I have been professionally singing and taking voice lessons since the age of 9! I went through various styles in my love and performance of music, starting with the Beatles, Aretha Franklin and all of Motown, Jazz (Ella Fitzgerald), R&B, and Classical/Opera (starting when I was in high school and attending Interlochen Arts Camp)...

Having received a Bachelor's of Music in Voice (Music Theatre Performance) from NYU, I stayed in NYC after graduation performing in musical theatre and theatre.

In 2009, I decided to apply to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, with the intent to broaden my range of skill and opportunity as a performer, but also with the intention to teach, with the higher degree strengthening this possibility. I began to teach voice lessons to fellow students while at LAMDA. When I returned to NYC, I began to
build my own voice studio in of post-graduate students and adults looking to further develop their vocal practice or begin a vocal practice. I found that in my vocal lessons, I was using physical exercises as for the actor, to incorporate in my private teaching method. I believe in doing, not only watching and observing. This, in conjunction with movement and full-body execution, opens the student vocally and emotionally. I chose to go to LAMDA because the classical training and approach to theatre training in England is extremely physical. They work from the outside in, and I find that the language of the body is universal to students of any intellectual capacity, and I strive to bring this into my approach in any type of teaching format!

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach voice lessons to adults and young students who are beginning their vocal training practice, as well as those who are accomplished singers and performers and want to take their singing and performance to the next level! I use my skills as an accomplished vocalist and teacher to empower my students to find their own voice and learn to express a story through song. I enable my students to hone their craft and find their own style of expression through the exploration of music in a multitude of genres and cultures.

In the past years we've done excerpts from The Polar Express, The Wizard of Oz, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and George and the Marvelous Medicine.
This summer of 2014, we're doing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, where we are discussing staging, blocking, creating costumes and props.
We are constantly play games to reinforce the techniques presented each week and the students always have fun. They walk away confident and wanting to learn more.
Spend time on costuming and set design, by creating with the materials we find at Goodwill, thrift stores and other retail businesses. We look over the characters descriptions and utilize our creative to flow with costuming and scenery.

I believe that all musicians have the abilities to fulfill their ultimate potential; by assessing students learning styles, accessing community resources and just having fun learning musical concepts.
Curriculum examples that I would utilize for piano would be Adventures in Piano and Succeeding at the Piano. For the vocal students I utilize Exceptional Musicianship, created by Hal Leonard for accurate vocal techniques.
Within 3 months the students will have opportunities to demonstrate their musical abilities. I will provide opportunities for students to demonstrate musical expertise through recitals and other events.

"There are two basic levels that every singer must address. The first one is addressing the condition of the body and voice and the second one is addressing the functioning of the voice and body."

I - Silent Foundation

The silent foundation refers to the condition of your instrument as it is silent. If we are looking at the body as an instrument that sings, we first have to make sure that our instrument is in good condition. How healthy is your instrument? Is it well rested, well hydrated and loose? Or is it tired, dehydrated and tense? As you could guess, the condition of your instrument will have a significant impact on the quality of the sounds you make. So the first thing to be addressed is how your instrument is before it starts making sound.

II - Conditioning of Singing Behaviors

This is when we get busy. Once we have a well rested, healthy, hydrated and relaxed instrument we can start working it out. The goal is to condition our singing behaviors to be reflexive, reliable and strong. The way to do this is through a series of vocal exercises that will condition your voice to respond to the desires of your heart. Whatever it is that you want to express will be possible once your instrument is conditioned to the point where there is no gap between what you want to express and your ability to do so. Learning to sing is all about learning how to express yourself without barriers. You should be able to develop enough range, power, control and skill so that you can express your heart without feeling like you'™re incapable of achieving what you pursue. To achieve these abilities training is often necessary.

Having spent a lifetime on the stage in many roles, many capacities, I have accumulated a vast amount of knowledge pertaining to all facets of performing; be it theater, television, film. While not subscribing to one particular "method", I stress "reacting, not acting", and believability of performance. All ages and experience levels have benefited from my approach. Whether a student is an aspiring actor, or a working actor sharpening their skills or prepping for an audition, I provide a solid foundation and practical, applicable knowledge and guidance.

