Very experienced with Digital Audio Workstations and Ableton is one of my 1st favorites. You will have tons of fun with the possibilities!
You might not always notice it, but music is all around—from the stereo in your car to the music piped in at department stores. And you also may not be aware that music has a wide array of impacts on your health: Studies show that music has a strong effect on your mood levels and emotions, and also on how you think and your general intelligence. The music you listen to can have a profound effect on your test scores and your ability to quickly process information. And if you’ve ever played an instrument, studies show that you’re already ahead of the curve. Playing an instrument is a great way to test out your creative thinking and push your brain to process information in a new way. Whether you’re listening or playing, a little music can go a long way. I am here to help you realize not only your playing potential, but guide you into not ju
st becoming a guitar player, piano player, but a musician. I am able to teach Piano, Guitar, Music recording from software/hardware to MIDI, including Sonar, Reason, and related software.
I have studied music at California State University San Bernardino, where I minored in music and learned the immense possibilities of the music field. Music is part of my everyday life, and its an honor to know I can play music but also create it. My goal is to show you as the student how to realize that dream.
*** Lesson Details *** I am a very friendly, fun and patient instructor. I believe that when you take any type of music lesson, it should be to have fun. With fun, passion, and dedication, sky is the limit. The curriculum I like to use are the most simplified forms to teach an instrument. It's about playing smarter, not harder. I do offer recording sessions to my students to track their progress, and give you a copy to keep as memorabilia.
*** Studio Equipment *** Bergman Upright Piano. Fender Acoustic/ Gibson Electric. Marshall Amps. Digital and analog Recording Station.
*** Specialties *** I have in-depth knowledge of classical works, but my emphasis is in modern rock/ Alternative/ Pop. I like teaching the songs you like to hear from The Beatles to Green Day! I love all music genres and if I have not heard of the song you want to play I will learn it so that I can teach you!

Paul is a great and fun guy with exceptional musician knowledge across multiple platforms. The lessons provided me with the basics I needed to basically perform as a DJ. There is a lot to learn & he's the guy that got me started. I highly recommend him as a teacher.
Learn the basics of running Ableton, including how to record audio, MIDI, I/O, using the effects section, triggering audio clips and loops, etc.
Having an ear for music of all styles and genres, I had an interest in playing music and instruments at a very young age. At just 5 years old, I took my first piano lesson. I studied with that piano teacher for another 10 years, working on technique, theory and classical music, including playing piano recitals as a performer. I practiced piano to become a solo classical musician. Then in middle school, I joined the symphonic band where I was exposed and learned to play instruments in the percussion section, including drums, xylophone and marimba, and other instruments. At the same time, I joined the middle school jazz band. This was my first transition both as a piano player and musician into a new genre of music and playing. Needless to say, I fell in love with the music. In 2005, I auditioned and was the only pianist accepted into the c
lassical piano department in the School of the Arts High School of San Francisco. There I went through rigorous classical training and learned vast amounts of repertoire. At the same time, I still studied and played jazz in the high school Big Band, Latin Jazz band and small jazz combo. It was during this time that I deeply focused on not only Jazz music and improvisation, but also Salsa, Latin Jazz, R&B, Funk, Pop. Basically all other forms and styles of music. I learned what it means to be in a band and how to make an ensemble sound good and to make an audience like and cheer for the music. I was lucky to have bands and musicians to play with all around San Francisco, including jazz festivals.
After graduating as the only student to study in the Piano department for 4 years in my graduating class, I was accepted with scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston. I started my first semester in 2009, and declared a Piano Performance and Jazz Composition Dual Major in 2010. At Berklee, I studied under amazing piano teachers to focus on my jazz playing and technique and repertoire. Some of the classes I took included music theory, ear training, composition and arranging, scoring and analysis, even guitar and bass labs. As well, I was the main piano player for the Berklee Salsa Ensemble for 3 straight years. I was also involved with bands and playing recitals, shows, clubs, outdoors and indoor venues throughout Boston and Massachusetts. I had the honor of being hired by Berklee to travel and play along with other selected students at the Carnaval de Barranquilla honoring Joe Arroyo. This was the most memorable musical experience for me yet, as I played along great musicians for hundreds of people in a theater, including Joe Arroyo sharing the stage with the band.
All of this experience and training is what I bring to my lessons and tutoring sessions. I teach my students how to prepare themselves for any kind of musical situation, from music theory and technique, to piano playing and repertoire, and understanding and playing all kinds of styles and genres of music. Most of all, I teach my students to be unique in their musical endeavors and to bring out their own voice through music. And the most important element of all, the happiness and joy it brings to the students and others.
*** Lesson Details *** In my piano and music lessons, you will be learning music theory, proper piano technique, ear training, sight reading, and repertoire. It will be up to the student to determine what genre and style of music they want to learn and study. It can be anything from classical music, jazz, or even Funk and R&B music and more. My students will also develop an ear, meaning that instead of only focusing on written material and music in sheet music format, they will learn to hear intervals and chords, and also play or sing back melodies.
My teaching style is very easy to get along with. I don't pressure or push students by being too strict. When learning music, being hard and strict gets the student nowhere. I approach the student with listening and understanding. It's my job to see the students advantages and keep them strong, as well as working on bringing up weaknesses and what's needed to make the student excel in both playing technique, and all other musical aspects.
When it comes to proper piano technique, I always teach my students with "Hanon, the Virtuoso Pianist in sixty excercises", and "Scales, Chords & Arpeggios" by James Bastien. After 3-6 months as my student, you will progress in your technique skills, ear training, repertoire and memorization

