Mr Yakov is very pleasant, patient and professional. He makes learning fun. One of my daughters is very shy and particular. I was concerned for her first violin. But she ended up loving the lesson and the instructor. We did some lessons online and at his studio. During the online lesson, the connection with our internet was horrible. He could hear her playing but she couldn't hear him. Yet, patiently, he got creative and taught the lesson with my daughter through chat. The environment of the studio is comfortable. You can tell he's passionate about what he does. That left me with a great impression of him. We look forward to more lessons with him for as long as we can.
Thanks Mr Yakov!!!
Clarinet has been my main instrument since I was in 6th grade. I took private lessons in middle school all the way through college as a music major. I can work with students just getting started or more advanced students who need help with band music or solos.
I have a Master's in Music Technology from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and a Bachelor's in Music (Technology and Recording) from the University of Indianapolis. I started on the piano when I was in elementary school. I began playing the clarinet, my primary instrument, in 6th grade. I then started playing the saxophone in 8th grade and started playing the flute in high school. I also teach beginning trumpet and ukulele lessons. These are secondary instruments for me so I only teach beginners, but I can help you get started! I have played trumpet on my own off and on for years and I play a couple times a month with local ukulele groups.
*** Lesson Details *** I can give lessons in person (my house or yours) or online! You must have your instrument, necessary materials, and music books at your lessons. You may
need to purchase additional books and sheet music.
Chelsea was very patient and listened to my concerns. She had material ready for me to play and was very kind when she corrected me. She always found something I did right even when I made mistakes. Very good teacher!

Chelsea did a great job at our first lesson! She was patient and encouraging. She gave my daughter good suggestions on how she could improve and things to try in areas she was struggling. My daughter felt so much better after the lesson. We will continue to take lessons with Chelsea
September 9, 2017
We sent music to Chelsea in advance and she was able to help my son with the difficult parts of his music. The time was well spent and she explained things well. We look forward to our next lesson and working with her over the next month to help him catch up.
Beginner to intermediate level; also performance prep for advanced level
Why these lessons are different: - Formally trained conductor/composer/producer - Individual or group session options including full band production - A long roster of satisfied clients - Broad base of musical styles (rock, classical, jazz, blues, metal, bluegrass, folk, theater, big band, symphonic, pop, punk, country, march, gospel, avant-garde...) - Over 20 yrs teaching experience and work with recognized professionals including work in some of the top-rated private schools in the United States - Over 30 years performing experience
My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to
) the Classical approach to Western tonal harmony and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. In my experience, this structure creates the strongest foundation for pupils to build the rest of their musical lives on, whether professionally or solely for personal enjoyment. All of my students are on the fast track to studying music theory. Whatever level they are at when I start with them, I guide their efforts into bringing the students up to a certain level of comprehension regarding the mathematical aspects of music and how it relates to their instruments. This understanding of theoretical principles of sound allows the students to play any style of music they wish, no matter how their tastes may change throughout their lives.
Curriculum Gradation: Elements of rhythm Elements of pitch Elements of dynamics Elements of articulation Reading/Writing notation Tone development Finding/Expanding your range Dexterity, speed, and accuracy How to project How to advance to the next level Music theory Playing by ear Improvisational techniques Finding your signature style Expression/Lyricism Composition/Arrangement Project Management
Darrell helped me a lot to get a handle on my Ableton rig. I needed to set up midi tracks, locate presets to create cool sounds from plugins. Then I needed to export the audio of a couple of those tracks to import into a separate Pro Tools project. Lot of progress, thanks Darrell! -- Frank S

My first lesson was extremely productive. I am an adult student and hadn't played in many years and Max focused on techniques to help me with my weaknesses, and to quickly surpass the level of playing I was previously at. He is patient, encouraging and an excellent teacher.

Max is a fantastic teacher! As a parent I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a very experienced, kind, and fun teacher. Max is all of these things plus more. What I really like about him, besides that he is very knowledgable and amazingly talented, is that he always has a positive attitude! Lila loves to go to her lessons and she learned so much during her time with Max.
Music is a valuable tool for self expression and personal development. It empowers students to think creatively and optimistically, and it also provides a platform to learn widely-applicable skills. I aim to help my students feel understood, heard, and confident through the power of their craft. By making these skills feel accessible, familiar, and fun, I am confident that students will excel!
Students will learn about efficient practice, creative problem solving, and storytelling through their art, as well as craft components like tone, rhythm, articulation, intonation, and scales/technique. We can also discuss how to read music and understand music notation.
I am able to teach clarinet as well as bass clarinet.
As a graduate student at the Mannes School of Music, I understand and still face the challenges of practicing and progressing on the clarinet. HOWEVER, I also know how rewarding it feels to overcome each obstacle! I aim to make this process joyful.
Lastly, and most ...
I am a recent graduate from the Mannes School of Music having studied Clarinet Performance with Jon Manasse. I am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship. In my years of teaching, I have taught a wide variety of ages and experience levels and am incredibly passionate about watching my students' musical and personal growth. I believe every piece of music can create imagery and narratives, and I want to help others find this joy. Let's tell stories together!
