Joni C. Woodinville, WA

Lifelong piano learner, college trained, and now teacher over the past 3 years, piano is my preferred choice of musical expression. I teach all ages (earliest 4 yrs); and customize lessons for each student depending on their personal goals and preferences. Beginners will find the lessons motivational and enjoyable. All of my students CAN DO! Lessons are logical, and based on a step-upon-step learning system. I also have success with intermediate students who may have hit the wall, or are finding difficulty moving on in their learning. I am committed to identifying that barrier (whatever it may be) and helping the pianist overcome the issue. I specifically incorporate keyboard recognition, music reading/theory, artistic expression, composition, and ear training and stress outside lesson practice.

About Joni

I am a college graduate and lifetime learner of musical artistry having 2 years practical piano teaching experience after 25 years of employment at a local higher education institution. I can engage the beginner in such a way that they will be motivated to continue into advanced and a professional level. I started my own music education at the age of 5 and have loved music ever since. My music career began in 3rd grade when I performed in a musical play and participated in vocal choral groups. I continued to improve in piano and vocal skill and traveled extensively with a national organization and a college representative team. My travels took me to Europe where I had the privilege to perform in places such as Notre Dam, palace of Versailles, the Basilica in Rome and other places. I ...

About Kelly

After years of teaching all levels, and many different styles of voice and piano lessons, I can tell you this-- I LOVE teaching! My students have ranged from 5 to 65, from classical piano, or jazz/ pop piano to pop/ rock/ jazz singing, and no matter what we always have a great time. I guarantee that in our lessons, you will see progress almost immediately... but above all, learning music is FUN! A little extra info.... **In 2012 I finished a Masters degree at NYU in Jazz Studies, and just finished a new album of some jazz, folk, and original music. **I perform in New York City and Seattle, and I tour with my band a few times each year **I taught jazz piano and voice lessons for four years at NYU and also through the New York Jazz Academy and Brooklyn Music Factory, from beginning to ...

Kelly is a wonderful teacher! She is extremely knowledgeable about music. She helped me raise my grades in my music theory classes. I learned so much about building my repertoire and using different techniques in order to sing songs in a unique way. I would absolutely recommend taking any kind of music lessons from Kelly because of her knowledge and her ability to communicate the concept. Anyone will become a better musician when learning from Kelly.

Holly T. Seattle, WA

I have been teaching piano in the Seattle area for close to ten years. I have worked with young beginners to intermediate and some advanced students. My methods are eclectic and I often draw from the Kodaly Method for beginners. I encourage my students to sing along while they play to reinforce learning, accessing multiple neural pathways.

I teach my students to read music and play with feeling and heart. I instill a love of music in my students by creating musical moments in them and expose them to a wide variety of genres and styles. Students will learn basic technique, theory, improvisation, and performance etiquette, all while having fun!

About Holly

I am an enthusiastic musician with a talent for teaching. I have worked as a voice and piano teacher in Seattle for eight years. I was employed at The West Side Music Academy for over three years and am currently working on a Bachelors in Music Education at Seattle Pacific University. I am a huge believer in being a lifelong student! I have continued my music education throughout my adult life and have studied Jazz, Opera, Pop, Rock, Reggae, Blues, Soul, and Folk. As a pianist I began individual instruction at age 14, and have studied Jazz with Darius Willrich, Ryan Burns, Dan Kramlich and Mark Samson. I began singing and playing piano at age 5. I have been involved in school and church choirs including The Total Experience Gospel Choir, Seattle Pacific University Women's Choir, and ...

As a student, I take vocal and piano lessons from Holly. I look forward to our lessons each week and I love the kind of flexibility she gives me. I often find myself motivated by her lessons to practice on my own.
She has introduced a lot of new music to me this year--some music which I didn't think I liked!

Best instructor ever, indeed!
My daughter takes lesson from Holly. My daughter who cried when I would sing to her as an infant, who begged me to stop singing when she was in elementary. My daughter who would not participate in annual caroling, who early on in her academic instructions learned to mouth "watermelon" to give the impression she sings along. Now in high school, she takes lessons from Holly. My daughter enthusiastically belts out the words to songs! Holly is helping her to find her voice- musically, and in life. My daughter will now let me sing!

