Private Drum Teacher

I am a Percussionist of the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance. I have studied under Ray DeMarchi (BVNW), Jenny Wagner (FCBB), Derek Frank ((Pro)ject C4) and currently Dr. Nick Petrella (Head of Sabian Music Education and Adjunct Professor of UMKC.) This is currently my 5th year playing with the Fountain City Youth Brass Academy.
My studio is a learning place for the beginning percussionist to enhance their skills in drum set, concert and rudimental (marching) snare drum, 2 mallet and 4 mallet marimba playing, and world percussion (hopefully timpani and more soon!)

In general, I work with my students on technique, their ability to play grooves, drum theory, sight reading, developing their sound/style on the kit, and establishing a deeper connection with the drums and music through various exercises and discussions. How I go about teaching these things is relative to where the student is at in their ability to play and understand music.

About Bryce

Hi I’m Bryce Collins and I’m looking forward to working with you as your private drum lesson instructor. I’ve been playing music for a total of 13 years and 8 of those years the drums have been my primary instrument. While in high school, I played for the school jazz band and in the pit orchestra f

Marc is extremely patient and passionate about his teaching. Not only does he emphasize the basic techniques for a beginner like me to master, but also make it fun for me. He also tries to motivate me with music theory and history which definitely help me understand the music better and inspire me to master the basics. Marc has an amazingly amount of knowledge in everything else as well, such as physics etc. that shows up in his teaching from time to time, which makes the learning experience much richer!

Marc is an incredibly friendly drum coach who also knows when to push his students to their limits. He has the rare ability to inspire his students so that they perform to the best of their abilities. If you don't sign up with Marc for your next drum lesson, I would suggest re-evaluating your decisions.

Marc is a great teacher. Classes are always very friendly and productive. In my case, each class begins with a review of progress/practice, and ends with a meaningful and personalized homework. He is also very flexible, sometimes I had to move my classes around and he's always super responsive and understanding. I knew nothing about drums, and I am happy I decided to begin my journey to learn how to play them, with Marc as a mentor!

Matt taught me for a 3 month period and helped me drastically with learning how to improvise guitar solos. I can't thank Matt enough for his help in helping me with a rather unorthodox time to start getting lessons. Each week he told me to bring 3 songs with a guitar solo I would like to learn in different genres and each week we broke down the solos for me to practice and gather their techniques. Thank you so much Matt!

"Joey truly understands music on a level that is so impressive. He taught me so much about drumming and how it works. Not only is he a great drummer, but he is a great person with a fantastic work ethic and teaching methods. He’s truly the best in the biz! Thanks Joey! I now know how to drum and I love it."

"Mike Enriquez has been our son’s drum teacher over the past few years. In addition to helping introduce our grade school kid to the sweet, sweet sounds of Led Zeppelin, The White Stripes and AC/DC, Mike has introduced my son to the idea of putting in time and effort to achieving goals.

We love the respect and sometimes superhuman patience Mike shows our son. He seems committed to the process of learning rather than the result. It’s an important distinction and we feel extremely fortunate to have found Mike.

Mike sets realistic expectations tailored to our kid, but the main focus is the love of the instrument rather than some cookie-cutter formula. If Duncan is having an off day, Mike takes it from where he is with no badgering or haranguing.

I’d recommend him to anyone looking to learn to play drums. Even if you’re an adult. He’s a great teacher.”

"Mark Review

I have had many different types of music teachers through out my life and Mark is by far the best. He is very serious about helping his students do what they want to do. I had specific goals I wanted to accomplish. Mark took my goals seriously and did what he could to help me understand the techniques to be a good drummer. He broke things down in to little steps that helped me to practice on my own and figure specific drum patterns out, He gave me the tools to improve myself as a musician, Mark did not have to but he chose to put a lot of his own time in to teaching me what I wanted to learn He obviously cares about his students and takes them seriously. I highly recommend him to any future students"

"Hunter loves his teacher, we are very happy with him. He is good at teaching the fundamentals of music theory, like notation and scales but also keeps it relevant and fun. He asks Hunter what type of music he's into so that it isn't a chore to practice- it is pretty cool that a 10 year old is playing The White Stripes!"

"I can’t say a five yet because it was just the first lesson. But, if it’s going to go as I believe it will be five star rated. Khalil was very patient with my 6 year old and engaging. That coupled with a comfortable environment, I believe we made a great choice with Khalil. The fact that my son expressed that he had fun after the session is telling."
