Basically, meeting the student's need in the exploration of Music. The 3 important elements in any Musical example are rhythm, harmony and melody. These core elements are present irregardless of the style whether it be traditional, contemporary or Jazz.Whatever genre the student chooses ,these elements are fundamentally present. My aim is not to necessarily channel them to become professional musicians ie practicing scales and technical exercises daily but to introduce them to lets say ----what is a chord, what melodic line fits nicely over that chord, what's----the meter? Is it in 2 ,3 or 4.etc.I also encourage my students to attend concerts, performed by children their age.Music is first an aural tradition.Listening and seeing others performed excites the musical journey.
