I have a Bachelors of Music from Lindenwood University. I have been a piano accompanist for 7 years. I taught 5th grade Orchestra Club in the Fort Zumwalt School District and was a substitute teacher for Orchestra classes for 3 years. I have been teaching private lessons for 10 years.

I decided to take up cello at age 57 as a new instrument. Melissa did a great job teaching proper technique and method and was really aware of my personal goals for what I wanted to achieve. She has a great gentle and encouraging demeanor. I would highly recommend Melissa.

Melissa was very patient and such a great teacher on my first lesson with her. It went by so fast and I learned so much!

Welcome to my piano studio! I am a Lawrence native, and my piano studio is in my home. I have bounced between Lenexa and Lawrence a few times in my adult life, and I moved back to Lawrence 3 years ago, this time to stay. I began classical piano studies at 8 years old, in the private studio o

We signed up with Marci for beginner lessons with my 6 year old daughter and couldn't be happier! She is fantastic with children! She is very patient and has many creative ways to motivate, engage and work with young children on their level. One of the many things I love most about working with Marci is that she established a relationship with my daughter which helped tremendously in bringing her "out of her shell". Marci has provided age and level appropriate materials that my daughter loves to play from! Marci, thank you for being such a wonderful teacher!

My 6 year old son and 8 year old daughter love going to piano every week! I am very impressed with the way she teaches and is so patient!

This is my third review of Marci's teaching. My son, Arthur, participates in weekly piano lessons, and is still enjoying them!

Arthur has been practicing hard for his next recital, and I'm really looking forward to hearing him play :)

Keep up the good work!

The main thing that I like to remind students of, when they take lessons with me, is that music is FUN! A lot of hard work goes into it, but the end result is always rewarding! I am a pretty laid back teacher, yet I still work to inspire my students to try their hardest and to be the best that they can be at what they do. It is very important to me that my students get their musical wants AND needs fulfilled.

In my lessons we will work on a variety of topics, including:

-Gaining a feel and command for your own instrument.

-Finding your SOUND: Helping you to produce the right tones on your instrument.

-EXERCISES: Scales, Etudes, etc. to strengthen the muscles being utilized while playing, and also to build up muscle memory and accuracy.

-Music Theory and Ear-Training

-Building your repertoire, which is necessary for performance.

-Arranging and Communication with your accompanying musicians.

-Exercising variation and creativity through improvisation.

-How to ...

About Makala

I have loved music as long as I can remember. I know its cliché to say so, but it's true! :) For me, having parents of different ethnicity and siblings that were much older than me, I was heavily impacted by the wide variety of music to which my family members listened. The force of this crayon

Music Lessons should be fun!
Finding the right Piano or Voice Instructor will shape the way a student feels about music. When we make music we share a vulnerable and very unique part of ourselves. As a teacher, I strive to encourage, inspire and create an atmosphere for learning that is uniquely different for each of my students. My teaching style focuses on important skills but also emphasizes self-exploration and perhaps discovering a passion for something new. Take a look at the lessons I provide and choose the right one for you.

"I hadn't played since my childhood, always wanting to start up again but never finding a convenient time. Well online access has made it very convenient and provided a great teacher! Can't say enough good things about Andrew. He keeps classes fun (with sing-alongs, song writing, and crazy cup rhythm games) and challenging. and aways tries to include current music as well as the oldies, He is eager to embrace new technology that improves the online lesson experience and is patient when the usual tech glitches occur. The online access makes it all possible - I encourage anyone who is thinking about starting up again or just wanting a few refresher classes to give Andrew a try!"

"Whether the yearning of a person to play the piano be as great as a grand passion or as small as a mild interest sparked from within, Howard Richman’s acumen in his piano teaching is comprehensive, ever informative, and the best of all – he makes it forever fascinating to learn.
What is singular in Howard’s approach to teaching the piano is that he incorporates his understanding of life itself into every aspect in how to play the instrument. By this it is remarkable how Howard applies his understanding of a person’s physiology to the most effective extent in order to achieve maximum technique, while always retaining and building on the nature of the player’s individual character/personality. Howard employs logic, common sense, very clear exercises in technique that even include the nature of gravity as in the physical use of the hands, wrists, fingers when playing the piano. Howard makes the learning of any aspect of playing the piano a wondrous journey of discovery and accomplishment. I cannot recommend him more."

"If you're considering taking music lessons, now is the time, and Josh is your guy! I've taken music lessons with a number of instructors in the past, and they've each had their own unique approach to both music and teaching. Working with Josh was the first time that I felt like my music education was a collaborative partnership. Josh was open to meshing my prior musical experience with his expertise and teaching style, and allowed me to choose the direction and pace of my progress while providing the structure and support I need as an adult learner. Whether it's online or in-person, I can't recommend studying with Josh highly enough!"