I have used Ableton Live for over ten years. I use it for recording, producing, and live performance. There are many Ableton controllers that I am familiar with such as the Push, Push, APC40, and Launchpad. My education comes from a self taught practice, as well as having a Music Technology B.A. from Cal State San Bernardino.

Want to learn how to play bass ? Maybe your looking to up your production chops on Ableton? Maybe your curious to learn more about music theory or musicianship? Hello My name is Loren, I have a Bachelors of Arts in Music Studies with an emphasis in Contrabass. I play and am able to perform on Contrabass, Elec. Bass, and Piano. I am well versed in a variety of music including jazz, classical, world music, and more. I enjoy discussing and teaching music and hope to share my passion with you. I enjoy incorporating technology into music via Digital Audio Workstations, Audio Interfaces, and Recording technology. I am here to help expand your knowledge and facility of music in general!
The main goal of an Ableton class is to be able to effectively use all the tools that you are given to achieve your specific goal. Each student will have a different idea of what they want to create with this software, and its really important to be able to remove the technical obstacles and get straight to the creating. I will enable each student to be able to better visualize their projects, and I will train their ears to be able to better listen to sound such that they can understand the specifics behind creative decisions. As a producer you have to take both microscopic and macroscopic views when it comes to a piece of music, understanding how both a small sound can affect the progression of a story though music, and how the story itself unfolds over time. This can all be done through practical training in Ableton Live.
I am a professional pianist/keyboardist, songwriter, and recording artist. I graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Arts in Music & Technology.
With my diverse background in both the technical and creative arts, I will be able to help build a foundation of musical knowledge that will allow students to explore areas from theory & performance to production and innovation, all with a musical focus.
I teach piano students of all different ages and experience levels. My background is mainly in Carnatic (South Indian classical) music, which I have been playing on the keyboard for 15 years now, but I have been playing and performing jazz piano for the past 8 years as well. I have been performing with my band, "In the Works" for the past 2 years in the NYC area, and I also play with another band that performs oft
en in the tristate area, so I have a lot of experience with live shows that I can also offer. I specialize in teaching students to read and play contemporary & jazz music using chord sheets, but more importantly, I can help you attain a deeper level of understanding of the music that most piques your interest, allowing you to tackle any challenging
My teaching style combines theory, piano, composition, and production to give students a more comprehensive understanding of music and how they can find their voice within it. My personal passion is contemporary music but I feeI that any musician can benefit from guided study, analysis, and practice in all different genres and styles of art. Making these connections is where I feel I have the most impact with my students, and I look forward to meeting and growing as musicians together!

I have Performed at Warped Tour, Sundance, SXSW, Bonaroo, Nashvilles-Live on the Green.

