I have been taking the world by surprise since the age of 4. I began studying at Queens College at 6 years old and was a recital pianist by the age of 12. I was a consumer of music, from the Music Theory lessons on Saturdays, piano lessons on Thursdays and voice lessons on Saturday afternoons, my life was filled with music.

It is to no one's surprise that I completed my first demo at the age of 13 and was performing for Queens Colleges audiences at 14. I went on the rank high in the NYSSMA series in both piano and voice. I also went on to study music in college and began touring with gospel troupes nationally. Since then I has done many workshops, Master Classes, tour dates, theatre shows etc. Too many to date. I am a sought after teacher for voice, piano and broadway singing. I train public speakers, actors and teachers as well.

I believe that all musicians have the abilities to fulfill their ultimate potential; by assessing students learning styles, accessing community resources and just having fun learning musical concepts.
Curriculum examples that I would utilize for piano would be Adventures in Piano and Succeeding at the Piano. For the vocal students I utilize Exceptional Musicianship, created by Hal Leonard for accurate vocal techniques.
Within 3 months the students will have opportunities to demonstrate their musical abilities. I will provide opportunities for students to demonstrate musical expertise through recitals and other events.

I have been teaching this subject for over 16 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. Opera voice is for experienced singers. The ability to reading music is mandatory as is access to a piano or keyboard for practicing. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• the studio space is also inhabited by two lovely cats. Do consider this when signing up for lessons.

So far, I look forward to each lesson! Troy is very kind, yet very helpful and has helped me target on my personal goals with opera while also learning more each time! I highly recommend him. It doesn't matter if you have no experience in voice or only experience in voice ( as my experience is theatre and musical theatre), he is patient in helping you achieve the goals set. I cannot wait to continue lessons with him!

w music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. Olga is very passionate, patient and persistent voice teacher who strives to bring the best in her students. My daughters 10 and 12 started taking lessons with Olga an year ago. We saw phenomenal difference in both of their singing abilities in just few classes. Moreover my 10 year old daughter passed with flying colors ‘The certificate of merit -level 3’ exam and got selected to sing at the MTAC convention. Thank you Olga for your persistence and hats off to your patience. If there is tiny bit of constructive feedback it would be to seek help on organization skills, but being a mom myself I totally can discount that for your caliber of music.

I have been literally to 4 youtube teachers and though I have nothing bad to say about any of them, i know that I need a long term teacher that I can see myself growing with as a singer. Our personalities just meshed. She knows how to make one feel comfortable. She is very encouraging to students with zero self confidence like me. I think I have found the teacher I’ve been looking for in Elena! i’m excited to see what she can do to transform my voice. Craig Juricka, baritone, is an emerging vocal pedagogue and performer. Craig's approach to singing is routed in his cross-trained background. Comfortable in teaching all genres, Craig’s students range in age, beginners to pre-professionals. Using a pedagogy based on the philosophy and methods of the bel canto tradition, Mr. Juricka’s teaching is a mix of various methods such as the Alexander and Fitzmaurice techniques.

Mr. Juricka’s performance career has brought him to the opera and musical theatre stages around the nation. Before I am a teacher, I am first and foremost, a performer. I believe this puts me at an advantage as a music teacher because I not only have formal training to educate, but I also have the experience of performing. This is why I turn to performance time and time again. Beatrice does an amazing job training her students to sing with not only passion, but also technique. Personally, her coaching has helped me a great deal, and I can see a huge improvement in my singing from when we first started!

My experience of Beatrice has been awesome, as has my son's (who has been taking piano with her for almost one year). Beatrice is dedicated to each of her students, as is evidenced by her continued support and encouragement in all their accomplishments, including timing and theory. Piano is a difficult instrument to teach, especially to children. The recitals her students participate in are a testament to her abilities to be one of the best teachers out there. We will continue with Beatrice!

​ADIA AZIZA GRIFFITH (SOPRANO) is a native to the San Francisco Bay Area. She attended Notre Dame de Namur University, from which she graduated with a Bachelors of Music. Adia has performed in multiple productions; Oaklahoma, Genevieve, Understudy of Guilletta in The Tales of Hoffman, Mrs. Page in Merry Wives of Windsor, Mrs. Nordstrom in A little Night Music, The Mother in Amahl & The Night Visitors, and played the role Musetta in La Boheme. Adia has also performed as soloist with "Viva La Musica", international touring choir under the direction of Shulamit Hoffman and with the Winchester Orchestra singing excerpts from Henry Mollicone's Gabriel's Daughter. Adia remains active in her community and has sung for San Francisco's "Memorial for the Homeless," the City of Oakland's tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King and various youth, women em
powerment workshops and church conferences throughout the Bay Area. Taking it from the church house to the opera house; from gospel to opera are just two genres she can't love more. This coming school year I will be a graduate student, teaching my own students at the undergraduate level at WSU. I’m looking to expand my studio even further, offering fun and encouraging voice lessons to all ages.

My name is Rachel Shukan and I will be a graduate student at Wichita State University this coming school year. I will be working towards getting a masters degree in opera performance, with the hope that one day I can be a professional opera singer.
