Want to learn to speak Spanish? Sign ASL? I would love to be a part of your journey! I am a patient, and friendly person, who is passionate about language learning!
SPANISH: I use my own personal learning experience mixed with a communicative approach to create a teaching method for my Spanish students. My Spanish teaching method focuses on the development of these four skills: speaking, listening, reading, and then writing. Do you have specific goals? Great! Or are you learning just to be able to speak any and all that you can? Awesome! I teach beginner and intermediate and am a conversation partner and tutor for students more advanced! Also be prepared to be challenged to get involved with the Latin American culture around you!
ASL: My lessons will give you a strong foundation in Sign, and then a few training wheels until you fee
l confident in what you know, and can converse about various real-life topics. My teaching method utilizes much of Deaf professor Dr. Bill Vicars' approach--with signed conversation in each lesson beginning with high frequency concepts. Each lesson is full of new signs, grammar, conversation, Deaf culture tidbits, and more.
About me: I fell in love with language when in 2010 I lived, studied, and worked abroad in Colombia, South America. There I studied Spanish, worked with Deaf students, and taught Spanish speakers English. It was such an enriching experience that upon returning to the USA, I decided to fully surround myself with culturally diverse individuals and continue my learning journey.
One of the major differences between learning a language in a classroom and having a personal instructor is that one-on-one help you will receive --- specific to your level, learning style, and language goals. I will help you stop feeling nervous, renew your motivation, and get you communicating in a new language in no time!!
First lesson was great! Joy is very knowledgeable and tailored the class to the pace needed for me. I look forward to continuing to learn from her.

Joy accurately assessed our daughter’s abilities and catered each lesson to engage, as well as challenge her. Our daughter enjoyed her online sessions, where she not only gained conversation experience, but also expanded her vocabulary and conjugational skills. She will be starting this school year with greater confidence in her Spanish class. Thank you so much for all your help, Joy, and we look forward to more lessons with you!
I love sign language! It is not only something I use as a Sign Language Interpreter but as an everyday language amongst friends. What experience do I have?? I have had a lot of experience teaching sign language both for work and pleasure. I have had experience working with many age groups teaching Sign Language. Some Elementary School-High School Level, Businesses and Employees seeking to learn ASL to enhance customer service opportunities, and even young children with multiple disabilities. I cater to many different needs as well! I have taught many children and young adults learning just for fun! Others are more advanced and wish to pursue careers in Deaf Ed and Interpreting. Another one of my highly effective areas is helping those in the medical field learn to better assist their patients belonging to the deaf community.
What can you get from my class that you may not get from others? For starters, in teaching my own courses I have found the best ways to make learning ASL

Embraced by the Deaf community in the state of Massachusetts over 10 years ago, I was submerged in the language and the culture during and after losing what was left of my hearing. I’ve never felt so much love and support in my life. It was quite touching. During the whole “losing my hearing” process, I quickly picked up American Sign Language and began teaching at TLC Deaf.
My family relocated to a different state and I began teaching homeschooled students ASL online via other video chat apps like FT, Skype, etc.
I had no idea that this (TakeLessons) existed and I’m not even sure how I stumbled across this app. I’ve been seeing various vocabulary signed differently compared to what I learned so I’ve been joining classes as well. Furthermore, I believe that there will always be something for you to learn no matter how skilled you are.
I noticed that there were no morning classes during the week and figured that I could share what I know with those who prefer morning classes.
About Brandy Q
I’m fun, innovative, interactive and insightful. I believe that I am skilled at meeting people where they are, understanding how they learn, and adjusting my style of teaching to match their needs. My classes are voice off, but I have many visual cues along with text that will help students understand and flow.
Patient, clear, provide examples to explain concepts, a pleasure to be taught by her.

First lessons can be hard because you don't know what knowledge your new student is bringing. Brandy understood when we could speed up and when we needed to slow down. She is very friendly and relaxed. As a beginner, I highly recommend her!

Mrs. Williams is an awesome teacher. She is very patient and kind. I am not def and not very coordinated but I am actually learning and using what I learn, correctly, with my best friend who I recently reconnected with. Thanks Mrs. Williams for making this so much easier than I expected and working with me through my challenges!

To give you an idea of my strong involvement in the deaf world, I am a graduate student of MA in ASL Teaching from Gallaudet University, the only university for the deaf in the world. I grew up at a residential school for the deaf with ASL as my primary language all my life. I have a deaf sister and I am a proud mother of two sons who are in the interpreting world. I worked as an advocate for the deaf to assure that the deaf individuals are treated equally for last 9 years. I hope to work with you on enriching your signing skills! 😊
I am a graduate student of MASLED program at Gallaudet University. I am proud to say that the quote, MASLED graduates is the “ASL army” is mentioned by our Gallaudet University President, Bobbi this year. It reflects how we take our language, ASL seriously and protect ASL as our unique language. I am the mother of 3 adult sons and two of them are interpreters for the deaf. I also have a deaf sister. I grew up in residential school for the deaf with ASL as my primary language. I had been teaching ASL all my life to my friends, relatives and neighbors. A few of them went on to become interpreters. I taught classes at various sites such as employment places on deaf sensitivity training and ASL classes. I am easy going and put students at ease by discussing our favorite subjects such as pets, hobbies or family. Once the students feel comf
ortable, they are ready to learn!! 😊 Give me a chance and you won’t regret it.
I will work with you wherever you are at. I have skills with DeafBlind Interpreting and was awards the MDBA (Minnesota DeafBlind Association) 2017 Interpreter of the year award.
I am Sarah Hanan.
I graduated from North Central University in 2013 with a B.A in American Sign Language/English Interpreting.
Since my graduation I have been working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in high school to learn independent living skills and job seeking skills. I have also been working with DeafBlind clients out in the community and understand the spectrum of DeafBlind and their needs.
The class would be a combination of learning the language as well as learning about the Deaf culture, (if interested) the DeafBlind culture, and required to be involved in the Deaf community in your area to get the maximum learning possible.
