Gregory H.

Astoria, NY

About Gregory

As a younger brother at the age of five, I began studying the piano because my older sister did. After my foundation in music strengthened I fell in love with the trumpet. At first, each note took time to develop and I enjoyed the challenge. The trumpet allowed me to travel all over the Southeast later in life and even to China with a 1940's Radio Show. I enjoyed many top-level bands the kindled my love and passion for good music. I want to share that kindling with my students in a nurturing and guiding situation, just like my teachers gave me.
I used to go to lessons and become
so motivated and inspired that I thought I could change the world. I always knew that I would want to give back exactly that. As my performance opportunities grew into venues like Churchill Grounds, The Rialto, and The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta and Radio City Music Hall, 54 Below, The Jazz Standard, Bowery Ballroom, Shapeshifter and Flushing Town Hall in New York, my fire for wanting to develop my teaching did also. I was always thinking back to what my old teachers gave me, inspiration. I then understood that inspiration is the key to success in life.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons will be something the student looks forward to every week. We will work through common method books and learn material that the student has an interest in. For example, some students want to learn to play high notes, a popular song, improvise, or write their own songs. I am a laid back guy, but I do expect effort in the lessons and at home. I believe whatever you put into music is what you get out of it, and I will inspire and motivate the student to get as much out of the lessons as they can. Students will create, with my advisement, and update short term and long term goals every few months.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Keyboard or Piano and Music Stand

*** Travel Equipment ***
They should provide their instrument, instrument care products (valve oil), method books and sheet music.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in jazz and classical music. I use many common methods depending on how the student tends to learn the best, and will even combine different methods if the student requires it.

Nino M.

Richmond Hill, NY

About Nino

I began studying piano and music theory when I was 5. My father was an accomplished musician (classical and folklore) who played great role in my accomplishment as a pianist and teacher

While studying in Music College, I took part in various festivals and competitions. I performed several piano concertos with symphonic orchestra. Some of them are: Mozart Piano Concerto No 20 in D minor, Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No 2 in G minor, Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor Op 54 pt. Parallel with my studies in College I gave piano lessons in classical music. I accomplished my studies with honors.
I traveled and taught music in different countries: United Kingdom, Central and Eastern Europe which helped me gain great experience how to teach students with different background

I got my MA from the Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA). My studies were focused on education administration and management. This helped me manage class in most efficient and effective way , plan lessons and develop curricula.

I would eagerly take students from all age groups and backgrounds and involve them in the most exciting process of self accomplishment.

*** Lesson Details ***
I enjoy teaching all ages 5 and up with different abilities, needs and requirements and develop plans to fit each individual. I have very friendly atmosphere in the class. I design certain games for children to enable them to better understand music language, theory and develop practical skills. I spend much time on ear training, rhythm development, music structure, music theory and performance.

In a 3 month period students will be able to understand different scales, basics of music theory and performance and will be able to perform classical pieces e.g. Bach’s inventions, Mozart’s and Beethoven’s little sonatas for piano etc

*** Studio Equipment ***
piano is a digital yamaha...88 keys, weighted

Nino, is a gentle and patient soul. She is very intuitive to one's needs and immediately corrects you on the spot, which is good for perfection. She wants you, the student to get it, and she uses her professional aptitude to push you to a higher octave.

I highly recommend her for your piano training. I, myself, wouldn't mind her being my instructor again in the future.

Scott B.

Forest Hills, NY

About Scott

"a masterful guitarist -- really, a total whiz of a rare order."
--Hudson Valley Almanac Weekly

"a force to be reckoned with... sophisticated chord voicings, complex finger picking patterns, and a flurry of blues, jazz, and folk inflected riffs performed with a ringing acoustic tone and an undeniable rhythmic drive."
--Wired.com

Scott is a an internationally touring guitarist and songwriter based in New York. In addition to his work as an in demand sideman for various artists and bands around the country, Scott is also an accomplished bandleader and composer with four acclaimed release
s under his belt over the last ten years.

