Christina D.

Brentwood, NY

About Christina

I am a classical singer and pianist from Wisconsin! I started playing music at the age of three on the piano and began voice lessons at 15. While in graduate school in Las Vegas, I started teaching both voice and piano lessons and found how much I loved imparting my knowledge to others and watching them make progress.

I have performed leading roles in Operas and soloed in orchestral concerts and recitals. I mainly perform opera/classical but love musical theatre as well. My performing experience has taught me a lot which I am eager to pass on to my students! I have been teaching with
Takelessons since my move to NYC in 2011.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher, I try to create a lesson environment that is relaxed and open but still efficient. I have specific requests for you both in and out of lessons so you can reach your potential. In the first lesson I will assess your needs as a student. You will have fun learning, choosing songs and discovering the joy of performing. I am flexible with the repertoire that you want to work on as long as we can apply the principles we have learned. I work hard to make sure you learn and accomplish the most you can. In the long run, though, it's up to you to be successful!

*** Travel Equipment ***
Keyboard and quiet room.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical technique in both voice and piano.

Craig C. is a pianist, accompanist, and musical director from Massapequa, NY. He holds a Bachelor of Music with a degree in Piano from Westminster Choir College of Rider University. During high school, Craig studied primarily jazz piano and was chosen as the All Jazz piano Player for New York State in 2005. While in college, he studied classical piano with Phyllis Lehrer and gained a great interest in teaching piano. His coursework included studies in piano and voice pedagogy and techniques, accompanying, vocal diction, and choir. Craig has performed with some of the best orchestras in th
e world in the Westminster Symphonic Choir. Notable performances include Mahler's 8th Symphony with Pierre Boulez and the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, performed in Carnegie Hall and "Die Erste Walpurgisnacht" by Felix Mendelsohnn under the direction of Kurt Masur.
For the past nine years, Craig has been involved with over fifty professional and amateur musical theater productions throughout Long Island. In addition to jazz, classical and musical theater, Craig has performs actively with performing/recording artist Ryan Thomas as keyboardist and is a well received accompanist around Long Island. He is very comfortable with all styles and genres of music and loves to share any and all types of music with everyone.

*** Lesson Details ***
Craig is comfortable teaching all ages and abilities of piano and voice. Students should expect a relaxed and friendly environment that is open to change and interpretation depending on the individual. Lessons are completely catered to each individual student's needs and wants. Depending on what the student (and parent) is looking to get of it, lessons can be anywhere very loose and free form to strict with clear cut goals. Students can study any styles they wish to study while still learning good technique and musicianship. Technique and musicianship will always come first in lessons. Students can also expect to have the style of teaching used to be catered to their particular learning style.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide some music, forms, recording equipment, and a music stand, but students must provide their own instrument, books, and any other materials I would like them to have such as a notebook or binder.

*** Specialties ***
I am most proficient in piano of all styles as that is what my degree is in, but I have extensive experience in musical theater voice coaching and teaching as well. I can also teach classical voice, euphonium, and musical theory. I am comfortable with all ages and levels.

Craig's Patience and Knowledge

Craig is very knowledgeable and patient. I am an older student (64) who started lessons at age 4 and then my playing became sporadic, sometimes not playing for weeks at a time. Craig has been focusing on open chords and using the Jazz repertoire to put concepts into practice. I tend to be a little hard on myself and Craig has helped me with that, too. His suggestion of working on songs two measures at at time has been very helpful

Great teacher!

Craig is an excellent teacher and a very nice, person. He teaches piano to three of us and easily adjusts his lessons for each of our competency levels. His instructions are easy to follow and his suggestions for mastering skills work. Our lessons are friendly and low pressure. I would highly recommend Craig.

*** Lesson Details ***
The very first lesson is a process of establishing professional contact between a student and a teacher; couple of exercises will be given in order to figure out the current level of a student. Then recommended material will be chosen.

You may also require what repertoire you would like to work on (either for beginners or advanced students). I have all the books/scores for Suzuki Violin School, Maia Bang, etc. I also work with Russian Violin Books (ex. "Yuniy Skripach" ("Young Violinist")).

I also work with ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome students, and study the subject seriously,

Lesson schedule may vary, depending on convenience of both the student and the teacher. I will always do my best to find the best time that would work for you. So please, do not look at my availability schedule, it is all very wobbly! Just allow me to contact you, and I am sure we will figure something out!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Online lessons available!

For beginners: I have all the materials (music, score, flash cards)
For advanced students: we can work on either material you have or I can provide you with recommended material (music, score, technical material)

Anna is an exceptional teacher. I wish I had a teacher like her when I was young, learning to play violin. Now I'm a senior and trying to relearn what I have forgotten in the last 50 years. Anna is very patient, she has an incredible knowledge of music and violin. The best violin teacher one can have.

Anna is an awesome instructor for my 12 year old daughter who is a beginner. Each lesson my daughter learns something new and progresses on the violin. Anna does a great job of teaching the basic techniques and not letting my daughter develop bad habits. Anna gives clear feedback: she praises what was done well and corrects what needs improvement. Anna encourages my daughter to excellence while making the lessons fun. My daughter loves violin lessons with Anna and looks forward to each lesson.
