I worked with Mary to get ready for my callback for Jersey Boys. I hadn't really practiced that music in about 4 years, and within 5 minutes she had me back on track. She can hear things that other people simply can't, and she knows how to explain technique in a way that is easy to quickly understand. I wound up going through to the final round of callbacks to play Frankie Valli on the national tour of the production, and while I didn't book the job this time, I'm on the short list to be brought back in soon. I'll absolutely continue to work with her to get my voice back in professional shape and to keep it there!

Mary was great and the progress she is helping me make is unbelievable. She's highly educated and very personable and makes the learning experience easy. I see nothing but good things to come!
Speaking Voice lessons are great for people looking to improv their voice to project in front of an audience or for actors. Work on basic breathing techniques, projection, diction and expression in pitch and speech.
Hello, welcome to my profile and thank you for taking the time to check it out. I am happy to introduce myself to you and share that teaching the performing arts is one of the greatest joys of my life.
I am a performing artist and teacher in Los Angeles, teaching a variety of classes from music, dance and theatre. I graduated from San Francisco State University in 2009 where I received a BA in Classical Music, a BA in Dance with a focus in choreography, and a minor in Multi-Cultural Theatre. I have such a strong, well-rounded background in many styles because I value creative explorati
on. As a vocalist, I studied classical voice since I was 16 years old, trained at SFSU and La Universidad de Catolica in Santiago, Chile and consider that as strong foundation, but always explored other styles. I loved singing with the SFSU Gospel Choir and the SFSU Afro-Cuban Jazz Ensemble, playing a mix of Latin folkloric music, Salsa and jazz. Currently I am focused on musical theatre and my own compositions. As a pianist, I began playing piano when I was 7 years old and basically self taught. I received more formal training at SFSU and in music education classes, yet I credit my skills more to my own exploration. I approach my lessons with more creativity and patience, allowing students to discover how they best learn music. I consider the same with trombone. I feel in love with it one day hearing Dixieland jazz when I was 16 and haven’t stopped playing since.
I have been teaching private and group piano, trombone, voice, theatre and dance lessons for the past 8 years. I have taught from my private home studio, private music studios, community centers and public and private schools. I have worked with children as young as 5 years to adults in their 60s. I have also worked in after school programs for many years and supervised and designed music, dance and musical theatre programs for children K-8th.
*** Lesson Details *** Considering taking lessons with me? Great!
I am very insightful, sensitive, flexible, patient and focused. I like to have fun with lessons and I laugh a lot. Joy is key and I enjoy seeing my students learn and improve. With my training as a musician, I always make sure that there is good technique and good practice habits. I wouldn't consider myself totally laid back because I do expect students to practice, (otherwise, how do you expect to get better?) yet my expectations depend on the personal goals and level of the students. I am here to teach you what YOU want to learn and tailor my lessons to that. This includes teaching whatever style you want to learn, be it pop, classical, musical theatre or R&B. It's all good to me. As for the lessons, I start with fundamental techniques that are then later applied to songs. My intention is to assist students in reaching their personal music goals, which could range from wanting to feel good about their voice to preparing for a talent show or professional audition. I always encourage students to learn how to read music and basic theory as well performance techniques.
How I structure lessons:
Voice 1) body awareness and warm-ups 2) breathing exercises 3) vocalizes 4) focus on one vocal technique for the lesson 5) ear training with solfeggio 6) song and performance
Piano 1) body awareness and warm-ups (especially hands) 2) finger coordination exercises 3) scales and arpeggios 4) ear training with solfeggio 5) song and performance
Trombone 1) body awareness and posture 2) breathing exercises and warm-ups 3) scales, slides and arpeggios 4) ear training with solfeggio 5) song and performance
Dance (depending on style) 1) warm-ups and isolations 2) dance material
STYLES Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Cha Cha, Waltz, East Coast Swing
*** Studio Equipment *** electric piano and trombone woodfloors for dance
*** Travel Equipment *** I bring a small keyboard for vocal students with no piano, though I'd prefer if students have their own keyboard. Students are expected to purchase all necessary books and sheet music. If it is an in home lesson (where I come to your home) I prefer a minimum of 45 minutes for the lesson. Thank you!
*** Specialties *** beginners (piano, trombone and voice) intermediate and advanced voice
Thank you for taking the time to check out my profile. I hope that we get to work together soon and I look forward to hearing from you!

*** Lesson Details *** I am a very fun loving person and believe in creating a positive environment where students feel comfortable to be themselves. At the same time I am a stickler for details and do not allow laziness. I believe a balance of fun with excellence has allowed my students to excel far beyond their own expectations. Good results takes HARD WORK! Please do not come to lessons with the expectation to sing like Beyoncé or play piano at Carnegie Hall after 4 lessons. Mastering your voice and instrument takes equal parts of time, hard work, dedication and patience.
My teaching style is individually based. For vocal clients, I asses their strengths and weaknesses and develop a plan to build up their weak areas while helping them find "their own voice". I focus on breathing, intonation and control which I believe are the foundation of great singing ability. I use a classical Italian based program along with pop, R&B, jazz, and rock. I have vocal coached in many languages including Spanish, Japanese and Chinese.
For piano clients I focus on strength, dexterity and precision in fingering. I also help students learn to feel the music and bring their personality and touch to each piece they are performing.
*** Studio Equipment *** Tanisha currently teaches at her performing arts academy the White H Arts Academy. There are private instruction rooms and a lobby waiting area for parents and guests. Parents may also sit in the lesson room if desired. Private lesson rooms include a piano, speakers, and a music stand.
The White H Arts Academy also has two state of the art mirrored dance rooms with sound systems and wireless microphones for practicing stage performances or rehearsing for a big show.

