He may be good if you want to sing opera. I just didn't connect with him and his 'Style' of teaching. I was looking for more current music and that was where a very large disconnect was.

Right off the bat I could tell that my daughter will flourish with Dr. G. He is very encouraging while simultaneously effective at improving a weak nuance of her current skill set without making it feel like a negative critique. She is very excited to see what he can help her accomplish.

I have had four classes with Jean-Luc and am enjoying it very much. I have "homework" for the first time in decades. I am also doing a few other online studies, and find that my lessons with Jean-Luc really complement that. In particular, I am learning correct pronunciation and when it is correct to use certain phrases.

Initially I like to evaluate the student's current comprehension level (regardless of years studied) to better select the appropriate starting point. From there, if there is a specific subject matter or course work/syllabus for a class that needs to be followed, I can tailor lessons to fit those needs. Throughout lessons, I like to bring in elements such as cartoons, newspapers, movie clips, etc. to aid in understanding everyday usage & make learning practical and pertinent to the student.

**30 minute lessons are available for students interested in Conversational French practice (for Intermediate/Advanced Only). Please send me a message if you are interested & we can discuss how to arrange through TakeLessons.

** Discounts will be made available for students wishing to take more than 1 Lesson per week. Please send me a message to make this arrangement.

About Kenji Luis
I grew up speaking English, Portuguese & Japanese in a multilingual family and from a young age developed a strong affinity & penchant for languages. I attended an English-Portuguese Bilingual school through 6th grade and studied Japanese 4 years in high school, along with weekend Japanese school classes. In college I went on to major in International Relations & Diplomacy with a concentration in French studies, also honing my Spanish that I had picked up along the way (with Romance Languages, I have a very easy time of language absorption). I've gone on to work for international companies wherein my language skills have been highly sought after, translating & communicating often in all my language strengths.

I studied Japanese for a while at university, but I never really found a comfortable study style or pattern. Working through things with Kenji helped me find that style. Lessons with him seem casual and friendly, but have been immensely effective in advancing my Japanese skills.

Kenji is a nice guy and speaks very slowly and clearly. My only misgiving was with error correction. I am not sure if he could not hear me well do to the connection, but I got the feeling he was not correcting all my mistakes when I spoke. I also would have preferred a more structured class, but I probably should have told him that in the beginning of our session. Otherwise he was a nice guy and spoke Portuguese very well.

After my first lesson I already feel more confident that I will be able to communicate some in Italian while on vacation in Italy. Daniel is an excellent teacher who is very knowledgeable in many languages. He made me feel comfortable right away.
He has a plethora of experiences from living and working abroad. He brought simple techniques/strategies that helped me understand grammar and pronunciation.
I have homework, can't wait for my next lesson. Ciao

Regardless of whether I am teaching language, civilization, or literature, my main goal is to help keep my students engaged, interested, and challenged in learning. In teaching the French language I focus on developing strong conversational skills, as well as writing and reading. To supplement the class session, I use online resources, authentic documents, and regular assessment of oral and listening language skills.

About Marc
I have been teaching French at universities for 30 years and would love to share my passion for the language, literature, history, and culture to students. French is my first language, and I have spent many years living in French-speaking countries; I have lived in Vietnam, Lebanon, Morocco, and (of course) France.

Regardless of whether I am teaching language, civilization, or literature, my main goal is to help keep my students engaged, motivated and challenged in learning. I keep in mind that most students are not experienced world travelers and try to make what I am teaching accessible and engaging.

In teaching the French language I focus on developing conversational skills so the student will learn to speak with native competency. I have worked with students at all levels, from total beginners to doctoral candidates.

I am a
vailable most weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm, and I can travel to meet the student at a convenient location or teach online.

I look forward to working with you & helping you further your French language skills!

Most people I met told me that French is a beautiful language but so hard to learn! My answer is always the same "No more than any other language. If you have fun while learning it, it will come easily"

And I really believe it. That is why I offer French lessons using games, music and videos to help my students learn quickly without getting bored.

About Yaelle
Bonjour !

I was born and raised in a small town in West of France where the speciality is... a handkerchief!

I have since lived in Belgium, Norway, Israel, Romania and now Texas following my husband who is a scientist. In every country, I taught French to several students and developped great tutoring skills from it.

Beside teaching and science, my passion in life is cooking! I will be more than happy to share French recipes with you so you can feel and taste some of the French culture.
