I have taught music for 10 years and believe students should get to play what they want to play! Students are asked to come up with a list of songs and/or artists they would love to play. Through teaching chords, note reading and theory, the song possibilities are endless! I also can help the aspiring singer/mandolin player to be able to both play and sing simultaneously.

About Rachel

Hello there! I'm Rachel C., a bass player and singer on the stage who also enjoys playing and teaching all stringed instruments. I have a degree from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) in Music Education. I've taught lessons for over 10 years and truly love working with eager students of all age

I have taught guitar since 2012 and have been playing since 2000. I am happy to take students at the beginner and intermediate levels. I believe strongly in integrating music theory and ultimately moving students toward musical self-suffiency, rather than focusing exclusively on learning particular pieces.

About Ben

Hi, there! My name is Ben and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2012 and have taught students of all ages from 3 to adult. I have experience not just with teaching but also with writing, recording, and performing music in successful bands and on multiple instruments

Ben has been instructing my 2 kids (now aged 11 and 9) in-home for at least 5 years. We started off with piano for the first few years but then switched to a combination of piano and acoustic guitar (half a session dedicated to each instrument).

He is patient, kind, and highly knowledgeable. I clearly see the upward trajectory in my kids' musical capabilities. One of my kids can be difficult to deal with, especially when he is tired, but Ben would mold his approach to the lesson on the spot to keep my kid engaged (e.g., instead of continuing the lesson on the actual piano, he'd switch to a fun music-oriented game).

I hadn't played a musical instrument since elementary school when I started Ukulele lessons with Ben. Ben started from the beginning, answered all my questions along the way, and built upon that information in each lesson. It wasn't in a didactic way, but in a way that was really customized to fit my Ukulele lesson goals. Ben's teaching style is very flexible also. I had some Ukulele lesson books I had been gifted and we worked from those. I didn't feel that I had to buy a bunch of additional equipment, books, etc.

I recommend Ben as a music teacher. He is understanding, encouraging, and inspirational. I am looking forward to continuing lessons with Ben and JC Instrumental.

Ben has been working with our daughter since January 2019, when she turned 6 1/2. He arrives at our home on time each week and he works with her at an age appropriate level. We appreciate that he recognizes the effort she puts into the weeks when she practices often and he gently makes her aware when she hasn't practiced enough. He always speaks with her in a kind way and with us in a collaborative manner. We all want her to enjoy her piano experience, and we are thankful to have found Ben just a few blocks away from our home.

I teach nylon string classical guitar. I always start lessons with new students by getting to know what music they love to play and listen to, and I will develop my lessons accordingly. People often mistake “classical guitar” for any fingerstyle acoustic guitar. However, if your interest is indeed classical music, I will teach music of the medieval, renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic, and contemporary periods, of various composers from around the world, such as John Dowland, J.S. Bach, Fernando Sor, Francisco Tárrega, or Heitor Villa-Lobos.

If you have experience with classical guitar, I will ask you to demonstrate your skill level by playing a piece you know. If you are picking up guitar for the first time, the first lessons will be devoted to learning correct posture and technique, and you will begin playing your first scales, exercises, and open chords. After a few lessons, you will begin to learn to play single-line pieces. Classical guitar players also play with their ...

I offer lessons in both classical and fingerstyle guitar (especially for open tunings like DADGAD, for which I have published two books with Mel Bay). I tailor my lessons to the individual, but I like to concentrate on both technique and overall musical expression. When called for, I offer assistance in basic theory, including rhythm, chord structure, and melodic playing--and can teach both standard notation and tablature. One of my classical guitar students has commented, Julie "has patiently brought me through increasingly more difficult technique by choosing a wide variety of challenging but enjoyable pieces to practice. I am gradually working my way up the fret towards the 5th position. She has helped me with theory, including rhythm, the major and minor scales and chord building. Her empathy is a particular blessing for me because of my poor eyesight and the arthritis in my wrists, hands and fingers.”

About Julie

Note: If you do not find the availability you are looking for on my calendar, I may still be able to accommodate you; don't hesitate to suggest a time that works better for you. I am a professional musician, specializing in traditional American and Irish music and song; I can, however, also tea

We had some trouble with the audio on her end, but once we got going, it went well. I spoke and understood a lot of French in my first hour! Julie is going to help me with singing in French. I'm so excited.

"Initially, I received the quintessential guitar lessons, complete with classical guitar exercises. I then developed an affinity for classical guitar, but I couldn’t journey further into the style because my training was limited. I can happily say that I have not only been able to overcome my plateau but also found the teacher who can shape me into the guitarist I aspire to be. I’m being taught via video chat but the lessons are nothing short of insightful. Your dedication as a student with Jaxon will take you far. Take the first lesson and you’ll see!"

"My experience with Raymond has been wonderful! I have been studying classical guitar with him for a few years and have steadily improved even though I have less time and energy to practice than I would like. Raymond teaches the process of learning music, and as I have opened up to this process, I have seen great results, not only in music, but in other aspects of my life and learning. Raymond's instincts about how to help me learn are an example of the way he goes the extra mile to tailor each student's instruction to their needs. Hearing him play is also incredibly inspiring! Along with his wonderful personality and sense of humor, these qualities keep me excited to play the guitar, and always brighten my day! I highly recommend Raymond as a teacher to anyone who loves music!"
