I'm lead vocalist, lead guitarist & songwriter for a well-known touring rock band with a worldwide fan base and over 3 million youtube views. I graduated from New York University with Bachelor's of Music in Jazz guitar & trained with some of the most well-known and respected vocal coaches in the world. I'm currently teaching around 50 lessons a week to students ranging in ability from beginner to professional. I play in 3 active bands (gigging regularly) & produce/cowrite with a number of artists for their own projects. We will focus 1/2 of the lesson on repertoire and 1/2 the lesson on technique. Many of my students text/email me a few days prior to our scheduled lesson with a song selection for the week. I focus our lesson's technical study with the song in mind. It has proven to be very effective and makes the technique and theory are less "boring."

I have more than 12 years teaching experience. Of those 12, five of them have been in music stores wherein I taught students of all ages, musical interests and skill levels. My students have gone on to form rock bands of their own, compete in singer/songwriter contests and pick up other musical instruments all because of the musical interest/passion I have helped develop.

I was very involved with the local music scene in the Midwest and now, in the Phoenix area. I have written, produced, engineered and played on many recordings ranging in genre from folk to metal and classical to jazz.

My teaching style has three major areas: technique, theory and composition. I try to motivate students to write their own music and by doing this I establish a need for theory and technique to accomplish what it is they may feel or hear in their heads.

I try very hard to establish and maintain a comfortable environment with my students. In a comfortable place, someone will be open and not afraid to express themselves and make mistakes. Moreover, they will be able to recap the benefits of having a one-on-one musical instructor that can help them reach their goals.

I respond to passion very quickly. I can promise if the student is serious about learning guitar and passionate about music all together, then they will excel quickly with me and have much versatility to show for the hard work and practice.

I can provide instrument cables, tuner, music stand and practice amplifiers. I always expect a student to have his or her own guitar with a complete set of strings. However, I am always willing to let a student use one of my guitars for experimental purposes. Also, depending on the student and type of lesson, more may be required; such as: a computer with recording software, audio interface and a keyboard.

*** Lesson Details ***
In a one hour lesson, we will spend twenty five minutes on vocal exercises designed to teach support and placement. Having performed leads on and Off Broadway, I know that without good technique you can't do eight shows a week, do back to back sets in a nightclub or cabaret or tour as a pop or rock singer. The second half of the lesson is spent on songs. As an acting as well as vocal coach, I focus on dramatics as well as musical interpretation. A singer must be connected to the words as well as the music. I hope to teach you to love singing as much as I do.

Mary Phillips is excellent! I highly recommend her. Her knowledge of technique and her ability to explain it's proper applications helped my daughter improve not only her vocal quality but her range. Mary also worked on building her self confidence and attitude. I've notice a significant improvement in her approach to auditions. She is less nervous and more confident in her skills. We had a hard time trying to find an instructor who values someone with a lower range. I wish we had found her earlier!

All the students on my Student YouTube channel who have studied under three years, are practicing 2 hours a week, and you will have a similar result. That's 20 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Students under 5 practice about 10-15 minutes a day.

Please have an assignment book that lies flat, and keep it next to your music books as you practice between lessons. My instructions are very detailed to insure your best progress.

For on-line lessons, you will need a quiet place, and please test your sound and video prior to beginning of lesson. For students under 13 or so, do have a parent or caregiver taking notes while we work together.

I began taking on line Organ lessons with Stephanie in July of 2016. She is an excellent instructor. She makes you want to learn and do your best. She is very patient and explains things very well. She asks that you practice 20 minutes a day. Since she inspires you to improve and do your best, it is easy to practice longer than requested. She has brought joy back into my life through music. Writing songs is not as difficult as it may seem. I have guided many students through the process. It is truly a fun and creative time for both student and teacher.
Some familiarity with harmonic and rhythmic concepts, as well as some analytic terminology is necessary to get the ideas out of your head and into the air. I like to start by analyzing the songs of others and discussing them. Then we get down to the brass tacks and talk about the song as if it were no different than the blueprint of a building.

