I have been taking the world by surprise since the age of 4. I began studying at Queens College at 6 years old and was a recital pianist by the age of 12. I was a consumer of music, from the Music Theory lessons on Saturdays, piano lessons on Thursdays and voice lessons on Saturday afternoons, my life was filled with music.

It is to no one's surprise that I completed my first demo at the age of 13 and was performing for Queens Colleges audiences at 14. I went on the rank high in the NYSSMA series in both piano and voice. I also went on to study music in college and began touring with gospel troupes nationally. Since then I has done many workshops, Master Classes, tour dates, theatre shows etc. Too many to date. I am a sought after teacher for voice, piano and broadway singing. I train public speakers, actors and teachers as well.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach out of the Alfred's Piano course, but am open to trying out any music books you may already have in your home. I do expect my students to purchase the books they would like to learn out of and to have the material I have given them for homework ready, completed, and practiced by the time we have our weekly lesson. I recommend at least twenty to thirty minutes of practice every day, and will give rewards for having practiced well, and for performing well in our lessons. I would love it for my students to be clear on what they would like to learn, and I love using songs that the student enjoys to make his or her music learning process fun.

In my home studio, I have a full size Cable-Nelson upright piano, as well as two ukuleles, and two guitars (one acoustic-electric and one electric).

I just finished a series of online upright bass lessons with Dr. Norman. It's wonderful to have a lesson without toting the bass around town. Dr. Norman is impressive in skill and knowledge. There was nothing musically he didn't know, couldn't explain, or demonstrate on the bass. He has a keyboard at hand to play chords or emphasize a particular key, and he is proficient on that too. Dr. Norman is A++.

Hi, my name is Aidan. I'm a composer, performer, guitar instructor and band leader. I teach at my apartment in Cambridge and can drive within the Cambridge area.

I am a Hampshire College music program graduate who has taught students of various ages, skills, and music preferences. I play guitar in Freddy & the Yetis, a touring band out of New England and i'm currently living Cambridge this year to study with one of Berklee's most prominent professors. Ive played hundreds of gigs in my life.

Aidan is a terrific teacher!! I played professionally over 35 years ago and have not played at all since. At this point I could not play ANYTHING. He took me back through the basics and got me thinking the way I did when I was in my teens. Clearly he has the technical aspect of both music and teaching down - but what made him a great teacher to me is his love of music and guitar. Reminded me of why I loved it in the first place. Although we didn't match up on style perfectly - he embraced the music that I loved and got me back up and running - could not give him a higher recommendation!!

My goal as an instructor is to keep the lessons fresh, fun, interesting, and to ultimately guide the students to better teach themselves as they gain experience and familiarity with the instrument and music. Students can have their lessons catered to the music and styles they wish to pursue. Cole Porter is a professional guitarist from Kentucky. Cole studied music at
Western Kentucky University from 2014-2017 with an emphasis in guitar under Professor John Martin. He has played guitar for 19 years in a variety of styles ranging from classical, jazz, blues, rock, metal, finger style, and many others. He has also studied under the phenomenal jazz-fusion guitarist Dani Rabin from the band Marbin and studied jazz improv under trumpeter Dr. Marshall Scott. Also has learned much from Grammy Award winner guitarist Greg Martin.

Cole Porter is a composer and arranger. He also plays a variety of other instruments as bass, piano, ukulele, mandolin, percussion, and extended range guitars.

Cole is also quite familiar with several music production softwares such as Finale, Cubase, Garage Band, and Protools.

He has worked with artists, audio engineers, and producers such as Chris Robertson (Black Stone Cherry), John King (Sixth Floor, South Bound, Sons of the Revolution, and John King and the Mud River Revival), Kenton Embry (Nashville Session player and touring artist), Russell Brooks (The Schools, 00 The Rabbit, Solo artist), David Barrick (Barrick Studios), Jason Simpson (Colter Wall).

Cole has an extensive knowledge of music theory which he applies to lessons, as well as ear training, harmony, solfege and sight reading just to name a few and depending on the wishes of the student. At his alma mater was a member in the guitar ensemble, guitar quartet, jazz band, and classical solo guitar. I'm a very experienced musician and music teacher. I've been a pianist since I was 5, a composer since I was 10, and I played the violin seriously for a while in there as well. I did my undergrad at Stanford, as well a masters there in Music, Science, and Technology, and I'm currently finishing up my PhD in Music Composition at UCSB.

More importantly, I've been teaching music for 10 years. This has included private piano, violin, and theory / composition lessons, and more recently has also included teaching musicianship classes at UCSB.

I think my greatest strengths as a teacher are my ability to understand where each student is coming from, my enthusiasm for all sorts of knowledge and the way things interconnect, and my sense of humor. In evaluations for classes I've TA'd, I always get especially strong scores for clarity of presentation. So if you're finding yourself lost in a fog, I'll find a way of dispersing it!

About Marc
I'm a composer, and I chose this career partly as an excuse keep exploring all the other subjects I find interesting. Most of my pieces start with an extramusical idea – perhaps related to math, literature, programming, psychology, economics, you name it. I then explore and implement this idea as a computer program, and use that program to create a piece.

I've been incredibly lucky in the education I've received. I did my undergrad at Stanford, where I majored in music (composition and piano performance), but I also took a wide variety of classes while I was there, including physics, honors math, psychology, linguistics, computer science, among other things. I never resented general education requirements, because they were an excuse to take classes I otherwise might not make time for.

After my undergrad, I stayed at Stanford to do a
Master's Degree in Music, Science, and Technology. I then took a couple of years off of school, tutoring both privately and at an after-school program for low-income students. The latter was incredibly rewarding, and I worked with students on any and all academic subjects they were struggling with. Finally, I decided it was time to go back to school and really devote myself to composing. I have been a PhD student at UCSB for several years now, and it has been a blast.

All this is to say that I've been tutoring people in all sorts of subjects for almost 10 years: piano, violin, music theory and composition, high school math, calculus, physics, writing, literature, SAT prep. I think that because of my eclectic interests, I can help students make unusual and interesting connections between and within different subject areas. I have experience teaching all ages, from kids to retired doctors who want to learn to compose.

When I took my first tutoring job, I remember feeling that it was crazy that I was getting payed to do something that I was enjoying so much. Teaching is a true passion of mine, and will certainly be part of my life for years to come.
