I don't scold or shame and having a blast is the name of my game. I can teach you to improvise, read music, become a strummer or virtuoso, it's all up to you.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the basement studio, piano, guitars, amps, hand drums, a bass, woodwinds, FULL DRUM SET!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can travel with a sax, flute, guitar, electric bass, and a didgeridoo....

I teach by individualization and utilize all teaching techniques/methods that a student will learn best from. If one way of teaching works, there is need to change; if the student needs another way of learning, then we will evaluate that together, and make changes accordingly.

About Carlene

I am a mother of four. I have been teaching piano and clarinet lessons for over 20 years to children and adults of all ages. I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts and a Masters in Music in Clarinet and Piano Performance. I also have a Masters in Education in Early Childhood. In addition to private lessons, I teach preschoolers music and movement as well as introduce them to the piano as young as 3 years old. No one is ever too young or too old to begin music in any capacity, as long as they have the love, enjoyment and willingness to learn. I have valid criminal, child abuse and FBI clearances as part of my education degree as well as for teaching music lessons. These are available upon request.

Private Classical Piano Teacher

Get ready for a truly rich and rewarding experience. Maria studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Viktor Merzhanov. She is a 4th-generation pupil of Franz Liszt and 6th-generation of Beethoven. She was one of the fortunate few (Garrick Ohlsson among them) to study with Roberto Eyzaguirre, who was a student and friend of Claudio Arrau, one of the 20th-century's greatest pianists. Arrau studied with Martin Krause, who was one of Franz Liszt's final pupils. Liszt was taught by Carl Czerny. And Beethoven was Czerny's teacher. Through this great lineage, learn an incredible technique that will enable you to play the music of your dreams!

About Maria

Maria was born in Moscow, Russia. Her mother was a piano teacher and started Maria playing at 4. She studied at the legendary Moscow Conservatory with Victor Merzhanov. In the US, she won the Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Young Artist Competition and debuted with the Symphony performing Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto. She earned her Bachelor's of Music at the University of Houston.

For her Master's, she studied organ at Rice University with the world-famous teacher Clyde Holloway. She won many national competitions, including Gruenstein Memorial Organ Competition in Chicago and San Antonio Pipe Organ Competition.

The Russian School of Playing has produced some of the world's greatest pianists. This method is fun and lays down the foundation for a relaxed way of playing, which gives confidence and technical security, while enabling one

to produce beautiful "singing" tone on the piano. This helps students of all ages to take their piano-playing to new heights.

I throughly enjoy the lesson time spent with Maria as a beginner. She is an accomplished musician and transmits her passion for the piano to me as her student. She is kind and patient and totally focused on my comfort level and ensuring that I understand her approach to learning to play. I would highly recommend her to anyone interested in starting with the basics and having the enthusiasm for learning that she has for teaching.

Maria has been a joy to work with. She is kind, compassionate and patient. She is an amazing teacher and my lessons have been transformative. Every time I leave a session with Maria I am excited, rejuvenated and my skills are most certainly elevated. She makes music fun. She is also thorough and comprehensive and teaches excellent fundamentals. I would strongly recommend her to anyone interested in learning piano.

Having a wonderful time learning with Maria. I'm returning to the piano after a 20+ year hiatus, and after a couple months reacquainting my self with the piano I found Take Lessons. I chose Maria based on her experience and background. I'm excited to change not only my touch on the piano, but also in my approach to learning a new piece of music. Maria is very thorough in helping me dissect the music so I fully understand not just which keys to press, but how make music out of it. Thanks Maria!!

Private Classical Piano Teacher

For classical lessons, we will always start with scales and finger exercises, then move into level appropriate classical music in a variety of styles (Romantic, Baroque, even some 20th century). As always, the choices of pieces will be reflective of the student’s preference.

About Mandie

Hello, future pianists! My name is Mandie (or Miss Mandie, as my younger students call me). I have been playing the piano for twenty years, and I’ve been teaching since high school, over 12 years ago! I received my bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from Cornerstone University, but teaching has always been my first love. Teaching piano is so much fun for me; during the lessons we joke around and have so much fun, my students usually don’t even realize how much they are learning. For my youngest students, we dance and color and sing right alongside learning piano. I want my students to have a good foundation and knowledge of the piano, but I want them to enjoy the process. That being said, for those of you who are looking for a more traditional education, I have a very deep knowledge of classical piano and training so I will gladly put

away my crayons and teach that sort of lesson! If any of this sounds like something you or your child would resonate with, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Mandie is very accommodating and includes the parent in weekly conversations. She is very patient with my daughter who loves the piano but has ADHD. She has worked with my daughter for two years now and we just want her to enjoy music. Her recital duet was by far the best act! It was unique and captured my daughter love to be different!
Mandie’s ability to engage and not discourage my daughter makes my heart happy.
Mandie is very accommodating with scheduling and makeups. Whether you are interested in competition level piano or just the love of music Mandie is the right teacher for you.

Private Classical Piano Teacher

Throughout my teaching career I've taught about 80 students. All of them had different backgrounds and understanding of playing piano and music in general. My goal is not only to meet student's expectations but also keep them excited and motivated. We usually talk and discuss their desired repertoire in the first lesson. It can be substantial piece, a song or some classical work that they like but might be difficult for them. I can give them all the tips to reach their goals and be able to learn what they love!

"I am a fellow musician and piano teacher. I've known Tamari for well over a decade, and know her to be a dedicated teacher of piano. I've heard her sing a
t performances hosted by The Schubert Club of Fairfield County here in Connecticut, and she is quite skilled. I haven't seen Tamari in a formal piano performance, but we've sight-read piano music together at home, and she is very capable. Tamari's greatest strength is her warm and caring personality, which is essential for relating to students. Put that together with her excellent musical training, and you have a dynamite teacher."
