I have been teaching flute for almost 20 years. I have a doctorate in flute performance and have done training and extensive research in body mapping and efficiency of body use. I take a very holistic approach to teaching and playing the flute. Each student is a person, an individual unlike anyone else. Every body is unique and therefore will play the flute differently than other flutists. When I teach, I aim to get to know the whole person in order to effectively work with the flutist. I work to get to know how each student learns and processes information. A flutist cannot become a good musician without making the journey their own. My goal is to give every student their own individual path to reach their goals, while also giving them the tools to use in their own teaching of individual flutists. I emphasize these specific areas in my teaching: the physical aspects of flute playing, including playing position and posture, breath control, sound and tone production, projection and ...

Dr. John Ross is an excellent teacher! He helped me take the music I was preparing to record to a whole new level. He has so much knowledge and can present that knowledge in a way that is approachable for students of any level. I am so thankful I got to study with him!!!
Michael
John is an outstanding player and pedagogue. Over a number of years, I've observed John work with students of incredibly diverse backgrounds, ages, and skill levels. With each and every student, John connects with the individual, finding what will help that person rise to their fullest potential as a flute player. Technical progress is a given when studying with John. Additionally, students consistently enter his lessons eager to learn and leave with a renewed drive to grow. I cannot recommend John highly enough.

5 star teacher - coach and mentor - Great patience for a beginner like myself - never played before but now I’m comfortable easing into lessons - he shows you why your playing and then guides you through the lessons at your own pace - he also has the latest technologies to help - like overhead screens and sheet music that you can understand- I just signed up for another discount series of 7 lessons - I never give reviews but in this case if I can help someone who us not sure were to start - he is the perfect instructor-

The mathematics of Music! I have a ton of experience studying music theory, I started when I was 12 when I wanted to learn how to improvise with my jazz saxophone. I was very lucky with the opportunities I had to learn music theory. I learned from two college educated jazz musicians before pursuing my own music education. While studying jazz studies and music business I studied both classical music theory and jazz theory quite extensively. Whether you want to become a composer, an improve soloist, or just improve your songwriting abilities, I can provide the knowledge and technical skill.

About Andrew

I have almost 20 years experience with saxophone. I started young and traveled as a student performing in competitions all over the country. I have done every type of music competition and studied in college where I received scholarships.

Laura has been a great teacher for my 6 year-old daughter (starting taking lessons when she was 5). She is endlessly patient and has a perfect balance of fun and instruction in all her lessons. She helped us every step of the way--picking out the right rental instrument, finding extra workbooks that would be fun, coming up with ways to make practicing at home enticing. Laura is made to be a fiddle teacher--she has a obvious passion both for the music and sharing it with her students. My daughter left every lesson with Laura beaming with pride. I'd recommend anyone searching for a teacher to go with Laura!

I consider learning how to put together one's own music to be integral to learning how to play a musical instrument if one is to learn it to their utmost potential. Having a deep understanding of how music works enables the player to better understand their instrument as well. To that end, I teach my students how to compose their own music using music theory, because what better way to understand something than to make it yourself? If you would like to learn music theory and how to compose, I would highly recommend simply enrolling in one of my hour-long (or longer) piano lesson options, because I incorporate theory and composition lessons into those lessons free of charge (unless the student specifically does not want it). However, I am also happy to teach composition lessons independently, whether it be because the student plays an instrument I am not qualified to teach, or simply for their own edification.

About Joseph

I began studying the piano in my early high school years and instantly fell in love with what I consider the ultimate musical instrument. The more I studied the piano, the more I wanted to learn how music is conceived and put together. Between the act of sitting down at a piano bench to let my fing

As a beginner piano student with very little experience with the instrument, Joseph really did a great job easing me into learning my way around the piano. His lessons were clear and easy to understand with good direction on what to improve on next. He was patient, understanding, and very accommodating to questions I had regarding the material.
I would definitely recommend Joseph to anyone looking for a piano instructor!
Jonathan
Joseph has been a fantastic teacher. He asked me early on what I want to focus on. The pieces he picked for me to practice were challenging, but fair. I'm very pleased with how well I've progressed. I would recommend Joseph highly. If you want someone knowledgeable, patient, and down-to-earth, Joseph is your guy!

"I'm too old to tackle what I have failed to learn so many times: reading music, or even understanding the structure of notes and chords.
I just love to sing (even though, when I listen my own voice recorded, I hate it).
Laura is patient, encouraging, and makes it easier to learn techniques. I've had three lessons, and at least I am able to deal with my anxiety when someone is listening and watching me.
Great teacher (and I apologize for what I do to her ears)

"I've had other vocal coaches and learned fine but Stephanie has really stepped up my standard for what a vocal coach should be. It's rare to find a teacher who is clearly still very passionate and excited about singing, and happily guides you through any obstacles you might encounter in the learning process. I'm sure you'll feel the same after a few weeks with her :)"

"I've always been told that vocal training was important to becoming a great singer, but never took it seriously. Until recently I have become the singer I never thought I could be with Eric's help. And I've had teachers before, but I feel like none of them knew the answers to my questions. Even if he doesn't he will work with you until the answer reveals itself. All in all, he's a cool dood. 10/10. 11/10 w/ rice."

"I cannot recommend Billy enough. I studied jazz improvisation with Billy for three years, and later returned to study Brazilian guitar and Piedmont-style finger picking with him. I had been playing for more than twenty years when I started studying with him and he not only helped me improve my playing technically and creatively (on electric and nylon stringed guitars) but also expanded my knowledge of theory and helped me develop new approaches to composing and arranging. I am still working with the material he gave me and take lessons from him whenever my schedule allows."