About Glenn
I have been active in the entertainment industry since the age of 12, when I gave my first professional performance. Prior to that I was already being introduced to music with years of guitar, and then vocal instruction. I do not remember a time of my life when I was not singing somewhere; in the house, in the yard, in the classroom. That is perhaps why I identify so well with the young people who gather so much enjoyment from "just singing" at every opportunity. I studied professionally for over 10 years with renown soprano and voice teacher Sylvia Jensen, who was instrumental in the enhancement of my vocal knowledge and technique. She is now the Director of Education for the Miss Ohio pageants of the Miss America competitions, elevating many young ladies to the national spotlight. At age 14, I auditioned for, and was added to cast of a
network television variety program, "The Gene Carroll Show", that was a television institution for over 30 years in the Midwest. I was a featured performer on that program for over 7 years, all the while perfecting the art of "playing to a camera." This experience was invaluable, and the knowledge I gathered is now included in my curriculum. I also began performing a solo act in the nightclub circuit at the age of 15, performing up and down the "north coast" from Cleveland, OH, (my home), to Erie. PA. At a very young age, I learned the difficult art of choosing musical material and pacing a show; also adapting to performing under a myriad of conditions with a vast array of musical accompaniment. After graduating college with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, I assembled my own band, and took to the road. That experience eventually brought the act to Las Vegas in 1982. Over the years my show has been a staple in major casino cabarets in Las Vegas, and all over Nevada. Since my first engagement at The Landmark Hotel in the early 1980's, I have literally been up and down the famed Las Vegas Strip many times over. The Desert Inn, The Dunes, The Stardust, The Maxim, The Tropicana, New York New York, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Bally's, The Flamingo, The Imperial Palace, The Four Queens, The Golden Nugget, The Fremont, The Venetian, The Palazzo, and a three year engagement at The Riviera. My show is truly comprised of musical variety; classics, show tunes, jazz, rock, blues, r&b, country. Even a presentation of "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, that I perform in full costume. It is this ability to successfully deliver an extensive repertoire that I am enthusiastic about passing along to the next generation of entertainers.

I have been truly blessed in my career to have experienced so many highlights; too many to document. From winning an understudy roll in the Broadway Musical "Platinum" starring Hollywood actress Alexis Smith, to performing our National Anthem at events ranging from Major League Baseball to ESPN Boxing to receptions for major dignitaries, to recording 7 albums and a full-length video, to being asked to perform for Mr. Frank Sinatra at the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Golf Tournament, I have lived a full life on stage, learning and absorbing every bit of knowledge gathered along the way.
Now it is my desire to escalate my status as an educator to a more "one on one" experience; availing myself the opportunity to pass along that wealth of knowledge to individual students who aspire to enjoy the entertainment profession as I have, providing them with the skills needed to successfully compete. Or, should it be their choice not to pursue entertainment as a vocation, to gain a working understanding of all facets of their instrument so as to gain a better appreciation of music. Whatever the goal of the student, I feel that I am equipped to provide them with the tools needed to achieve that goal.

*** Lesson Details ***
Content of Sessions

Generally, the first 10-15 minutes of each lesson will be focused on vocal warm up and exercise. (For guitar students, we will review the previous
week's assignment). For Vocal Students, it is understood that the voice mechanism is made up of muscles, and as an athlete prepares for a sporting event, a singer must prepare to vocalize. It is at this time in our lesson when the student will develop good habits of voice maintenance, which will serve them well throughout their careers. The proper care and preservation of the vocal unit cannot be stressed enough, especially for pubescent and pre-pubescent students. Vocal chords in a developmental stage are most susceptible to damage, and because they are particularly sensitive, they must be handled with care. Our warm up regimen is designed to strengthen as well as preserve the singing voice.

I am not an advocate of getting too involved and "bogged down" in the technical aspects of singing, especially with the young students, and
especially early in our program. This is not to say that breath control, tonality, pitch, etc. are not vital to good singing, because these workings are ESSENTIAL, and their application will certainly be incorporated into our studies. Some instructors, on occasion, have a tendency to lose sight of the fact that much to do with singing happens "naturally", and too much focus on the "technical" can actually be inhibiting. This can alter a beautiful, natural tone into one that is unnatural and contrived.

I adhere to the philosophy that above all else, SINGERS WANT TO SING SONGS, and musicians-in-training want to play music. That is our focus, and all of our training is conceived with that objective in mind. All the technical knowledge and coaching serves no purpose without practical application. It is my belief that the most significant progress occurs when a vocalist is singing a song.

Nearly every element of instruction can be utilized in the performance of one song. This is why the majority of our session time will be spent "in song". For the very young student, we will concentrate our efforts with the students choices of favorite and familiar songs. The older students will undoubtedly have favorite songs, styles and artists. Special attention will be paid to the genre most enjoyed by the student, but diversity will be emphasized as well, and a variety of genres will be unpacked and explored. I believe that whatever a student's musical goals and aspirations, it is in their best interest to gain knowledge and insight in all facets of music, singing, and performance.

The most vital pre-requisite for any student is their enthusiasm. My ambition will be to harness that enthusiasm and channel it productively through stimulating instruction. Our sessions will be informative and educational, but always predicated upon "having fun with music".

I am proud to feature a curriculum that emphasizes the entertainment aspect of singing as well as the technical; created to benefit all ages and experience levels, from beginner to seasoned professional. After just weeks of my "Triple Threat Training" a student will begin to see astounding results: vocally, musically, and in the art of performance. I am excited to share my knowledge with you. Let's get started!

