About Paul
You might not always notice it, but music is all around—from the stereo in your car to the music piped in at department stores. And you also may not be aware that music has a wide array of impacts on your health: Studies show that music has a strong effect on your mood levels and emotions, and also on how you think and your general intelligence. The music you listen to can have a profound effect on your test scores and your ability to quickly process information. And if you’ve ever played an instrument, studies show that you’re already ahead of the curve. Playing an instrument is a great way to test out your creative thinking and push your brain to process information in a new way. Whether you’re listening or playing, a little music can go a long way. I am here to help you realize not only your playing potential, but guide you into not ju
st becoming a guitar player, piano player, but a musician. I am able to teach Piano, Guitar, Music recording from software/hardware to MIDI, including Sonar, Reason, and related software.

I have studied music at California State University San Bernardino, where I minored in music and learned the immense possibilities of the music field. Music is part of my everyday life, and its an honor to know I can play music but also create it. My goal is to show you as the student how to realize that dream.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very friendly, fun and patient instructor. I believe that when you take any type of music lesson, it should be to have fun. With fun, passion, and dedication, sky is the limit. The curriculum I like to use are the most simplified forms to teach an instrument. It's about playing smarter, not harder. I do offer recording sessions to my students to track their progress, and give you a copy to keep as memorabilia.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Bergman Upright Piano. Fender Acoustic/ Gibson Electric. Marshall Amps. Digital and analog Recording Station.

*** Specialties ***
I have basic knowledge of classical works, but my emphasis is in modern rock/ Alternative. I like teaching the songs you like to hear from The Beatles to Green Day! I love all music genres and if I have not heard of the song you want to play I will learn it so that I can teach you!

A Guru

Vir is beyond your typical vocal coach. He was a huge help on things like pitch accuracy and phrasing, but more than anything, his focus on getting me to tap into and harness my inner power has already paid huge dividends in my recordings and performances. Further, Vir is an amazing person to know and his home-studio in Berkeley is magnificent!

I am an adult beginner who has never picked up a violin but has always loved it. Katherine is the perfect teacher for anyone either starting from the very beginning or looking to learn more. It is very impressive that she is able to teach someone who is not eve able to properly hold the instrument yet, to then play her own violin at such an advanced level. I am so happy we found her in our search. If you are simply interested in the violin or looking to further your skills, I would HIGHLY recommend her!

Katherine is teaching my 5-year old daughter to play violin. My daughter is a high energy kid who is still learning letters in kindergarten so Katherine has had her work cut out for her to teach her to play and read music. However, with patience and clever ways of teaching I can see that my daughter is understanding the fundamentals of music and if anyone can teach my daughter to play violin, it's Katherine.

About Sterling
Sterling C. Sample . A professional steel pan player from the islands of Trinidad & Tobago was born in a family of musician and steel pan manufacturers, whom we call the tuners in our country. From the day his uncle Oscar Haynes took him to the pan yard at eight years old, he fell madly in love with the instrument- the steel pan. By the age of 11 years, he was already playing songs from just hearing them. While all the other boys were playing soccer and partying, Sterling was finding old steel-drums that were discarded by his Uncle Birth Morris. Fixing and tuning the drums, and arranging Christmas songs for himself and his cousins to play,
Sterling started playing for the folks in the neighborhood in exchange for a tip of a dollar or a quarter. It was then that he realized that he was gifted with the talent to teach and play this lovel
y instrument. Sterling joined his family band, the Windside steel orchestra, comprised of his cousins and uncle where he learnt to play all the folk songs of the West Indies like yellow bird and island in the sun just to name a few. He also spent three years with the Amoco Renegades steel orchestra from 1978 to 1980. He later joined a most prestigious band, the W.I.T.C.O Desperadoes steel orchestra, known as the finest steel orchestra in the world.
He toured with the band for a decade, which included trips to England, the U.S.A which including two trips to Carnegie Hall and to other West Indian Islands. During his time with the band, they won five national championships. he was elected vice captain of the band two years before he migrated to the U.S.A in 1992, where he continued playing and teaching with the New York chapter of Desperadoes steel orchestra. Sterling was very instrumental as drill master in leading this band to a record six straight West Indian day/labor day/ pan competitions victories. after hearing the call of God in his life sterling left steel-drums competition. and formed his own company to play and teach the steel drums....he is a professional entertainer and has created a steel pan app for students worldwide

I feel honored to take lessons from someone who actually played for many years with one of the top steelbands in Trinidad, WITCO Desperadoes. Since I was a beginner, Sterling started with the fundamentals such as identifying the notes on the tenor pan, proper posture, and "sticking" techniques. I progressed to learning and practicing scales, to identifying the Key Signature of a song. He is a patient, gifted musician, who loves sharing his passion for this beautiful instrument.
