About Crystal S.

Los Angeles, CA
View Full Profile

Crystal studied Broadway style vocals at The Boston Conservatory of Music and has been performing professionally on the stage for over ten years.

About Crystal
Crystal brings a lifetime’s experience of professional musicianship to each of her lessons. Born into a family of musicians, she sang her first solo at age 2. She also benefits her students with an extraordinarily diverse musical background, having worked as a vocalist in gospel, country, musical theater, jazz, classical, rock, pop and soul styles. Her performing career has taken her from L.A. church meetings to London’s Houses of Parliament.

Crystal hails originally from Los Angeles, CA - where her musical parents gave her a head start by including her in the family business the moment she was able to contribute. She went on to study classical voice, piano and music theory at The Boston Conservatory of Music. After concluding her studies in London, she returned home and began working regularly as a theater performer, appearing in twen
ty world premiers and re-imagined classics. Most notably she played the lead role of Keely Smith in the big band jazz musical “Louis and Keely: Live At The Sahara” during its eight-month run at Westwood’s Geffen Playhouse. She also formed her own rock band, The Honeysuckle Jones Revival, with whom she performed her own songs all over Los Angeles. And she began working as a studio session vocalist, providing demo vocals for other songwriters, as well as arranging and performing back-up vocals for original artists, including Laura Roppe (currently in the Top Ten on Billboard’s Uncharted list of emerging artists.) Crystal played the lead role of Brooke in the new operatic rock musical “The Burning Opera LA” during its Los Angeles run in 2011 as well as providing ensemble vocals and playing piano and bass. She also performs holiday tunes from the Golden Age of American songwriting with musical quartet The Sleigh Belles.

Crystal believes that music is serious business but that it should be fun. She encourages her students to play music they love, as well as expanding their musical knowledge. She is a firm believer in basics first and emphasizes theory and technique as the tools to support creativity and provide freedom, power and control. She believes effort beats talent every time and the student who practices consistently will see results, whatever their level of ability. Most of all, she believes we were all born to make music.

Amazing singng instructor

Crystal has increased my daughter’s self-esteem and expressiveness through song. My daughter is now writing her own poetry and song lyrics, as well as being able to combat her once shyness quality. She loves to perform in front of others now and has a confidence level that amazes me, especially now that she is going into those “teen” years. I think a lot of thanks needs to go to Crystal, for assisting my daughter in reaching her current creative level!

Great piano instructor

Crystal is an amazing piano instructor. She is patient, understanding and dedicated. My daughter has learned so much from her. My daughter’s love for music has increased immensely since learning how to play the piano. This would never have been able to be accomplished without Crystal’s professional and caring teaching style.

How to project, use clear diction, and how to use the legit and belt voice to convey character.

About Kait
Kait K. has been teaching singers of all ages and abilities since 1997. She has taught in public schools, colleges and universities and privately in San Diego & Los Angeles, CA and Salt Lake City, UT. She has owned and operated The Performer Studio (a production company for high quality vocal productions) since 1997 and is the director of Salt Lake Singers Academy.

As a teacher, Kait's focus with each student is to help them understand both the anatomy and health of their vocal instrument and to help them tap into their very best sound in an engaging and fun way.

Kait: "Every singer has stumbling blocks. It is my passion to help them identify those, understand them and then...shatter them. Singers are complex people with complex instruments, and no matter what our expertise level, the DESIRE to sing is something to be protected an
d nurtured. I value honesty, discipline and detail work in the singing studio. I find those three things, meshed always with a genuine sense of FUN, are the keys to helping singers unlock and develop what makes them unique artists with something to say."

Professionally as a singer, Kait has headlined her own blues band, sung in several cover bands and also performed as a featured lead vocalist alongside John Lee Hooker Jr. (Blues Grammy artist nominee) on his western tour of the U.S. Kait was the lead singer and co-songwriter for the band Light Vizion and co-produced the band's debut album "Looking For An Angel" and can be heard as the solo vocalist on the album "True North" by Tristan Moore. She is currently a freelance vocalist in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has sung lead and solo in a large variety of venues, including Capitol Theatre, Abravanel Hall, Rose Wagner (Jeanne Wagner Stage) and several local clubs and restaurants as well as festivals and outdoor concerts including the annual Scarecrow Festival and the Brown Bag Concert Series and Furry Fiesta Fundraiser! While in Los Angeles, Kait performed in numerous clubs and blues music venues, including The Brown Derby, The Blue Cafe and BB Kings in Hollywood. She has also worked as a professional singer for several years in the Los Angeles Music Industry where she performed in several bands and worked as an in demand "session" singer (someone people hire to come in and quickly record vocals for various professional and experimental projects).

Kait's education as a singing performer includes a B.F.A. from the Actor Training Program at the University of Utah, an M.F.A. in Musical Theatre Performance from San Diego State University plus 5 years post-grad study in Los Angeles training in voice with world master voice teacher, Edward Sayegh.

In 2004 Kait returned to her roots in Salt Lake City, UT to continue both her singing and teaching career. She continues to write, arrange and record as a freelance singer, and has appeared as the featured vocalist with groups like Children's Dance Theatre and Ririe-Woodbury as well as other local blues and rock bands.

