About Dana
Welcome to my page! I believe strongly that each student, young or old, deserves respect and diligence on my part. Of course, no lesson would be complete without some corny humor and an understanding that each student is unique in their own way. My specialty is in making music accessible to everyo

We begin with exercises to develop technique and train for agility, musicality and music theory. Classical music is used but not exclusively as we explore the many different genres of music! Ear training is also offered so that the student may be able to play by ear as well as reading music.

I have a special place in my heart for beginning piano students. I treat them more like a grandchild than as a strict classical instructor would. I have eliminated the pressure to learn wherever possible. From the first day, my students learn to read basic music. The lessons I create are customized based on my student's interests, strengths and ability to learn. Each child is unique. Whether they are gifted or special needs, each student gets my full attention. I get a great deal of joy from seeing the faces of my students light up when they accomplish a piece of music.
An intermediate level student holds a special challenge for me. Many times, they come to me having developed bad habits or missing important musical information that could make them a better pianist. I see my role as filling the gaps that they are missing and taking them further from there.
My students come and they stay with me - some for many years. If this is the type of experience you are looking for, then we ...

I have been working with Troy for about 4 months now and I have been making progress at an incredible speed. He is very meticulous in his teachings in the best way and he doesn't let you get away with technical errors without correcting them. He is truly passionate about music and teaching it and will go to any length for his student as long as they are willing to do the same. He always has great insight to the pieces you learn, even at the beginner level, so you don't just learn how to play a song, but you learn where it came from and what it may have been intended for. He doesn't just teach you what keys to play and when, but he constantly encourages you to bring emotion and character to your playing as well, which can be difficult to do with beginner pieces but somehow he had me playing the simplest of songs with feelings and style behind them. He is very patient with his students and constantly encouraging and uplifting. He will not let a lesson go by without giving you positive feedback, even if you come to a lesson completely unprepared because you haven't practiced since you last saw him.
I would highly recommend Troy to anyone that is interested in learning music the right way. He is a quality music professional and will do everything in his power to give you the best education you can receive.
(Note: The only reason I rated teaching environment "Good" instead of "Excellent" is because he has cats so if you have allergies, it might not be the best fit for you.)"

Excellent experience! Skills, professionalism, communication, and reliability are second to none!"