As a guitarist, Scott brings a modern, technical approach to traditional american styles - jazz, bluegrass, country blues, western swing and chick'n pick'n country guitar - but as a songwriter he gravitates toward straightforward rock, blues and folk.

Scott's guitar playing and songwriting has landed him features from American Songwriter, CMT, and more. He holds a BFA in Studio/Composition, with a minor in Jazz Performance, from SUNY Purchase in Purchase, NY.

*** Lesson Details ***
When studying with Scott, students can expect a comfortable and fun atmosphere that promotes experimentation and positive reinforcement. Employing a curriculum that is equal parts formal technique and informal playing of the students favorite music, Scott makes every lesson engaging and exciting for his students.

After 3 to 6 months studying with Scott, beginners should expect to be able to play many of their favorite songs, have a firm grasp on basic scales, chords, theory and sight reading, and can even begin writing their own songs and improvising solos!

If you're already an intermediate/advanced player, Scott will push you to find your unique voice on the guitar, and tap into advanced techniques and approaches that will help you fully realize all that the guitar has to offer.

Lessons are tailored to each individual student's particular interests and abilities. Wherever you want to take your guitar playing, Scott will get you there and beyond!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will bring an acoustic guitar with me. My student must only have a guitar of their own of any kind. If it's electric, an amp is preferable, but not necessary.

*** Specialties ***
Music, Guitar, Bass, Theory, Song Writing, Composition, Improvisation, Sight Reading, Advanced Harmonic and Rhythmic Concepts, Group Playing
I am schooled in Jazz, but have a passion for all styles, including rock, blues, country, funk, folk, punk, and world music.

Scott is not only an amazing guitarist, but he is a superb teacher. Kind, supportive, and has an uncanny ability to break-down difficult pickings and strums into understandable and easy to follow directions. Most importantly, very patient. I was self-taught in the 70s when everyone picked up a guitar, stopped as an adult and am now re-starting it again after 30 years-and enjoying every moment. Scott is able to teach any type of music or song and intuitively understands and teaches the guitar style that the student would like to learn. Any student who studies with Scott should consider themselves fortunate. Not only does he know his stuff, he is passionate about music and passing on this musical knowledge to his students.

Worlds greatest guitarist gives lessons (and he's a good guy too)

I have been taking lessons with Scott for almost 10 years. Lessons have varied from ear training to guitar to songwriting. He is one of the most knowledgable and gifted musicians/ teachers I have ever known.

Lesson structures have been both formal and informal (at my request). I take a lot of information and knowledge home from each one and plenty to practice. Whether you want to learn a song or you want to learn theory, he can explain anything clearly and comfortably meeting you on your skill level.

I was really uncomfortable with where I was musically when I first started taking lessons. Almost immediately after starting with Scott I was confident in talking with other musicians in their language.

Do yourself and anyone who hears you make music a favor, and get a lesson with Scott!

im 23, been playing drums for 14 years,I had different teachers all growing up, but I realized that I had no real good knowledge of theory and '' why things works''.
iI've been taking classes with Rafael Leal for six months. During these six months there has been a lot of progress with the knowledge of music theory and my drums skills. There are a lot of music teachers out there, but Rafael's combination of knowledge and skills can not only craft you into a great drummer, but a great musician as well!I highly recommend you contact Rafael leal and pursue taking your music education to a new level.

Professional and competent...

I am a fellow musician, a piano/keyboard player. I first played with Rafael at jam sessions, where we met up several times before getting together privaetly for rehearsing and recording. Rafael is an easy going person who plays both comfortably and with conviction behind the drums. Literate in music notation, specializing in rhythms and patterns, Rafael plays many grooves from Jazz, Rock and Funk to Cumbia, Salsa and Brazillian rhythms for a nice, eclectic mix. Whether improvising or playing more in a tradition, exploring musical territory is a pleasure with Rafael, students can only benefit from his knowledge and experience. Enjoy the journey...
