Is it hard to learn a musical instrument? That’s usually the first question
people ask. My answer? Not at all! I teach music based on the Irish/Celtic tradition. First, you'll learn to play by ear, and then when you're comfortable with where everything is on the harp, we'll move on to reading notes. Playing in the Celtic tradition is heavily based on improvisation, and learning the freedom of what it means for the music to come from within you. Learning the harp is all about welcoming music into your life, and making it a part of you.

About Kathryn

Hi there! I am a professional opera and choral singer, pianist/accompanist, and Celtic harpist. I love all animals (especially dogs), and baking goodies for my friends, family, and students! I hold an MM in Voice, summa cum laude, from UCLA's Herb Alpert School of Music, and a BA in Music, magna

I can not recommend Kathryn as both a voice and piano Instructor highly enough. She is an extremely down-to-earth and highly gifted instructor. She makes her students feel comfortable but will also challenge them to bring out the best in them. She has extensive knowledge of vocal repertoire as well as an efficient and fun approach to piano methods. Kathryn is also an active and professional vocalist which gives her an ability to guide students through auditioning processes, audition piece selection, and requirements for overall performance preparedness. Her background as a Celtic harpist and pianist also enables her to help singers approach their musicianship skills with the acumen of an instrumentalist; a truly important skill that will set you a part from other singers. Kathryn has specifically helped me work through issues with my vocal health. She has given me practical and tangible strategies to ensure that I develop a healthy vocal tone and maintain good vocal care habits. If you are looking for a teacher with a TON of experience, an unassuming demeanor, and the ability to help you reach YOUR unique musical goals and needs, Kathryn is just the instructor for you.
Robin
Katy is an excellent musician, a very talented soprano soloist, and a skilled pianist and lever harpist. I have never studied with her but I have played harp with her numerous times. Her musicianship is flawless and she has a wonderful sense of humor so our time together is always enjoyable. I highly recommend her as a teacher and as a caring person.
Damaris
Kathryn’s dedication to making sure I’m getting to practice not only what is necessary skills-wise, but also what interests me is invaluable. I really feel like she is genuinely interested in supporting me in my goal to play better. It’s also extremely helpful when she finds clever ways of explaining a new concept that I may not understand at first. Plus, I can tell she really knows what she’s talking about whenever I have a question. Highly recommend!

"Miss Alex is the best teacher ever!

Miss Alex is not only an amazing, patient, kind-heart, smart and trustworthy person but she is also one of the best musicians. She has a hands-on teaching style integrated with little bits of music theory. She is the best teacher I ever met. Most importantly, she treats her music and kids as part of her life not for money at all. She loves kids from bottom of her heart. I am so lucky to have her as my kids' teacher."

"Kristie is an exceptional teacher whom I would recommend to any serious student. I studied with her for a year, which turned out to be one of the most productive periods of instruction that I've had. Kristie is particularly gifted in identifying where attention is needed, explaining and demonstrating clearly what the goal is, and suggesting good practice ideas for achieving the goal. She does all of this in a very relaxed manner that serves to promote growth, rather than to increase tension.

Kristie is also a terrific musician with a deep grasp of interpretation and performance. Her resume speaks for itself. It was always a pleasure just to hear her when she would sit at the instrument to illustrate a point.

On top of it all, she's a great person to know. What more could one want in a teacher?"

"I chose Eleonora as my 11-year-old daughter's harp instructor, and we've been really pleased and enriched by the experience. Early on, my daughter experienced an affinity for this instrument, and I've been very impressed by Eleonora's technique and teaching style and how she helps cultivate my daughter's organic joy and interest in this beautiful instrument. Eleonora is excellent with children, explaining music ideas in a way a child can understand, digest, and incorporate. She meets my daughter where ever is needed and has a great sense for this. When my daughter was learning something new, she told Eleonora, "This is hard." Eleonora responded casually and authoritatively: "There is no hard, only new." This, and the emphasis on practice, really eased my daughter who likes to get everything right the first time and needs this kind of reframing and encouragement when experiencing a new challenge. As an artist myself, I really appreciate this approach and philosophy, but most importantly, I can see my daughter does, too. Whether you're an adult learning for the first time or you have a child who has interest, let your musical lives be enriched by this patient, knowledgeable instructor."
