Private Saxophone Teacher

The saxophone can be one of the funnest instruments to play, no questions asked! In order to reach that point it's important to have certain things in order such as: sound production, breath support, musicality, and technique. In lessons use a variety of exercises and method/etude books, playing duets together, as well as listening and ear training to give my students a well rounded approach to the saxophone and music helping them to become the best musician they can be.

About Bill

Bill is multi-instrumentalist, jazz musician, composer, arranger and educator. He developed a strong connection to music early in life through some family tradition, encouraging parents and many inspiring and influential teachers. He has gone on to perform alongside a number of noteworthy artists and ensembles and has toured extensively overseas and throughout North America.

His love for music came to life though performances with several ensembles in public school, regional big bands and his own jazz saxophone quartet. He is a graduate of the Purchase College Conservatory of Music's Jazz Studies program and has recently become a graduate of New Jersey City University's M.M. Multiple Woodwind Performance program.

Following two years performing abroad on cruise ships and the national tour of Young Frankenstein: The Musical, he was dr

awn back to New York City. Performing regularly on piccolo, flute, alto flute, clarinet, bass clarinet and all saxophones, he is proving to be valued asset in the NYC music scene.

Bill performs regularly with his group, Bill and the Sixth Generation, while also working as a Broadway pit musician, a sideman and a private music teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
Every student is unique, therefore, lessons are designed to fit the student individually. My teaching style is molded to satisfy each students wants and needs. I also like to focus on developing proper playing habits. I see it as my job to help my students understand and develop the proper techniques to eliminate bad habits in order for them to be the best they can be on their instrument. Lessons are about having fun making music, learning, and improving.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Chairs, music stands and keyboard for harmonic discussions.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to bring their own music notebook and their own instrument. They may also need to purchase their own lesson books when the time comes.

*** Specialties ***
I can help my students learn how to play in a variety of styles ranging from classical (solos, chamber music, etudes, etc.) to jazz (improvisation, harmony, etc.). Whether they're working on a song to play at school, a NYSSMA or All County solo, or just learning for fun, I will help them play to the best of their ability.

Private Saxophone Teacher

I'm a full-time musician in the music industry for 13 years now performing with such artists as J.C. Chasez (N'Sync), Tony-award winner Alice Ripley along with several theater companies. I've also coached multiple band programs for 4 years now. Success comes from having a thorough understanding of each instrument I play. This allows for multiple approaches to learning each instrument, rapid development of the student and involving fun teaching techniques. You'll learn fast and enjoy doing it!

About Jesse

Music lessons were such a chore in my childhood. My mother drudgingly dragged me to lessons every week and forced me to practice at least once a week before my next lesson. I soon met a new teacher who offered a different perspective and genuinely made playing music fun.

I can honestly say that it changed my life.

I wouldn't come to understand how until much later. I couldn't have even imagined becoming a professional musician until college but I was certainly given the tools to be successful in whatever I pursued living in such a demanding and competitive world. Self-confidence, active critical thinking skills, consistent work ethic, maintaining a healthy imagination, a lifelong appreciation for the arts. These all stem from my time in lessons and later my career in music.

As a professional musician in the San Diego and Los A

ngeles area, I perform regularly with many different music groups and solo artists including Frankie J, San Diego Symphony, San Diego Winds, Sure Fire Soul Ensemble and many more. I have also coached the band programs at Helix, Hoover, Del Norte and Rancho Buena Vista High Schools on all woodwinds.

Originally a classically-trained saxophonist (concert band, orchestral, solo literature), I currently hold a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Music emphasis in Jazz from California Institute of the Arts and Bachelors of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University. I specialize in teaching intermediate and advanced students but also work very efficiently with beginners.

In the spirit of my previous teachers, I encourage new and fun methods of music instruction while still reinforcing the basics. All with the idea of having fun while playing music!

Thank you for your consideration.

I have been working with Jesse for a few years now. I am bummed that the subject section of this review only lets me select one subject. Jesse has helped me with ear training, theory and composition, piano, performance, harmony, and overall musician advice. I cannot think of a more authentic and caring mentor and teacher out there that could be as efficient and helpful as Jesse has been to my career. I have seen a lot of progress in my musical career and my confidence as a musician has grown thanks to Jesse! He genuinely cares about the art and his students, he gets involved in their music careers and makes sure that the lesson is learned. He is familiar with many approaches and works hard for his students. Music is very lucky to have Jesse as a teacher!

Jesse is extremely patient, and will cater to your individual needs. He's a teacher who is truly on your side and aspires to help you reach your goals! I highly recommend lessons with Jesse, he makes playing fun!

Private Saxophone Teacher

I have been very fortunate to have had some incredible teachers over the years - George Garzone, Kenny Werner, Billy Kilson, Ed Tomassi, Shannon LeClaire, and many others - and I know how much of a difference the right teacher can make.

I love to teach, and have been teaching both privately and in a school setting, as a band director, for many years. I have worked with students of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to advanced players. Whether you want to learn how to read music, improve your technique, work on your sound, practice the fundamentals, develop your soloing, or all of the above, I can help take you to the next level.

