Beginner & intermediate violin practices include the Suzuki methods, duets, theory, and an understanding of the violin as a whole. I will encourage students to eventually learn compositions of their choosing.

About Olivia
I love to create. The way I'm most comfortable creating is through writing; whether it's a song, a short story, a poem or a script. Writing has always been the bass line in my life; the heartbeat.

Music and film are both passions of mine. I graduated from Berklee College of Music where I studied Songwriting and Music Therapy. I was pushed to my absolute limits lyrically and musically within these majors, and I am so grateful for it now that I'm on my own creative journey.

I have a great deal of experience, but I am also still learning. I think it is very important as a teacher to always be learning, especially through their students. Teaching these lessons is, of course, about progress and advancement - but also about enjoyment, confidence building and positive encouragement.

The first lesson was great. She explained some of the fiddle's background, how to hold it, and how to play it all in an interactive way. The time flew by. My daughter is very enthusiastic about the lessons & even more excited about the fiddle than before the lesson. Kathleen is awesome.

I began playing the violin 14 years ago and have been teaching it for 12 years. I start beginning violin students from the book "Essential Elements". Once the basic foundations are laid out we move on to scale, etude, and solo books.

About Karla
Karla is a self-motivated and proactive music educator with a solid experience in music performance and hands-on experience in developing and implementing music programs. Guiding, developing, and challenging students to achieve their highest levels has been a successful and passionate experience for her. Karla obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2004 from, with an emphasis on Viola from UMKC. She was a Viola performer with the Conservatory Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra, Bach Cantatas, and a string quartet. Her viola teachers have been Dr. Steven Kruse, concert virtuosos Paul Coletti and Scott Lee, and composer Robert Hagenbuch. At the Conservatory she pursued the violin and took lessons from Paul Hatton of the Kansas City Symphony.

Karla also received her Music Educators license in Instrumental Music from William Jewell Co
llege in 2005. Instrumental Conducting, Secondary Music Methods, Instrumental Techniques, and Educational Psychology were some of the courses that prepared her to become a more knowledgeable teacher. After completing her student teaching at the Liberty Public School District, she pursued her field experience and prepared for her career as an educator at numerous schools ranging from grades 4 - 12 and college students. Currently, Karla plays 4th chair viola with the Kansas City Civic Orchestra and in the past has subbed for the St. Joseph Symphony. She is also the Viola player with Crescendo Trio. They perform 30-35 weddings and corporate events every year. Karla keeps an in-home and downtown studio offering music lessons for children and adults of all ages from beginners to advanced students.

*** Lesson Details ***
The methods I use for teaching primarily depends on the students' style of learning and the level that they are at musically. For beginning students I use a lot of visual and aural techniques and for more advanced students I build on what they already know and challenge them to go further. I am also familiar with the Suzuki method and pop music styles.

*** Studio Equipment ***
- Home studio with keyboard, 1 violin, 1 viola, music stand, music cabinet, seating for parents, wi-fi
- Downtown studio with 1 viola, music stand, seating for parents, and wi-fi

*** Specialties ***
I use the Essential Elements book for beginners so they can learn to read music. I use Suzuki Books for my student's solos. I also use Wolfhart Books to teach technique and Essentials For Strings Scale Book.

Every student is different, so I tailor my lesson plans around the student's specific learning style and needs. Ultimately, my goal is for my students to love music and love playing the violin as much as I do.

I encourage students to listen to as much music as they can and if there is ever a specific song or piece they want to I am more than happy to incorporate it into the lesson!

For younger students and beginners, I use Essential Elements or Suzuki books. I believe it is important to learn to read music from a young age, so I incorporate that into lessons for beginners. Scales and etudes are also key to providing a strong foundation for young students. A similar approach is also used for adult beginners.

For intermediate students I utilize the Solos for Young Violinists books as they provide a nice transition into more extensive solo repertoire. Depending on the need of the student, I might also pick specific pieces outside of the books that I think will enhance their ...

Katherine is teaching my 5-year old daughter to play violin. My daughter is a high energy kid who is still learning letters in kindergarten so Katherine has had her work cut out for her to teach her to play and read music. However, with patience and clever ways of teaching I can see that my daughter is understanding the fundamentals of music and if anyone can teach my daughter to play violin, it's Katherine.

Highly Recommended! Confident and Talented Violin Instructor

It had been over 5 years since I picked up my violin, so I was feeling very guilty and afraid of resuming lessons after such a long break. Kat never once made me feel guilty about the break - she was so encouraging yet firm with her recommendations for getting back to the skill level where I once was.

After just two lessons, I noticed a significant improvement, and I'm so excited to continue to regain my confidence in the coming weeks. I can't recommend her enough! She's a pleasure to work with and I'm grateful to have found such a great teacher to instruct me in something I enjoy so much.

