I welcome piano students of all ages and levels of experience. I don't have a set curriculum or required method book, as I feel that it's important to tailor lessons to the individual student. I work with my students to learn how to read music and feel it's important to include theory and ear training to have a more complete understanding of how and why we do what we do as we're playing. I specialize in classical music, but am happy to work on music from other genres such as rock, pop, and Broadway, or others. I feel this allows my students to be fully engaged at their lessons when the music we're working on is something that interests them.
I have loved music almost all my life. I began my lifelong journey to immerse myself in learning piano at age seven. At thirteen, I added violin lessons as well. By the time I reached high school, I knew that music would be my major in college, and that music would always be a vital part of my life

Hello! I'm Carolyn Smith and I love being involved in my students progress. Helping my students find their true voice and helping them build power, versatiity, strength, and range is very exciting With all my singers I teach from an understanding of how the voice works and help my students to understand their voice. With this approach to vocal technique my students are able to sing in all major styles including musical theater, rock, pop, and classical literature. I am a very supportive and patient teacher and encourage my students to explore their voice while helping them maintain healthy vocal habits to avoid straining and abuse. When teaching singing, I especially enjoy diagnosing any problems with the voice and working together to solve them.
Since 1988, I have been teaching voice to individuals and groups in my private studio. I have a masters degree in vocal music and drama and a bachelor's degree in vocal music from the prestigious School of Music at University of North ...

Our 5 year old son has been taking trumpet lessons with Beckie now for 3 months. He has done amazing progress, is eager to practice every day in order to please her, and looks forward to each lesson. Beckie is incredibly encouraging, kind, yet strict enough to keep child's play away from the lesson, and finds ways to make a small child understand the basics of music theory. She balances the lesson nicely between actual playing and theory, never tiring out the student too much with either one. She's reliable, always on time, and communicates very well with both student and parents about any wishes we may have. She makes our son feel special, and he is very sad having to leave her, as we are moving out of the country this summer. His own words being: "Isn't it sad that I'll have to stop my lessons with Beckie, now that we've just gotten started - I really like the way she teaches."
All this to say... we warmly recommend her, and regret having to stop lessons with her. And that we encourage anybody, adult or child wanting to learn the trumpet (or any other instrument Beckie teaches!) to use her services!"
1. He has a great personality and is very enthusiastic and understanding, which makes any struggles during lessons less painful.
2. He tailors your lessons to what *you* are interested in. (While teaching the fundamentals you will need to make your goals happen)
3. He is always thinking of new ways to revolutionize lessons and peoples' perspectives on music.
I really enjoyed my lessons with Greg and you will, too!"
I especially enjoy when we summarize a lesson and decide some clear goals for the next week, making practicing on my own time easy-breezy. He knows a lot, (like A LOT) about the guitar, and music in general, and communicates theory/concepts clearly. I've learned so much about finger picking and how to navigate the fret board, and the progress I see in myself is incredibly motivating.
Lessons are fun and are always a highlight in my week. Schedule a few lessons and see for yourself! Truly the best instructor on here."
Curious about the history of classical piano music? Take a journey through history and learn about the four distinct musical periods in this lesson from Brooklyn, NY music teacher Julie P... Musical styles are always shifting and developing. Throughout history, as musicians and famous piano composers experimented with sounds and instrument design, the music world expanded and more possibilities became evident. Early musicians started with simple melodies, sung in unison. But s …