Tanisha is the BEST! I started taking voice lessons with her when I first moved to LA 8 months ago. I always thought I was taking voice lessons just to improve my confidence in professional settings since I'm really soft-spoken. But thanks to Tanisha I've built that confidence and have been applying it to building myself as an artist.
She's helped me develop my range in a way that I am no longer afraid of trying new things with my voice. Oh, and thanks to her I'm also learning to write my own songs. :)
She's awesome, makes lessons fun, and is always open to helping you get where YOU need to get.
THANK YOU TANISHA <3

Seth and I had a great first lesson. I haven't played in a long time and he gave me helpful pointers on how to improve my embouchure. He gave me positive feedback on my rhythm and constructive feedback on my tone. We worked through some songs together. Next time I will probably ask him to play some more for me so I can hear what I need to improve for a particular song. I highly recommend him.

I have been using your advice every time I practice. Again, I am extremely grateful for the advice you have given me: I have improved more in these last few days than in the weeks of practicing before our lesson. I was looking for a male vocal coach who had experience, and that is exactly what I needed!
Thank you for your time,

Hey Seth, Thank you so much for the great work you did engineering the recordings for Martini & Olive. We shot the videos today and the tracks were perfect. Had a blast working with you and hope to create more music with you soon. And your Triumph was pretty terrific a well. Cheers
Had a great recording session with Seth this week. He gave us good direction and really finessed our vocals and timing on the final recordings. Thank you Seth!
-Judy of Martini and Olive
Seth worked with us (Martini & Olive) engineering our Medleys — and he was patient inciteful and so helpful — massaging our intricate comedy melodies for our music video. We are a quirky fast funny funky lounge act and he understood our concerns musically and comically. We spent hours with him and he was a joy the entire time. Thanks Seth!
As a voice and speech instructor, my course work focuses on alignment, posture, breath, resonance, projection, and speech. I believe that voice work is the link between inspiration and performance, so I come at my voice work with a very physical, emotional technique.

Alex is quick to asses the essence of a scene. This makes her an ideal addition coach. Not only that, but her background in classical theatre really sets her apart from other coaches I've worked with. She gets tone, she gets, comedy, she gets characters. Alex turned my audition from a flat/static piece to something with depth and charisma. Highly recommend.
Adrienne August 11, 2015
Alex is the best acting coach I've ever had! She worked with me before a major audition and was incredibly insightful. She helped me get to the truth of the pieces I had chosen and instilled confidence in me. The audition was a success! Couldn't have done it without her.
Jo Ann August 10, 2015
Alexandra was my primary coach when I was applying to MFA Acting programs last year. She is the best! She was instrumental in my success at every step of the process: helping me to pick material, coaching me on how to highlight my unique skill set, preparing me for what to expect in the room, and even in-home coaching while I filmed a taped audition. She is insightful and clear in her instruction and the breadth of her theatrical training allows her to tailor each session to the specific needs of each client. If she hadn't already helped me get accepted to one of my top schools (where I'll be starting this fall!) I'd absolutely hire her again. I can't recommend her enough!

"Thank you, Vanessa Pace!
THANK YOU, VANESSA!
A year ago when I was shopping for a voice teacher, Take Lessons provided a wide selection of viable option
s. As a senior adult, I was feeling a need to clarify my "Call" in life, and to return to some of the personal strengths that I hope to continue using in the last 1/3 of my life. In my profile I indicted I was looking to maintain the voice that has been a part of every aspect of my life from theatre to singing, to preaching, to creating radio spots. When I mentioned that goal to Vanessa in our first meeting she countered: âWe wonât just maintain it, weâll restore it!â What a confidence booster that was!
Although my life work mostly involves speaking, I also have a love of singingâsomething I have participated in one way or another for the last 50 years. I wanted to overcome the âold ladyâ vibrato syndrome if possible and to be able to sing without concern that those within earshot would shudder.
In addition, I was looking for certain attributes in a teacher: ⢠A person who is at my stage of life or beyond. ⢠A person who is knowledgeable in both singing and speech. ⢠A person with a personal teaching style that is positive and encouraging.
ENTER VANESSA PACE!
Vanessa is confident and knowledgeable. In addition, she has customized my learning program to suit my current objectives, which have changed from one week to the next depending upon my professional assignments from work and my personal creative pursuits.
In this year Vanessa brought me to a point of âbreaking throughâ inhibitions and moving beyond what I thought Iâd be able to do. Her constant use of cues to put me on track with the use of my voice has been invaluable! She compared letting sound pass through the vocal cords (without strain) in the same way breath becomes music through a clarinet. Using words like âPull up your spineâyouâre two inches taller!â; and reminders to draw on the strength of (underused) larger muscles to support the efforts of diaphragm have been helpful in numerous practical matters of everyday life.
Vanessa is inspiring in that she is a life-long learner and passionate about things to the degree that she invests in them with intelligent research, attention to science, and a spiritual passion that drives her to draw out the best in her students in similar fashion.
If you are looking for a voice teacher, Vanessa will work with you where you are--and help you move toward the goal of where you are hoping to be.
I am thanking God this Thanksgiving Season for Vanessa Pace.