Kait: "My goal with each student is to help them to become the very best they can be as singing performers. But in addition, I aim to lift their spirit during the time they spend here, so that when they leave for the day, after the work they've done, they feel better, more inspired, more empowered and more confident and driven than they did when they arrived at my door. Teaching and watching my students evolve as both artists and people is thrilling! I have the honor of watching them find themselves through music while they build truly lifelong friendships with the performing peers they meet in the classes and performances they participate in here...they end up finding some of their 'kindred spirits' in life here, and that is something that is priceless as an artist."

Raised on musical theater through my maternal grandfather, vaudeville orchestra leader, Dave Smason, I was first hooked on Broadway musicals seeing the original cast production of the Music Man in NYC at age 3. the great off Broadway opening of"The Fantasticks" at age 7. It was not unusual for my twin brother, mom and me to belt out our 3 part versions of every recorded Broadway tune from Rogers and Hammerstein and Lerner and Lowe to Gershwin, Sondheim, Jule Styne, and Bernstein at any given moment.
Because there were never enough local productions to perform in, (ie; "Annie Get your Gun" , " The fortune teller" , " How to Succeed....," " Gypsy", " The Mikado", " Once upon a Matress",
"Brigadoon", "La Boheme", " Kismet", and " The Secret Garden", I started my own musical theater company on Whidbey Island, where I directed double cast productions of "The Sound of Music", " Amahl and the Night Visitors", " Grease", and "Hair" highlights, then in the Netherlands, "Oliver"," You're ...

About Abby
IMPORTANT NOTICE: ** Because my private lessons are sporadically scheduled between other teaching, all lessons for age 12 and over are a minimum of one hour.

Due to my maternal grandfather's career as a Chicago vaudeville orchestra leader, from early childhood, the performing arts have been in my blood. Starting to study classical flute at age 12, then playing in the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras and taking professional jazz/classical flute workshops/master classes, I've been teaching and playing all styles of flute music professionally since my 20's.

Vocal study began at age 15 with some great artists/educators in SF, Seattle, and Europe, including Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, Broadway singer Adrian West, David Tigner- SF Opera, Davida Kagan-Seattle Opera, and Roland Wyatt-
Manhattan Transfer coach /NY Academy of Dramatic A
rts. Through many years of teaching experience, I've developed a very successful, uniquely simple 8 part method to help cross cultural individuals/groups of all ages , styles, and levels, sing optimally from their hearts. The necessary basic vocal techniques can be taught effectively in 4 to 8 lessons, though integrating the technique into your own style takes longer and can continue throughout one's lifetime.

With a BA in Theater Arts from San Francisco State University, and over 50 years directing, acting, and musical experience, including the last 15 years also working successfully as an ESL educator, and 4/1/2018 to present, math and English tutor for Best Brains learning center, I have gained the confidence to help almost any student achieve their educational and/or professional goals.

I'm a classically trained vocalist with 10 years of experience in Musical Theatre, who transitioned into working with pop singers 20 years ago. My experiences consist of vocal producing, in-studio coaching, accent training, vocal arranging, and background singing for artists like Mandy Moore, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Diego Torres, CNCO, and the likes, as well as for TV shows like La Voz, La Voz Kids, La Banda, Mira Quien Baila and France's Les Anges TV series. Most recently, I've been working to help develop and coach young artists and influencers who need overall development and guidance, not just in terms of technique, but recording vocals, vocal producing, social media content creation and strategy, on-stage training, and more.

About Liza
Hi guys, my name is Liza Quintana, PKA Liza Quin. I've been performing since the age of 5, songwriting and recording since the age of 8, and trained/worked in musical theatre and classical voice for over 10 years after that. I became a professional songwriter by 18, and since, transitioned to working with pop recording artists. I've been lucky enough to work behind the scenes in the music industry for 20 years; writing songs, recording vocals on 100s of albums + music for TV and film, & singing back-up alongside several artists like Jennifer Lopez, Nelly, Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, Alejandro Sanz, Ricardo Montaner, Jon Secada, Ziggy Marley, Snoop Dogg, & Jencarlos Canela, to name a few. Because of these opportunities, I started in-studio coaching & vocal producing many of the artists I had written songs for. This eventually led to get
ting the chance to work as vocal director & coach for the Orianne and Phil Collins Little Dreams Foundation, and, most recently, coaching Latin pop group CNCO in preparation for their 2018/2019 world tour, as well as coaching some on-air talent on France’s NRJ TV series Les Anges 11. But in between all of that show-biz stuff, I've experienced every kind of scene, including gigging in bars, so I feel like I understand all aspects of performer life.

I've been so lucky to do what I love for so long, and now I want to help anyone at any level do something they love, too. I became a vocal coach, not because I think I'm a perfect singer, but rather because I have loved and continue to love learning the craft of singing and want to help others who love it, too. I sympathize with a singer's struggles to constantly get better, and I also appreciate the value in helping people who have always been curious about singing, & just need the right kind of guidance to get the chance to learn a skill that can often make one feel so vulnerable.

With me, beginner students can expect to learn about basic technique, vocal health, and finding their natural voice in a way that pertains to genres they like, so that it all seems not-so-scary. Intermediate students can explore finding their personal style, safely expanding their range, and correcting any potentially unsafe habits, while professional students can get feedback and tips to improve on their overall strategies and goals moving forward.
I hope I get the chance to also help YOU reach your goals and full potential!
