I love teaching strings. Violin is my main instrument. I focus heavily on bow technique. I have gotten students into youth orchestras and passed college auditions. I like to use the Essential Elements and Suzuki books.
I also offer online group lessons at a highly discounted price. I suggest that all my students join. This is a great option for kids while class is out.

Michelle is great! She is very friendly and patient (especially with my poor internet connection). She takes time to show me the details on how to bow and set up my fingering properly. I highly recommend Michelle. I'm very happy I chose her as my viola teacher.

Not only do I have certification in specifically private lessons, but I have a very wide range of experience. I have played classical music, quartet music, new compositions, avant-garde pieces, and also in jazz and rock bands. I taught music professionally in public schools for 5 years, and I've been teaching privately for 7. I'm an active professional performer, as well as a composer, and the former principal violist of The Parker Symphony.

About Andrew

I love music, and I love teaching music. I have been actively involved in the music industry since 2008, performing in classical concerts, quartet performances, and even rock and indie bands. I love passing my expertise on and igniting a passion for playing in others.

Brynn was such a great teacher for my daughter! She was engaging and supportive throughout the lesson. Her knowledge about music and the viola is phenomenal! My daughter is so excited to connect with Brynn for her lessons each week.

It was our first lesson and as a parent I trust Brynn to position my daughter to be a great violin player. As she instructed my child she also made sure that I understood what she was teaching so that I can assist her with practices at home. This was very forward thinking and I appreciated her sharing her knowledge with me! My daughter has a great time!

I have been with Alyssa for almost a year now. I have progressed so far. The classes are always fun and I feel like I gain something every time we meet. Though I am a ways from being proficient, I am quite pleased with the speed in which I am progressing. I am glad to have Aylssa as my instructor.
William
My first lesson was very good. She took the time to explain and we progressed at a good pace. She explained things and showed me proper techniques to hold the violin and the bow. Overall the lesson was fun and exciting.
Rachel
I started working with Alyssa in person when she was teaching violin in Salt Lake City. Once she moved to Los Angeles I agreed to try the online lessons. I have found this method of learning to be very valuable. Alyssa has a unique way of teaching. While the traditional principles of violin playing are taught Alyssa includes mindfulness and breath in her methods. She also introduces improvisation and takes music beyond its notes on the page.

I got to take lessons with Tammy in my freshman year of college and it was a great experience! She was so nice and patient with me when I couldn't get things right and would really look at things that weren't working and try to figure out exactly what wasn't working so that we can fix it.
Tiffany
I had the pleasure of taking lessons from Tammy during my sophomore year of college when I studied violin performance at the University of Michigan. She is an *incredible* musician and I was always blown away when I heard her play. Whenever I brought challenging music to her, she simplified them for me and showed me how to best practice them. She brought me to a new level of technique and understanding of music.

I highly recommend Tammy as a teacher. She is so patient, fun, and down to earth.

"My son has been learning violin lessons from Jonathan since the summer of 2014 when he was 10. We are so fortunate to find Jonathan at takelessons.com and very happy and grateful to have him as a private tutor throughout the years. Jonathan is a brilliant musician and passionate violinist, very professional. He is really good at teaching, very patient and detailed. Whenever my son made a mistake, he would immediately point it out and show him the right way to do it and have him practice time and time again until he got it right. He would also write notes on my son’s music sheet to remind him things he needs to pay attention to during his practice at home. Jonathan also organizes recitals regularly for all his students to gather together and play in a concert like atmosphere and interact and learn from each other, which is really a wonderful experience. Jonathan can be reached easily by text message, email or phone and we have never run into any problem rescheduling a lesson or anything else. I highly recommend Jonathan for anyone who wants to learn violin or music in general."

"Family Music Teacher

We have enjoyed having Maureen as our family’s music teacher. My son started taking flute lessons with Maureen in 2009 and advanced through the levels very quickly. He plays flute in YOSAC (Youth Orchestra of Southern Alameda County). He also plays saxophone and tried out and was selected for the Alameda County Honor Band. Maureen worked with him on jazz theory and improvisation and he plays in the jazz band at school. With Maureen, he worked through all six levels of Master Theory and is ready for the college level AP Music Theory at 14 years old. He also completed the MTAC (Music Teachers’ Association of California) Composer’s Today workbooks and used http://www.noteflight.com to write his own music and participate in composition contests. My daughter has been taking piano and violin lessons with Maureen and has been doing a great job. She is playing classical music on violin in school and in YOSAC (Youth Orchestra of Southern Alameda County). On piano she is learning to play the blues and jazz, as well as learning theory and composition. Both of my children have been able to successfully participate in the LaHonda Summer Music Camp. We have had a great experience with Maureen throughout the past 5 years and have enjoyed seeing her each week."