My studio is equipped with a full vocal sound system with microphones that I utilize to teach the valuable art of mic technique. Young students enjoy using the mics and hearing themselves sing and perform. Since our lessons are predicated on enjoying the art of singing, this opportunity has proven invaluable. For the advanced performer, studying all aspects of amplification and what a singer should know about their stage sound is a part of our educational curriculum. My studio is furnished with the equipment that is essential to mastering that knowledge.
Since the practical aspect of my course is based on singing songs, I provide all the latest technology required to allow my students the opportunity to sing the songs of their choosing, with and without the lead vocal tracks. I feel that when students are singing their favorite songs, it offers me the greatest teaching opportunities. I make certain the every musical genre can be represented, and feel I have the knowledge and ability to guide the student is whatever their musical tastes. My studio is also equipped with piano (for vocal exercises), and guitars, which gives me opportunity to accompany my students when the musical moment is appropriate. Glenn is a fantastic instructor. I was a beginner to acting, but I've really wanted to learn more about the craft for a long time. Glenn broke down the fundamentals of reading, character development, and script analysis to help make a more believable performance. Now we're getting into blocking and developing the physical aspects of a character. I'm learning a great deal and Glenn's patience and encouragement make him the ideal instructor to learn and grow. Highly recommend!

I have been a professional performance coach for the last 15 years. I have trained students ages 3-16 to find their true vocal, acting and musical potential. I trained as an educator of theater with Kids On Stage in Los Angeles after receiving my BA in Musical Theater. With the Atlanta School of the Performing Arts, I mentored children ages 3-16 in their performances at Walt Disney World, Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Bahamas on Royal Caribbean. Acting is such a broad term! What are your goals? Do you want to be in films? Do you want to do Shakespeare? Do you want to be in a sit com? Depending upon what your interests are and where you want to go, we will build a plan together. My philosophy on acting techniques is that they are tools to help you, not tests you pass if you're a good actor and fail if you're a bad one. Different techniques work for different people and it is our job to find out what inspires you.

I've worked as a professional actor for many years, performed on Broadway, have my MFA in Performing Arts, and my BA in Arts and Education. I was an assistant director to Tony-winner Sharon Ott and have written and produced my own work. I have experience in both stage and camera acting, which have specific technical differences, but are both a lot of fun once you get used to the medium. I have worked professionally as a singer and actor for over twelve years, having performed on Broadway in Lincoln Center's Tony-winning Revival of "South Pacific" and toured the country with Rob McClure and Anika Larson in the First National Tour of "Avenue Q." I have been in the theatre community for over five years and have participated on over 50+ shows in my time in the theatre! I currently work with the Carroll Arts Center (Westminster, MD) and Spotlight Musical Theatre (Mt. Airy, MD) as their assistant director. I am also a Theatre Arts major at McDaniel College and have taken with professional theatre artists.

I am a current student at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD and am majoring in Theatre Arts with a minor in American Sign Language. I first joined the theatre community when I was in 7th grade (7 years ago) and have participated in over 50 shows as a director, actor or a technician.
I work with Spotlight Musical Theatre (Mt. Airy, MD) as their Assistant Director. There I am responsible for helping our actors find their character and how they can play their character. I am also responsible for blocking/choreographing scenes along with all technical aspects of the show. In addition to working with SMT, I work with the Carroll Arts Center as part of my work study. There I help with their children's theatre company and will assist in teaching acting lessons this winter (February, 2018). Being a Theatre major, I do a lot of work in the the
atre and take a lot of theatre classes. I have take history classes, movement and acting classes within the theatre department, thus broadening my horizons.

About Becca
I grew up in Idaho, but these days I'm thrilled to have an extensive stage career as an actor in primarily Shakespeare and new work, working off-Broadway and in major regional theatres like the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. I'm a proud member of Actor's Equity, and a represented client of a top NYC agent-- both achievements I received right out of college after booking a major regional show.

Like many of my students, I grew up in a small town (mine was in Idaho) before the acting bug bit. I learned to love auditioning early, earning acceptance into Interlochen Arts Academy, the top high school performing arts boarding school in the country at age 15. After thriving there, I was accepted into a handful of top college theatre programs, ultimately choosing to study at Fordham University in New York City, where I graduated summa cum laude. S
ince then, I haven't stopped auditioning!

Becca is the bomb! I've done a couple of Shakespeare plays, but she taught me a lot about the text and the history of the play that I didn't know. She helped me create a subtext to the whole monologue, so I always had actions to take even without a scene partner there. I want to do a Falstaff monologue soon, and I definitely want her to help me with that, too.

Becca was great! Not only did she help with my pieces, she also spotted and corrected tension I carried in my jaw haha! After working with her, I felt more centered, grounded, and ready for my audition. Will definitely go to her again for the next round!
