I was classically trained as a singer and can help you sing opera as well. Many of my students have worked on opera pieces before and currently.

About Vanessa
As a vocal teacher I focus on the correct method to singing that helps keep your voice beautiful and healthy.
I earned my bachelors degree in music education with an emphasis in vocals. I learned music appreciation, theory, history, choral singing and classical voice training.
I love music and cannot picture life without it. Music is an expression of life! I also love to teach music to others as I feel I'm passing on a great gift.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher I fall somewhere in between strict and laid back. For instance, if you don't practice I won't scold you, but I will remind you that you can only be as good as you work to be. If you don't want to put in the effort you will waste your time and money, as well as not receive the results that you were desiring.
Our lessons will consist of many vocal exercises, go
od posture, and breathing techniques. One rule that I have is that I don't move you on to another song until you have successfully learned all you can from the first one you try. There is no point in learning another song when you have only learned the first one at a mediocre level.
If you are serious about becoming a better singer/musician you will enjoy our lessons.
I encourage my students to strive for excellence and will do all I can to draw that out of you.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide the tools to learn theory, songs to choose from and I do have my own portable keyboard. Students would need to have a tape or digital recorder to record their lessons and a positive attitude.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical voice, and vocal training, (learning how to use your voice properly).

Vanessa deserves more than I could describe:
She is such a sweet teacher who feels easy to teach you at the right level. With great understanding, warm passion, and sufficient knowledge, she’s just made me more and more confident!
I enjoyed every lesson she gave. Time went by without knowing since I was absolutely attracted by her every instruction and demonstration! I’m probably the oldest student, over 70, a total beginner,. Yet, this is no problem to her at all!
Vanessa makes me think of the popular saying: “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires. “
Dear teacher Vanessa has certainly inspired me a great deal!

He may be good if you want to sing opera. I just didn't connect with him and his 'Style' of teaching. I was looking for more current music and that was where a very large disconnect was.

About Maria
MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:

(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits.
(2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators.
(3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures.
(4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

It is of the utmost importance that my students are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to kno
w music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.

Professional opera singer trained at some of the most prestigious opera houses in the country. I am eager to pass on my knowledge of good vocal technique, my love of singing, and of performing. Seeing my students get out and perform with confidence, poise, and the tools to succeed vocally is the best reward I could get from teaching. Let's get working toward whatever goal you may have from the lofty pursuits of auditioning for jobs to just being able to simply enjoy the sound of your own voice when you are singing at home with your family.

I am a current music teacher in the Bay Area and am happy to take on more students. The more people I can help, the better.

About D'Ana
I am a professional opera singer and current music teacher here through TakeLessons and in California. I have trained and performed in some of the most prestigious opera houses in the country. I do love performing but once I found teaching I realized how much joy I got from helping my students achieve their goals no matter how grand or how small. My honest opinion is that anyone can sing and that all should be given the opportunity to try!

As a vocal student, we will discuss what your goals are for our lessons together and what you hope to achieve in the long run. Students can expect improvements every week as you build upon the techniques and exercises I give you. I teach students to improve their breathing and tone production using the classical vocal technique and from there we will work on style and phrasing and overall performance
of your piece. One common goal is to create a repertoire of songs that the student can call upon at any time to sing with ease.

Don't hesitate to ask if you would like to see my professional bio to get a better grasp of where I have worked in the country and the world.

My passions are Disney music, Broadway both classic and new, Opera, Pop, Contemporary Music, and really anything that can get your heart racing when you sing it. So let us get started on our musical journey! Looking forward to meeting you and to helping you unlock the singer you always had inside you.

Wow - we’ve only done our first lesson, but it was amazing. Alexandra is so positive and really checked in with our daughter to make sure she was teaching her at the right level; not overwhelming, but still challenging enough to really get her hooked. She was very sensitive to, and conscious of, accommodating our daughter’s learning disability. It feels like a great match! Thank you , Alexandra, for a great first lesson. I have been helping students discover ease and joy in singing for over ten years, in multiple countries and many different styles. Each journey is different, but I am certain I can help you accomplish your goals. No two voices are alike, and we will work together to discover your particular strengths. Expect to laugh and have a lot of fun along the way!!!

Working with the physical structure of your face and body, we'll uncover ways to free you FROM yourself. Many bad vocal habits are learned through everyday life - together we can identify these to bring you closer to the optimal function of your voice. I will provide a foundation of knowledge for effective breathing and posture, as well as fill your 'toolbox' with many practical methods to alleviate tensions and encourage optimal resonance. As I am an active professional singer, I teach largely through demonstration accompanied by easily understandable technical language aimed to resonate with the student's natural sense memory

I have really enjoyed working with Alex-- He has given me some great tools and guidance for working on technique in a healthy way, and I have left every lesson excited to practice and apply what we work on. He always challenges me in a very constructive manner and makes lessons a safe place to take risks and experiment. As someone who has a degree in voice and has gone through a few teachers, I would definitely recommend him, weather you are a beginner or a more studied singer.

Alex is a brilliant man and a terrific professional singer who has incorporated and consolidated correct and admirable vocal knowledge and has an insight and perception into voices and the root cause of issues and the path to improving a voice. His understanding of the uniqueness of each voice with an underlying bel canto, vocally scientific and yet musically based methodology is outstanding. I would trust Alex with any singer and I know any voice type in any type of repertoire, musical theatre and jazz and even pop, would benefit greatly. he is a deep thinker, but an outgoing and generous individual with great patience. I admire him greatly and I know he is already an outstanding teacher, though his professional career is giving him a great balance, and a good insight into the world each singer is venturing into. A uniquely qualified person.

Not only is Alex a kind, patient, and encouraging teacher, but he also presents valuable technical information in a clear and comprehensible manner. I leave each lesson feeling vocally fresh and with new nuggets of vocal wisdom to think about during the week.

I also feel that I can apply the vocal technique Alex teaches to the many different genres of music that I sing (opera, musical theater, gospel, etc.)

Would highly recommend Alex!! He’s a gem!