I came from Cincinnati, where I went to the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, taught dozens of students at all levels and played regular gigs every weekend. I am both composer of contemporary classical music and a professional jazz pianist. I know the European Art music tradition, its theory and notation intimately. But my native language is the blues and all forms of living American music. In addition to my classical pieces, I've written many jazz compositions. I spent a lot of time in the recording studio, and am an experienced recording engineer. All these skills enable me to very effectively teach all aspects of songwriting, from the study of harmony to the development of basic ideas, and overall arrangement. We can a creative approach, or look at existing tunes and see why they work so well. I am deeply experienced in the Great American songbook and what also music of the Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Motown, and on and on.

My first musical language is jazz and the blues, which means I feel all American music, as the blues defines all of our music. I learned my craft from masters such as Marcus Belgrave in my hometown of Detroit, where I played in many Montreux-Detroit Jazz Festivals and toured with the Motown legends, The Temptations. I was always a composer, and that drive dominated the next stage of my career as a classical composer. I acquired a Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University and my works have been performed all over the world. I have just finished a commission for ten saxophone quartets, with premiers all over the nation to start in November, 2017. That much said, I have a deep respect for all forms of music, from Mozart to Miles Davis to John Mayer to Aretha Franklin. All are equally profound! And equally enjoyable!

I spent many
years as college professor, where I taught classical composition, jazz piano, recording, film scoring and recording arts. Since leaving that world, I have been very happily and deeply engaged in gigging, teaching and writing the music that comes from deep in my soul and which expresses all my influences.

My approach to teaching also reflects all my skills, and starts with what you want to do with your music. If you want to develop your songwriting skills, we approach from any angle-harmony, development of basic ideas, or seeing what makes a Beatles or Beyonce tune work. If you want to develop your soloing chops, we can look at the deep traditions of jazz and blues. If you're an improvising player who wants to understand theory or develop your reading, I've got strong qualifications there. If you're a beginner, that's cool too! If you have a passion, then everything else follows with an experienced teacher. Bottom line-if you have an idea of where you want to go with your music, I probably have the experience to help you get there, no matter what the style!

I teach from my home studio, where I have a beautiful grand piano and many keyboards. I usually play bass with my students. I can provide customized backing tracks for you to practice with. I also teach on line. I can provide many testimonials from world-class professionals and former students who are now making a big splash.

For Classical Piano, basic technique, Jazz Piano technique, and Jazz Theory you won't find a more competent, caring and deeply motivated piano teacher in the area. I know Chris primarily as a highly skilled, erudite Jazz Piano player, who is always willing to share his knowledge. Chris is well versed in many styles of play and can help you achieve your goals where-ever you may be at. As a jazz piano player/teacher myself, I would have no qualms about sending my students his way for new ideas, second opinions, etc. I recommend him.

Ron is a professional musician in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area. He has been playing music since the age of six. He began his music career by studying piano and has picked up many instruments along the way. Ron has been playing live music for private events in the Midwest region since moving to Tulsa in 2014.

Ron shares his love for music off the stage by teaching private lessons to students of all ages. He has mastered an encouraging and effective pedagogical style of teaching. He has taught diverse students to play and sing music, including lawyers, doctors, retired adults, and children as young as six years old. In 2016, he founded Curtis Music Academy and has enjoyed expanding his musicianship as a performer as well as a teacher.

Ron was the recipient of a four year, full-tuition music scholarship at the University of Tulsa, where he was named the Outstanding Senior for K-12 music education. He graduated with honors, achieving recognition on the President's List each semester. Prior to attending TU, Ron received the Charles Ferguson Music Award for outstanding contribution to the music program at Missouri Valley College.

Inspiring. Just 10 weeks later I'm singing, confident & out of my box. Whether it's singing or an instrument you want to learn but you're afraid, just hire Ron. It's only the lessons you pay for the rest is free but both last a lifetime.

I was given homework last week. Came back today & nailed it! That's what he said. Still a long way from being a singer(my opinion). I'm still nervous & in my box but at least my box is open now. Ron's so great at what he does, he could make the sun freeze. After 20+ yrs of not being able to sing & only 3 lessons with Ron I can sing a Sandi Patty song then you know Ron's the man to call if you want to learn to sing. He'll make it happen!...Piece of advice, relax ;)
