Gabriel A.

Chapel Hill, NC

About Gabriel

I'm a 24 year-old performing musician with 8 years of teaching experience. I'm an active member in the NC Triangle music scene as a performer and recording artist. I also teach Pilates, where I learned the value of self-awareness and balance, which is at the core of my teaching principles.

I feel I have something to offer to all levels and ages and have found my method to be highly engaging for young children and beginners.

:: My Home Studio ::

I have a living room studio in Carrboro equipped with my band gear, making for fun multi-instrumental lessons! Recording gear and a power
ful PA allow us to play to various audio tracks and record our own material. These tools are invaluable and key to my personal development as an artist.

:: Teaching at Your Home ::

You don't need a drum kit to start taking lessons!

I'll bring a drum pad, sticks, and a metronome, and occasionally some hand drums. All you need to supply is a pen and paper.

I've collaborated on a number of musical projects with Gabe -- mixing, writing and recording in studios. He is extremely talented and has always been a pleasure to be around. I would definitely recommend him to my own students (I teach guitar in Durham), as his patience and ability to explain complicated ideas is excellent.

My son who is 13 took lessons with Gabriel and had a great experience. We were only able to pay for 30 minute lessons due to a tight budget, but none the less Gabriel used those short times to teach my son as much as he could! Putting his musical knowledge to use while incorporating things such as the importance and benefits of stretching your arm muscles before playing was very cool and useful, and I would highly recommend lessons with him to anyone considering drum lessons!

Morgan M.

Greensboro, NC

About Morgan

I am a lifelong student of music, beginning my piano training at age 5. I graduated from the University of North Carolina's School of Music in December 2007. I have a BA in Music with a piano principal. I have taught a wide-range of students for the past 12 years. I am also a pianist/singer/songwriter who has lots of experience with making CDs, music production, songwriting, and how to get into the business. My 5th CD is scheduled to be released in March. Teaching music (piano, drums, and some vocal coaching) is what I enjoy the most. I also teach songwriting, although I feel that it is
more songwriting coaching, rather than teaching someone how to write. I am classically trained in piano and steer students toward aptitude in that genre, but I am also very flexible and believe that a student should work on what makes them happy to achieve progress. It is a balance of practicing the rudiments, while also having fun.

Are You Making the Most of Your Violin Practice?
Gifted musicians don't appear from nowhere fully-formed and ready to take to the concert platform.  For every 45-minute concerto or 90-minute recital you hear, hours of hard work have gone into every note, every phrase, and even how the music is approached, learned, and memorized! It may seem strange to say that proper practice is the most nerve-wracking element of mastering your violin, but if you don't know how to structure the session, how can you ever be sure that you're working on the righ