First lesson with Rob was very good. He was patient, got a feel for the student level and encouraged learning and creativity. Awesome experience.
March 18, 2019
Of all my year's of formal education, I can confidently say my time as a student under Rob was perhaps the most significant. He demonstrated a tremendous amount of patience, and genuine care into my development, and took me from a guy who was VERY rough on the drums to a proficiency level.
On top of building the physical mechanics and techniques to become a drummer, Rob put even more emphasis on how I internalized, felt, and heard the music. Each lesson focus was equally weighted with theory, practical use, real-time listening, and execution - developing all my senses and slowly building my foundation so I could take the material and know how to grow upon it outside of the lesson room.
Lessons with Rob is more than learning a cool fill, or a fun groove - even though those do happen - but it is learning how to become a musician, and I'll carry the lessons learned from him with me forever.
With over 10 years experience, I'm a Certified-Platinum Music Producer, Mixer, and Mastering Engineer with credits from every major label and over 100 million streams on Spotify. I've learned that there is no "one size fits all" approach, and instead I work closely with my students and tailor every lesson to fit their specific needs. Whether it's listening to your favorite artists and helping you learn how they made certain songs, or the more technical aspects of production and mixing, I'm happy to teach the lessons in the way that works best for you.
From the time I started making music in my bedroom, to present day when I've been the resident engineer at a major studio Manhattan, accumulated over 100 million streams on Spotify, and I have had multiple projects go Platinum and Gold- I've experienced just about every angle of the music industry. Teaching has always been one of my passions because I really believe that I can help speed along my students knowledge and careers in the music industry.
My Ableton students should expect to work on developing their technical skills in the software to the point where the software does not get in the way of their expression. This is akin to developing your technique on an acoustic instrument. We will work on creating as many finished tracks as possible to make those skills happen quickly. All of this will include furthering the student's knowledge of music theory and compositional form, whether the student is a skilled acoustic musician just starting with Ableton, or a skilled Ableton user looking to develop their compositional technique.
All of my students will work on these foundations. From there, I work with my students to create a tangible system to organize their practice and goals so that we can work on more specific areas relevant to what they want out of their musical life. This system is extremely flexible and effective. I also encourage and assist my students to use this system in other areas of their lives, such as ...
I'm a professional saxophonist, composer, and arranger. I graduated from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies. In my life, I have been fortunate enough to study with jazz legends such as NEA Jazz Master Barry Harris, Gary Smulyan, Victor Lewis, Ralph Bowen, and Bill O'Connell.
My saxophone students should expect to work on mastering the fundamentals of the instrument, as it relates to embouchure and technique. We also will cover ear training every lesson, as the combination of these two elements will build the foundation for anything else the student wishes to learn in music.
My composition students should expect to work on traditional voiceleading and harmony, as well as how to arrange music for all varieties of ensembles. This includes everything from lead sheets to a full orc
hestra. Ear training is also essential for composers to translate what is in one's mind into a piece either in traditional notation, or realized electronically. I also teach composers how to work with the essential software of the industry, namely Sibelius or Finale, Ableton Live (including Max4Live), and Logic Pro.
All of my students will work on these foundations. From there, I work with my students to create a tangible system to organize their practice and goals so that we can work on more specific areas relevant to what they want out of their musical life. This system is extremely flexible and effective. I also encourage and assist my students to use this system in other areas of their lives, such as academics or sports. The skills needed for a high level of achievement are similar no matter the subject. The benefits of music education are praised often, but a direct approach to transferring those skills makes them far more tangible.
I teach students both in my own home or out of theirs, dependent on what works for the individual. I cover all styles of music both for performance and composition.
"Lauren is a fantastic teacher, patient and thorough in her technique. I learned so much from taking lessons with her!"
"Matt does a great job of adapting his instructions to match where the students knowledge is currently. I started taking lessons from him after spending a
few years learning bits and pieces of ableton on my own. Matt quickly figured out where I was, what I can do to improve what I've learned, and helped me make steps moving forward. No matter you're experience level I can't recommend learning from Matt enough. I leave every lesson with so much more knowledge than before that I can immediately start applying to my own work and work flow. Thank you Matt! Looking forward to many more lessons."
