Luke P.

Winston Salem, NC

About Luke

I majored in music at Berea College, then went on to The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where I completed a Masters degree in guitar performance and served as the graduate assistant to the guitar department. For the past ten years I have earned a living performing and teaching guitar. I am a certified Suzuki instructor, and I've held teaching positions at Winston Salem State University and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, along with at least half a dozen other schools and institutions. I've been featured on other artists' records, and received a grant to release an album of my own songs. I regularly perform in a wide variety of bands and ensembles. I love to teach, and over the years I have taught hundreds, maybe even thousands of ...

Luke was a very helpful teacher. He knows what he is talking about and is very receptive to questions and concerns. He will lead you in the right direction whatever aspect of guitar you are willing to delve into. I came to him knowing only a couple of chords and songs and came away after a summer of lessons knowing much more about music theory and feeling much more confident in my playing.

Willy M.

Winston Salem, NC

About Willy

Willy has been teaching music for more than a decade, carrying on the tradition he learned when his father taught him piano as a youth. He is a multi-instrumentalist with a degree in music from Earlham College in historic Richmond, IN (the birthplace of recorded jazz, and home of 30s era Genette Records). As a sound technician Willy gained valuable experience working at the world famous Tarry Town Music Hall near Sleepy Hollow, NY, where he worked with top notch touring bands like Blues Traveler, the Indigo Girls, Paul Shaffer, the Marshall Tucker Band, and the late, great Levon Helm. He also worked with A-list actors such as Stanley Tucci, James Cahn, Kevin Bacon and Keanu Reeves. While living in Austin, TX, Willy was a member of the American Federation of Musicians alongside ...

I wasn't really taking mandolin, but fiddle in the Stringed Instrument Workshop, but I loved it. Willy is a great teacher. I especially enjoyed the SIW, with my kids. It was a lot of fun to learn musical techniques with lots of people of different skill levels. I'm not the best musician, but Willy makes you feel like you can participate even if you don't understand all of the theory.

The Stringed Instrument Workshop last year was really fun because almost everyone in the group won some different musical freebies from different music stores nearby. We had a cookout and a concert, and both of my children were able to perform in front of the class. Willy set up a stage, lights and a sound system for us all to feel like we were stars! It was such a fun time, and we even had hotdogs and marshmallows!

I loved the Stringed Instrument Workshop so much, I had him teach my kids private lessons too, and they love it.

I loved taking lessons with Willy. I am only 7, and I am just learning, but am starting to play the Charlie Brown theme song. I can also play a little bit of Shorten Bread. There's another song too. It's a song that I learned that I really liked, can't remember the words, but it's a good song. I love piano lessons.

Mr. Willy helped me learn the song "Mean" by Taylor Swift!! I was so happy to play! I took the Stringed Instrument Workshop and I loved it! It was so much fun, and I was able to learn with my friends. It was easy to learn, and we learned how to play "Amazing Grace," together. We played it for my church and everyone loved it!!! :)

I will continue playing mandolin, and want to also learn violin, piano and guitar. I can even play "Mean" on the 12 string guitar now in open tunings!!

Robert R.

Winston Salem, NC

About Robert

Both my mom and dad were musicians and taught private lessons at home, so I grew up wanting to be a part of the music making. Now I am a university music educator who performs frequently as a soloist and collaborative pianist. I hold piano performance degrees from Carnegie Mellon and Yale. In addition, I've studied chamber music at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau (France) and vocal accompanying at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. I perform as a church musician, choral accompanist, and recital pianist in traditional and more modern styles. I'm active as a collaborative artist in competitions, auditions, and recordings. In the past three years I've been studying ballroom dancing for fun and as an extension of my interest in experiencing music from the standpoint of total body

During my career as a professional singer, Jaime has always been the first person I call for help with my CCM (Contemporary Commercial Music) technique. Over the years, she has helped me tremendously to develop a healthy belt technique and to increase my belt range as well. It would be an understatement to say that she knows her stuff. Oh, and she's an incredible classical singer, too. Just saying.

In addition to the breadth of her vocal knowledge, Jaime is as passionate about and dedicated to her students as you could ever want from a teacher. She always makes learning music fun and accessible, and she will be a champion and friend to you. Jaime is one of the finest singers and teachers I know.

Heather has an innate ability to uniquely assess numerous nuances in my voice. I'm part of a Christian rock band where I have to maintain proper vocal exercises to best prepare me for public performances and studio recordings. She listens well, takes detailed notes, and offers great exercises to help in the precise areas where I struggle the most. Heather is quick to celebrate accomplishments with the student, and patient through the student's struggle to make vocal milestones. I would highly recommend Heather to anyone looking to improve vocal ability.

I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. Very patient, kind and professional. Heather made me feel very comfortable (I tend to get really nervous when singing in front of people) so that helped a ton. After taking lessons with Heather I feel my singing has improved and my knowledge about the piano has expanded. Gives honest and constructive critiques. I would highly recommend taking lessons from Heather to anyone.
