Focusing on diverse techniques, including types of characters, staging, blocking of scenes, costuming, creating characters, improv and games for each concept.
In the past years we've done excerpts from The Polar Express, The Wizard of Oz, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and George and the Marvelous Medicine.
This summer of 2014, we're doing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, where we are discussing staging, blocking, creating costumes and props.
We are constantly play games to reinforce the techniques presented each week and the students always have fun. They walk away confident and wanting to learn more.
Spend time on costuming and set design, by creating with the materials we find at Goodwill, thrift stores and other retail businesses. We look over the characters descriptions and utilize our creative to flow with costuming and scenery.

We have had a great experience with Andrew teaching our daughter piano. He works great with kids and has a wide range of teachable skills. He organizes fun events for his students that showcase their hard work. I am really pleased with our decision to enroll our daughter in his program, she has a lot of fun and has learned a lot in a short amount of time.

I can't choose a subject because Andrew teaches so many different things in his piano lessons that I would be doing him a disservice if I chose just one.

As a former piano lessons taker myself, I must admit that I had some lofty expectations for my daughter's piano lessons. On the first day of lessons for her, I knew that we were in great hands. Andrew has exceeded my expectations with every turn. And a fun and lighthearted way, and through games, activities, and fingers on the piano , Andrew helps the young learner learn the most important thing about music: it's fun! Theory is fun, composition is fun, ear training is fun, performance is fun. As a musician myself, I'd almost forgot. Andrew has helped me to remember, and is instilling these values in my daughter.

Thank you Andrew for being so awesome.

I help speakers develop powerful, authentic voices by combining knowledge of their instrument, vocal health practices and helping them develop the technique to easily sustain their sound. Together, we'll create your personalized 'toolkit' of exercises designed to promote proper posture, ease of breath support and help your voice attain the best speaking resonance.

We will learn how to add musicality to the voice, how to control dynamics and best practices for using intonation to tell the story, or give a presentation.

For 20 years I've assisted in developing singers, public speakers and voice over artists to access their authentic voice with more ease, accompanied by a personal resume spanning a lifetime of performing. My training includes 12 years of one-on-one training in apprenticeship for the field.

[Letters of recommendation from my professors & voice teachers available upon request.]

About Arlys

Are you a singer or speaker who would like a more powerful, authentic voice? My focus is to assist you in finding an easier way to sustain your best posture, breath support, resonance and pitch control by bringing awareness to existing vocal habits while providing a hands-on experience adjusting th

I have experienced improvement in my confidence after 5 lessons with Arlys as compared to a decrease in confidence after working with another instructor for near one year (not a TL instructor). I now realize the ability to sing and play piano does not automatically equate to the ability to teach and most especially, the ability to teach someone who was not born a natural singer (such as myself). Arlys is that instructor that embraces where you are and understands the anatomy of the vocal instrument and the science behind making beautiful music (no matter your skills or lack-of). Arlys brings to the table a multitude of experiences that support her teaching style and learning for students with diverse singing backgrounds or no singing background. In a recent session with Arlys, I was introduced to "rock star monitor" which after incorporating it into our lesson, was a boost to my confidence and performance. Arlys is one of my favorite 5 instructors and the only one I am working with one-on-one at this time. I look forward to each lesson and hope she will continue with this teaching platform for a long time to come.

The awesome thing about working with kids on acting is that they usually come equipped with active imaginations and are already versed in the art of playing. Adult actors of all levels vary in their experience and training, but some may not have as easy access to that inner kid. And at the core of good acting is the ability to let go of inhibitions and play, which most kids do pretty naturally.

I first started working with young people as a college student when I returned home to conduct improv workshops at Scotland High School where I had graduated in North Carolina. I was also a camp counselor for 2 years at our local adventure camp. (Don't get me started on the talent shows we'd co-produce with our kids). Since then, I've conducted interactive workshops on Shakespearean Acting (including stage combat!) across the southeast while on tour with the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival's Globeworks Program. I've also lead workshops at the West End Studio Theatre in Santa Cruz ...

Jason has been an amazing coach for my incredibly active animated son. He is great at redirecting my boy when he has trouble focusing and provides immediate feedback to help my son make progress. We live in a remote area where actives like this are not offered. We feel blessed that we were able to make a connection with Jason and for his patients with our rural island family. Jason it a true professional and communicates beautifully with me. I am looking forward to continuing lessons for my son!

Jason previously worked with my teenage daughter and they made vast improvements in her acting skills and college audition. She was accepted into AMDA. Now he is working with my older daughter to help her get ready to audition at UW and get a working reel together. He is fantastic and really good with any learning differences or styles that might come up.
