I specialize in classical music and any other style my students want to learn, typically use Essential Elements books, and have the following tools available for your lessons: solo music, rosin, shoulder rests, cleaning supplies, etc. Some items may need to be ordered from our store, Music House. Kyle is a great teacher. My grandson Franklin has trouble with paying attention, but Kyle was great when it comes to keeping him focused and interested. He has been with Kyle for close to a year now, and even though he is only 8 years old, he has learned a lot! I would highly recommend taking lessons with Kyle. He makes both grandparents and students happy and, my grandson looks forward to lessons every week with him.

Kyle does a fantastic job understanding the needs of the student and is able to relate to them in a way that helps them to learn.

I have nearly 10 years teaching experience of all levels, ranging from beginning 5 year olds, beginning adults, high school students preparing for college music program auditions, students with autism or other special needs, and everything in between! I work for Houston Youth Symphony for their outreach programs providing lessons and group lessons in the public schools. I also work as a sectional and chamber music coach. I have completed the first two books of Suzuki Violin Book Teacher Training at the Greater Austin Suzuki Institute.

I currently have a very flexible schedule, as all of my upcoming performances and group teaching in the schools have been cancelled/ postponed due to the corona virus! I am therefore trying to increase my online teaching. I am happy to work with each individual to meet his or her musical goals, whatever those may be!

About Rachel

I am a professional violinist and violin and viola teacher. I am currently Assistant Concertmaster of Houston Ballet Orchestra, a position I have held since 2014. I also frequently perform with Houston Grand Opera and work as a substitute violinist for Houston Symphony and other groups in Houston.

I wish I could say many things but one thing I would love to share is that Ms. Rachel is the beat teacher anyone could ask for she really shows she cares, tells you your mistake, and Ms. Rachel helps even when it’s already good she tries to make it great not just good!!
Charlotte
I have been taking lessons from Rachel for almost two years. She usually teaches me in her home but we now do online lessons. Rachel helps me with my middle school orchestra pieces and we also follow the Suzuki series and music theory. She is patient and understands how to help me become a better violin player.

She likes to focus on the positive and is never negative. She’s always supportive and always takes time away to help me no matter what.

My aim as a teacher is to set students up for success with a relaxed, comfortable technique so that they can produce a beautiful sound soon and become expressive musicians. I believe that people love to do what they can do well! My job is to give students the tools for excellence.

With the knowledge passed down to me from my teachers from the Moscow Conservatory and my passion for helping others learn, I tailor what I teach to the goals, the personality, and the hands of each student. Whether you want to take a traditional classical path towards a professional career, or whether you just want to learn to play for fun, I can help you achieve your goals.

About Michael

I am a professional freelance violinist and teacher living in San Francisco. I began studying violin at the age of 5 and have had the privilege of studying with renowned teachers who taught at Moscow Conservatory, Stanford, and Curtis Institute of Music. I have been taking lessons with Michael Long for the past two years at CSMA in the Bay area. Michael always speaks clearly and to the point, and I always feel heard. He knows exactly what I need to do to grow into my musicianship and encourages me with interesting exercises, technique tips and tricks, and helped me get rid of a few bad habits. Also, when I broke my wrist this year, he pivoted easily and provided extremely interesting and fun classes involving music history, musicians and performances. I would strongly recommend him as a teacher for all ages and abilities.

My son is a beginner violin player and over the past year, Michael has very patiently nurtured his interest. He was always attentive and found new ways to keep our young son engaged - especially after the classes switched from in-person to online. His support and commitment meant a lot to our son and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone seeking a violin teacher!

My son James really looks forward to his lessons with Michael every week and his playing has improved with Michael’s teaching!

Lessons are fun. My philosophy is that students should have music in their lives and benefit from the lessons they take now for years to come. Learning to play a musical instrument will help students with math skills, study habits, and develop a skill that will last for a lifetime.

After 3 months students will understand the fundamentals of their string instrument, know how to care for their instrument, warm up properly, be able to read and play introductory passages. After 6 months the student will have learned basic music theory, how to read music, and have advanced through playing multiple songs.

About Betsy

Music is the biggest passion in my life. I love being able to share that gift with my students, and look forward to their progress as much as my own. I continue to grow and develop as a musician, and love connecting with people through music. My students all learn to love and appreciate music, t

Music is awesome!! I teach all levels and all kinds of music: from Bach to Brahms, Pop songs, Rock and Roll, beginner to advanced and everywhere in between. I love teaching both classical and non classical music because all music is beautiful and can remind us of a favorite song or maybe even a fond memory. I teach how to learn music by ear and love the deeper connection that understanding all the notes of a piece can bring to a performance. I teach duets (of any level) for the purpose of practicing chamber music skills. I’ve taught students ages 5-19 for over 5 years and have a degree in Viola Performance.

"My 12 year-old daugher has been practicing viola with Jill for 7 months now. From day 1, I have been impressed by Jill's teaching style that is rigorous, but also flexible and supportive. In just a few lessons, my daughter's music playing deepened. The most important to me was to see and hear my daughter starts to breath, feel and enjoy her music. I believe that now my daughter is not playing for me but more for herself. I am extremely thankful to Jill and recommend her highly as a violin and viola instructor. I believe her instruction will have a lifelong impact on my daughter. On top of things, my daughter and I enjoy our time during her lessons very much."

She not only explains technical placement but she also explains the reasons why they are important. She is great with my 9 year old and really checks for understanding along the way."

"Helen McDermott is an absolute gift of a viola teacher and wonderful mentor. I highly recommend her!

My daughter studied viola with Helen for 8 consecutive years in Helen's private Suzuki viola studio. My daughter started with Helen when she was 6 years old and continued through her 8th grade year, which was winter/spring 2020.

Helen provides high quality and outstanding music instruction including, but not limited to: foundational to advanced music theory, technique (bow hold, etc...), and music history. She also supplements her private lessons with small-group lessons as well as regular opportunities for recitals.

Helen makes learning rich and fun! She's fabulous with creating music games for students during the lessons and to keep at-home practice time stimulating and meaningful. Helen is outstanding with giving her students structure as well as ways to learn how to stay organized.

As a Suzuki parent, I sat in on Helen's lessons for my daughter (per Suzuki philosophy) all through my daughter's elementary school years. I learned so much, myself, and was enriched by seeing my daughter blossom and grow musically. Helen has given the gift of music to my daughter not only with private lessons, but also through recommending excellent opportunities to participate in Suzuki enrichment like summer music camps and chamber music groups. Helen supported and coached my daughter to be prepared for several auditions over the years.

Because of Helen's outstanding viola instruction and mentorship, my daughter has earned and received numerous invaluable musical opportunities as well as truly meaningful compliments from other music teachers in the community.

Our family is incredibly fortunate to have Helen McDermott in our lives! She's a consummate professional musician and she is utterly passionate about sharing her talents and gifts of music."

"We have tried a few instructors for strings and they were not the right fit for us. We finally struck GOLD with Charles! Very professional, not at all condescending with his feedback (this was our problem with a couple others), taught my son things he has not learned in school in terms of correct form/placement of viola, and bow technique.
