to our daughter. He was also very flexible with our schedule and often helped us move the time to fit perfectly...on Sunday no less! Within a short time both her band leader and us could hear the difference in her performance. Super nice nice guy too and that’s coming from a Gators fan (if you follow college football you will understand this). Best of luck up there Chris!

He is a wealth of knowledge and has an excellent understanding of pacing material correctly for the level of student he is working with. My kids were engaged and excited without being overwhelmed. I would absolutely hire him again.
