Classical, steel string acoustic and electric guitar lessons. I played my first guitar around the age of 13, discovered it was difficult to learn on my own, and decided to take lessons at a local music store. My teacher was excellent and had me playing songs very early on in the lessons. It was fun! I believe this is one of the most important ways to instill a love for music and maintain the motivation to continue playing.

It carried me through everything from getting up in front of my friends to play, a garage band, playing gigs and my degree in music!

In college, I learned to play classical guitar at an advanced level in addition to becoming a decent piano, marimba and drum set player. That takes a fair bit of motivation which, believe me, I wouldn't have had if I didn't truly enjoy it. My passion for music might have been dampened if teachers were not able to help me enjoy learning the often challenging methods for playing musical instruments.

Let me help you the way my ...

About Blake

Hello!

I offer lessons to the north Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I received my Bachelor's degree in Music specializing in classical guitar in 2011. In addition, 10 years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, and alternative styles with electric and acoustic guitars allows me to confidently enjoy playing and teaching these styles as well. I can teach you or your child the skills needed to pursue hobbies or serious musical goals! Personal enjoyment, gigs, performances, recitals, university auditions, or just playing for your friends. My mission is to help you to achieve your own unique goals in
an encouraging environment where you or your child feel free to ask questions and set the pace of the lesson. When you meet me it will be clear immediately that I'm not an intimidating person and I honestly want you or your child to feel comfortable and enjoy learning from me. If you are a beginner, great! No bad habits yet. If you already have experience, great! We'll work on taking your playing to a higher level.

Some of my accomplishments include:

Performing in Master Classes for virtuosic classical guitarists such as Michael Partington, Andrew Zohn and Richard Savino.

Performing solo and group repertoire at a concert level with classical guitar.

I am well versed in western music theory ranging from Ancient to Modern.

Passed examinations in sight reading, transposition, scales and performance for guitar, percussion and keyboard instruments.

Various band gigs with electric and steel string acoustic guitar. I also played drum set. Not at the same time.

*** Lesson Details ***

No two of my lessons are exactly the same. Each lesson is tailored and modified to meet the needs and desires of each student. I want to figure out who you are and where you want to go musically and use that as a foundation to build lessons on. I teach with a laid back style and never yell or scold. The more comfortable you feel during the lesson the more we can get accomplished. The perfect lesson environment is one in which you or your child feel free to ask questions and play an active role in the learning experience.

I use the Aaron Shearer and Suzuki method books, primarily, for classical guitar lessons. These books help you develop your technique and theory. At the same time, we integrate various songs and pieces at your discretion that are appropriate for the current level of playing and that appeal to you personally. For rock, blues, folk, country, etc. I have various technique books to get us moving along until we know which direction you want to go.

*** Studio Equipment ***
private studio w/ 2 classical guitars, an electric guitar, an acoustic guitar, a computer with internet access and printer, box w/ amp, and seating for parents

The short of this review is that Blake is an excellent instructor. Having received a guitar as a gift I came to him with next to zero knowledge. He took the time with me to build the solid fundamentals and work up from there. In conjunction with working with Blake on my technique and further practice on my own time I was able to play with quite a bit more confidence than before. His knowledge on the guitar is quite apparent. My only regret is that I cannot continue the lessons as I am having to move out of state but I would highly recommend anyone looking to pickup the guitar to consider him.

I am an older student who has played another stringed instrument for many years. Learning classical guitar is a challenge for me. Blake is patient, a good listener, and has figured out my learning pattern/learning curve. I am excited to be making good progress studying with Blake.

His teaching my 7 year old daughter the guitar was impressive to say the least. It is a shame that she lost interest in playing because she didn't want to put in the work. Her lack of passion has no reflection on his professionalism and teaching, I highly recommend him.

Lessons have been underway for only a short time. Notwithstanding, Jason's teaching has been relevant, responsive to the student's needs and designed to motivate the student. He himself is quite knowledgeable of the Guitar and music theory, and a fine guitarist from what is observed in the short time we have been working together. I am pleased with this instructor and am looking forward to working with him in the weeks to come.

Teaching Style
I believe first and foremost in supporting and developing what musically inspires a student’s decision to study and play music. In order to fully develop control, musicality and understanding of the music language, it is important to focus on several components including music theory (scale and harmonic structure/function and rhythm), style, ear-training, reading and performance skills.