Upon graduating Emory university in 1992 I played professionally in Destin, FL as a bassist, guitarist, violinist, and vocalist. I performed as bassist and backing vocalist with "Salty Dog" for nearly a decade. I am the co-founder of the Destin, FL band "Beach Mice." Mice is also popular on the festival circuit on the Emerald Coast.

I relocated to Atlanta in November of 2013, and currently perform weddings, and at various restaurants and events in the Atlanta area.

I have taught individuals and group lessons on violin, bass, and guitar since 1997 and for several consecutive years at Playground Music in Fort Walton Beach.

I have several videos available on YouTube, and a website which is easily located through a simple Google search.

My son had been taken lessons from Nikita for a month now. I can see that the lessons have made a huge difference in his playing. He now has better sounds and postures, and his confidence with the instrument has also gone up quite a bit.

Nikita is an intelligent teacher. He doesn't emphasize on what to play, instead, he focus on how to play. He corrects wrong techniques consistently, and gives helpful drill assignments to practice at home. We are extremely happy with his teaching.

Every student is unique, so I will tailor the lessons to you and make it fun! I'm passing on to you the training I received from the very best master teachers of the violin. Stringed instruments are challenging, but I believe in enjoying making music at every level, while establishing a strong foundation in good technique. For learning fundamentals of music theory and ear training, we will play various rhythm and improvisational games. I have extensive background in European classical music, and I've also done quite a bit of improvisation, some fiddling, and electric violin and viola. Whether you want to be the next Joshua Bell or the next Lindsey Stirling, I can help you improve your playing. I will help you sing, dance and tell a story through your violin or viola.

About Gloria
Born into a musical family in 1966, I have extensive performance experience as a classical violinist and violist, and I've been composing my own music since 2000. I am very grateful to have studied with some of the finest teachers of violin, viola and chamber music, and I graduated in 1990 from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, one of the best conservatories in the world. I've played often with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony, and I was the Concertmaster of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia for 6 years.

I'd like to pass on the knowledge gained from my years of playing in orchestras, chamber groups and solo concerts. My teachers taught me the most refined techniques of tone production and continually showed me how to make the music come alive emotionally and tell a story.

I've also play
ed a lot of music by contemporary composers, in groups like Network for New Music and Orchestra 2001 in Philadelphia, as well as Left Coast Chamber Ensemble in the Bay area. Some special tours I went on were with the Philip Glass Ensemble and with Tan Dun, the composer of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

My own compositional adventures started in the the late 1990's when I started improvising with a DJ mix in a small club. Since then I have experimented a lot with pickups and electric violin. I've created surround sound collages, improvised music for modern dance, and learned digital audio editing skills. I am knowledgable about Pro Tools and Ableton Live. If you are interested in electric violin, looping or using MIDI effects, I can share what I've learned about these things.

I have two solo CDs of original music - one violin, one viola - you can find on CDbaby and bandcamp.com.

You can make music and be creative no matter what playing level you are on. I believe in having fun as you learn, and I stress learning by example and by ear. Reading music is good, too, but often that gets in the way of listening. We will build a foundation step by step and add on elements when you are ready. Also - I can help you be relaxed as you play. I have never had tendonitis or another occupational injury, thanks to good posture and technique. Body awareness is part of the process. Let's have fun- - you can do this!

NOTE: for students age 7 to 12, I require the parent to be present at the lesson and take an active interest in the student's progress. Also, the child must want to play this instrument.

Hi! I’m a seasoned professional classical musician with a Conservatory level degree and many years of violin/viola/piano teaching experience at the collegiate all the way through to pre-school level. I believe that anyone can learn an instrument and have fun doing it! Whether you’re trying to take college auditions, get into your local All-State orchestra or learn to read music for the first time, I would love to help!

About Ashley
I am a professional violist with a degree in Music performance from the Royal Academy of Music in London, England. I am also pursuing post-graduate studies in performance here in Kansas City and working as a substitute musician with the Kansas City Symphony. Although my performance focus is mainly classical, I have also performed with bands like Belle and Sebastian, singers like Amy Grant and even hip-hop artists such as Tech n9ne.

I have many years of violin/viola/and piano teaching experience and have previously been on the faculty at Drake University. I also really enjoy teaching youngsters and worked as a classroom music teacher for the local catholic schools for a few years. Currently I teach for violin for two non profit charitable organizations - the KC Harmony project aimed at students age 5-18 in underserved communities as well
as the KC String Sprouts which is a preschool preparedness focused program that enables four year olds and their parents to learn violin together.

I enjoy meeting and getting to know my students and help them to achieve their musical goals, whether that be to ace an audition or to simply have fun with their instrument. My teaching focuses on developing a good understanding of the fundamentals of the instrument as well as those of music theory (writing and reading music) and creating a structured practice routine to facilitate learning. Students should expect to see weekly progress and to have so much fun learning to play music!