THANKS HOLLY!

Great Teacher!

Holly goes out of her way to find music that is just right for my son on the piano. When he showed interest in a particular piece of music, she found a version that was perfect for him to learn. Holly is cheerful, flexible, and communicative. Her skill with music is wonderful! We highly recommend Holly!

Simple and easy piano methods

About Masood

I started music lessons at the age of twelve with private Piano lessons. I took lessons for 15 years with prominent teachers, while mastering piano technique with a wide array of classical repertoire, from Bach to Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin. I have been teaching piano since 1984 and acquired the skills through interacting with a variety of students of all tastes and needs. I am able to help a music oriented student reach at a better understanding of piano playing technique. *** Lesson Details *** I would like my students to listen carefully to what they play, and practice attentively, which takes less time and more learning material achieved. I will evaluate which teaching method is suitable for my student after the orientation session. An average music student will be able ...

Heidi is very knowledgable in teaching classical vocal techniques.

I didn't realize how much Heidi changed my breathing techniques until several months later when the choir members I sing with told me that I was projecting my voice over all of the altos and all of the tenors. Her ability to demonstrate and teach great vocal range and tone is amazing.... She does require that her students practice these techniques at home and is also open to your needs and desires.

Don't Miss an Opportunity to Learn from the Best

Heidi is not only excellently trained and incredibly knowledgeable, she is personable and a great friend. In the lessons, you can expect instruction not just on singing a song, but on the mechanism of your vocal chords, the way sound works, how to translate classical singing and correct technique into pop and other styles of singing, how to perform and be engaging, and a myriad of other skills and techniques.

It bears repeating, do you ever think "I can't or don't want to learn how to classically sing Opera... who sings that way anymore?! I want to learn how to sing 'for real'"? If you do, you'd be like so many other students who don't understand the correlation between pop/modern style and classical training and you'll miss out on an incredible opportunity. You will learn how to breathe correctly, use your voice in a way that will leave you singing for the rest of your life, and techniques to reach those notes that you thought were impossible. Don't let those thoughts stop you from taking lessons with Heidi. I can honestly say that the techniques I learned with Heidi over 2 years ago, I still use to this day and I'm singing all the time! (In private and in performance). I can sing longer and better than many other peers just because of my lessons with Heidi. I know how to use and treat my voice.

She will stretch you to the point where you sometimes feel like you're going to break, but she will always be there to encourage and push - she knows the exact balance! Along with her impeccable skills, talent and knowledge, she is a friend to her students.

Personally, I had gone through some very emotional life events and once or twice she would even say "Let's just go for coffee" because I was obviously not focused on singing that day.

I can't stress enough how valuable and instrumental she has been in my life. Don't miss out on taking lessons from the best!

A Voice-Transforming Experience

Through 4 years of study with Heidi, I can honestly say her teaching has completely transformed my singing voice. Whereas before, I had poor pitch control and a thin, breathy tone, Heidi has taught me technique that has changed all of that for the better. She is a true master of her craft, which both inspired and challenged me to be the best that I can be as a singer. For those who want to be serious about improving their vocal technique and musicality, I could not more highly recommend Heidi as a voice teacher!

What a terrible experience. I signed up for lessons for my wife from Brett as a gift because he listed times that would work for my wife given that we have a young daughter, and have a hard time making time for lessons. Brett told us 3 days before the lesson that the time wouldn't work, then simply never showed for the rescheduled first lesson. Worse, he simply refused to do scheduling via email (he would leave voicemails and failed to return my wife's call when she called back as they were playing phone tag), and then told us he had another commitment during the slot we had supposedly reserved for him. Worse, he failed to update the site as he continually cancelled lessons and never showed up for scheduled times. I now have a huge hassle of getting a refund on the money I paid for lessons as opposed to a lovely gift for my wife. Life's too short and we're too busy for such an awful experience.

Fantastic for our 10-year old son...

Brett is fantastic with our 10-year old son who just enjoys playing piano and isn't looking to become a concert pianist someday. So many kids are miserable playing the same boring things over and over and Brett really listened to our needs and just nurtures our son's interest in music. Bravo!