Expectations of Students
Like any aspect of life, consistency and patience are two very important qualities to posses when working towards a goal. The duration of each practice session is proportional to the level of the student. Learning how to practice efficiently with your instrument is key for adherence and success in obtaining your goals.

Jordan D.

Grapevine, TX

I am an experienced, educated, professional guitar player with a background in rock, blues, worship, jazz, classical, contemporary, country, and folk guitar. I have played/led for numerous worship teams, independent bands, and ensembles which are detailed in my "about me" section. I graduated Magna-Cum Laude from UTA with a bachelors degree in Music-Media with guitar as my primary performing instrument. I am the worship leader for Living Life Church, a private guitar instructor, an intern under Brad Nyght at The Bakery Studio, and a freelance musician/producer/composer.

About Jordan

12 years ago, I picked up a guitar and began my life-long pursuit of music. This pursuit has led me in a wide variety of directions. Today, I am the worship leader for Living Life Church, a private guitar instructor, a freelance producer, film-composer, performing musician and, of course, instructor!

I have a passion for a wide variety of styles of music. For several years, I was the lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter for multiple independent rock bands, the most notable being an indie psychedelic band called Tod The Fox. I have led worship for Grace Fellowship UMC, Brazos Pointe Churc
h, Bear Creek Community Church, The Cornerstone College Ministry at UTA, the BSM at UTA, Christ Is King Church, and FUMC Allen in varying capacities. At UTA, I studied Jazz and Classical guitar under acclaimed guitarists Sam Walker and Billy Robertson. Here, I also studied theory, piano, sight-singing, and music-production extensively. I graduated Magna Cume Laude with a Bachelor of Music-Media from UTA. After school, I spent 9 months interning/assistant engineering with acclaimed musician/composer/producer Brad Nyght at The Bakery Studio in Dallas- whose credits include being the drummer for The Michael Gungor Band and Desperation Band. Most recently I have played guitar, mandolin, and bass for multiple pit orchestras and guitar for the North Lake Jazz Ensemble with director Jim Eger.

My teaching style varies from student to student. Music is a wonderfully diverse subject and every student has his own aspirations. I will do my best to cater each lesson to the student's goals and interests. Whether that is classical guitar method, rock, jazz, folk, country, pop or anything in between.

I have an excellent internet connection and microphone set up for online lessons. I also utilize screen-sharing to make the lessons as close to real life as possible.

A few of my favorite artists include: Michael Gungor, Joe Pass, Andrew Bird, Chopin, Led Zeppelin, Glen Hansard, and Radiohead.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons will vary significantly from student to student. Not only does every student have different goals in mind, they all learn differently as well. I do my best to customize my lessons for each student's goals and needs. A typical guitar, bass, ukulele, or piano lesson may involve music-reading, chord studies, technical work, scale practice, theory, and of course learning awesome songs!

I consider myself a healthy balance between professional and light-hearted. As much as I want to make efficient use of the lesson-time, my primary goal is for the student to truly understand and enjoy music.

I have worked hard to be a flexible musician and teacher. I am competent in jazz, rock, classical, contemporary, blues, worship, country, and beyond and will be happy to teach any (or all) of these styles to any student.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My at-home studio includes:

- Chairs
- An 88-key Casio Privia keyboard
- Professional grade recording equipment (003r interface, behringer ada8000 with BLA mod, RNC by FMR, and more)
- High speed Internet access
- A printer
- A library of music resources
- Novation Launchkey MIDI controller

- Sm57
- Several Naiant stereo pair microphones

- Lanakai Ukulele
- A Savannah Mandolin
- Double input amplifier (vox AC15C1)
- Music stand

*** Specialties ***

For ukulele, I specialize in pop music adaptation and classical.

First off, I am a complete beginner. I have never played an acoustic guitar and only started to playing the bass the end of last year. I have tried on my own for about a month and decided I need some professional help. I just needed an instructor who could guide me and answer my constant questions rather than having to look up instructions online. Jordan is worth the time and money just having someone who can easily answer my questions or instruct me on what I am doing wrong. After the first month, I can see a lot of improvement from when I first started the online lessons. Jordan is very patient and knows his stuff. These types of lessons and also Jordan's enthusiasm motivates me to keep going when normally I would not try as hard when learning on my own. I am very happy with my instructor and online lessons. I would recommend Jordan for those who are interested in playing guitar.