I hope to work with you!

About Dan

Originally from San Francisco, I have been playing saxophone for nearly 20 years. I have been fortunate to perform all over the world, including recent tours in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Panama, and Costa Rica, and have shared the stage with many great artists, including Danilo Perez, Kenny Werner, Ralph Thomas (Sun Ra Arkestra, Quincy Jones), Benjamin Koen (David Murray, Cecil Taylor), Uriel Barthelemi, Opor Red, R&B singer Allen Stone, and singer-songwriter Amanda Palmer.

I have spent many years working with private students ranging of all ages and levels. I have also served as the Performing Arts Director at the prestigious American Pacific International School, leading their concert band and music education programs.

I hold degrees from the University of California, Berkeley; Berklee College of Music; and am currently pursuing

my masters at Berklee as part of the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI).

Before moving to Boston, I spent many years teaching and playing professionally in Asia.

Dan is kind and caring. He was very patient going over the super basics with a brand-new player! He gave good, clear instruction, and is focused on mastering the fundamentals so players can start with good habits and good sound, and so players can make future advancements more smoothly.

Dan is a fountain of knowledge; an incredibly talented and eclectic artist. I have been struggling with alto sax for years but with Dan’s approach, I finally feel, I am making some progress. Dan tailors the lessons to fit your needs; making it challenging, comprehensive, engaging and fun. He helps me transcribe small parts of licks I like, which has been an invaluable experience for me. He makes sure that you REALLY get the material you are studying. Don’t just shake your head and say “yes”.
He is always there to answer your questions (no matter how dumb they may seem), encourages and motivates you.

My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played many different instruments in many different kinds of bands. It all one major thing in common, it was FUN! If you are not having fun while learning an instrument you won't want to learn. Lessons can be fun AND educational at the same time. I have had many parents tell me I'm one of the best teachers they have ever seen. (A couple of them were public school teachers themselves). I truly want my students to succeed and I will do everything in my power to help them accomplish that!

Jerry is a wonderful instructor. I wasn’t sure how online lessons would go but they have been seamless and fun and my son is making progress with the bugle. I would highly recommend this format and this teacher. The convenience and quality of instruction are excellent. We are signing up for more lessons and may move on to another instrument once my son feels confident on the bugle.

Tami
"Our experience with Take Lessons and more importantly with Jacob the instructor have been very good so far. My 9 year old son is just starting saxophone
and based on the two lessons he had with Jacob, they appear to get along well. Jacob appears to be very patient with my young inexperienced saxophone player.

My son was able to play a few notes the first lesson and played Hot Cross Buns the second lesson. Apparently, playing anything that early in training is unusual. So we are very pleased and hope to see the progress continue."

"We had our first saxophone lesson with Benjamin today and it was excellent! He is clearly a master that can assess a student’s skill level and adapt the

"I am a fellow musician and colleague and have had the privilege of knowing Isaac for years, as well as seeing him play saxophone at numerous live events.
I don't have kids yet, so I can't yet speak as a parent of Isaac's students, but when I do have kids in the future, I truly hope they will take lessons with Isaac and I would entrust them with him in a heartbeat.

The first thing people notice when they meet Isaac is that he is an all-around great, kind, easy-going, brilliant guy with a ready smile, and students of any age would thoroughly enjoy having him as a teacher.

The second thing people notice is that Isaac is an absolutely AMAZING musician and saxophonist!! His talent and experience are off the charts. Everywhere he performs, he gets huge amounts of admiration, applause, attention, accolades and compliments. On numerous occasions, I've heard audience members around me comment to each other about his amazing performance skills on sax (and keyboard). He is incredibly versatile and knowledgeable in musical styles, theory and musical languages-- I've heard him play traditional jazz, smooth jazz, funk, pop, Gospel, contemporary Christian, EDM and more, and he plays them all with ease and expertise. Not only is he amazing on sax, but you may not know he's also an incredibly gifted producer, keyboardist and songwriter as well.

This guy is a professional through and through, and his students are inspired by him and know they are SO lucky to have him as a teacher!! I hope you take the opportunity to take lessons from this amazing musician while you can!!"

"Kendra is an awesome instructor ... As an adult student new to the saxophone she not only taught me the fundamentals but also adjusted the lessons to the
style of music I enjoy... My daughter took clarinet with Kendra and was just as happy... The other amazing thing was in a short period of time she brought me to the level where I could be a part of her adult saxophone chamber group... I would highly recommend Kendra whether you are new to the saxophone or clarinet or have been playing awhile and want to increase your level of play with the style of music you enjoy!"

"Kareem is a dedicated and diligent musician and teacher. He is able to share his love of music with students of all ages. Not only is he extremely capab
le of teaching students the technical aspects of music, but his lessons incorporate a wider perspective as well, such as, listening to different genres of music and asking his students to discuss what they hear. He is always positive and encourages students to do their best. He has style and class and it is a privilege that two of my children can study under his tutelage."
