I would highly recommend Jonathan as a music teacher. Jonathan is absolutely passionate about music, which is evident by his enthusiastic and energetic teaching techniques. He is very patient with my five year old and encourages her to get her very best effort. Jonathan customizes the music and lessons for my daughter’s skill level while at the same time provides challenges to keep the learning process interesting. In a short period of time, my daughter's keyboard playing abilities have dramatically increased. I am very grateful to Jonathan for making learning fun for my daughter, who always looks forward to her lessons!

Carla
Ms. Laverty has been my son’s private trumpet teacher since the summer of 2012. She is patient, kind and very supportive of his efforts in playing the trumpet. In large part, she is the reason that my son enjoys playing trumpet and continues to thrive as a musician.

From the beginning she tailored her lessons to include the music that my son was interested in and also added increasingly more complex music to work on and master.

Sandra has taped him playing during lessons to show him how and where he can improve in body position, quality of sound and other nuances. She regularly uses her laptop computer to show videos of performances that support the lesson and also assigns various Internet sites to view for exposure to other musicians and styles.

Sandra regularly provides opportunities for my son to perform in public. He has performed at the annual CMEA event at San Jose State University, and other smaller events where he played solo on stage. They have both joined in at a local café for practice in improvisation, as my son loves to play jazz. This has really helped in his jazz solo opportunities at school. She has also organized a quartet of student trumpet players to work together on various music pieces and then they all performed together for family and friends. This was a unique experience for the children to practice and play together and perform as a group.

My son is also interested in basketball and baseball, and Sandra has been very flexible in scheduling lessons to accommodate my son’s athletic and school schedules. After about 6 months of lessons, she offered twice a week lessons to capitalize on my son’s enthusiasm and increase the speed of musical advancement so his confidence soared and he wanted to play more because he liked doing something he felt he was good at. He kept this schedule for about a year and then back to once a week to allow for more time for other interests.

During middle school, my son played trumpet in both the Advanced Band and also Jazz Band classes. This past summer, Sandra again offered twice weekly lessons to get ready for his high school debut. As a result, he was chosen to play first chair in the high school jazz band. He was also one of only two freshmen that were accepted into the most advanced band class (also known at Wind Ensemble) at Lincoln High School.

I recommend Sandra Laverty, without reservation, for any trumpet teaching opportunity.

Sandra was very helpful with my 11 year old. She taught a good mix of theory and practical experience. She helped my daughter build skills and was very encouraging.

Have you hit a roadblock in your trumpet playing? Is your child not seeing progress from playing in their school band? Need help with your All-State audition? Picking up a hobby for the quarantine? Look no further!

My approach to the trumpet is one that starts with the sound of the music playing in my head. Once I can get you to hear beautiful trumpet sounds playing in your own head, you will find that playing the trumpet is as easy as blowing spit wads through a straw!

My students get a weekly dose of fundamentals that include long tones, flexibility, and articulation. Once those are in place, we can apply those skills learned to a musical etude. You can expect to cover as much material (or as little) as you want in a given week; I will pace your lessons according to your ability level and desire. But with the right amount of deliberate practice, I can help you become a truly great trumpeter.

Let's get this fired up!

Ruben has been teaching private lessons since 2014 and is currently available to teach lessons at your home, at his studio, and online. His students have gone on to audition into honor bands, and play solos for competitions and festivals. Ruben received his training at Western Oregon University

Ruben has been tutoring me for about 3 months now. I have been playing for seven years and I have never noticed a change in my playing with any other private Tutor. We started out with basics it was very boring at first but then we started getting into more advanced stuff. Ruben is a fantastic tutor hands down. He is super nice, understanding, and very helpful. Both me and my family have noticed a Dramatic difference in my playing and sound quality. If anyone is looking for someone to help them pick Ruben.
Bret C.
An excellent instructor who is truly dedicated to his craft. Ruben displays a sincere interest in the improvement of his students and is a very skilled musician as well.

"Week after week, Andrew always finds ways to deepen my knowledge of the trumpet and my own playing! Andrew is an incredible player as well as an incredible teacher, and his lessons make me realize concepts about the trumpet that I could have never even imagined! My playing has improved tremendously since I began taking lessons with him, and his lessons enable the learner to develop an awareness of the instrument as well as their own physicality while playing. Furthermore, Andrew takes great care to adjust each lesson in a way that is applicable and makes sense to each student he teaches. Knowing someone with such a passion for playing the trumpet and the fact the he loves to share that passion with others motivates me to improve and love the music that I play personally. Incredible experience!"

"I have known, performed with, and taught with Vincent for over thirty years. I am a professional trombonist and the Performing Arts Chair at Saddle River Day School. I ran an Arts-In-Education band that performed big band jazz at schools in the NYC area for over twelve years, and Vincent was a band member. Vincent is one of the world's greatest trumpet players and jazz improvisers, and he is an excellent communicator. I have watched Vincent teach countless times, and he loves working with young people and passing along his craft and experience. He has a very warm personality and a great sense of humor. I perform regularly with Vincent in a variety of world-class ensembles, and just standing next to him on the band-stand is like taking a lesson!"

"My teen daughter has had one lesson with Holly so far and we are both very impressed. Her initial lesson included a thorough evaluation so she knew just where my daughter was starting from, and progressed to an actual lesson. It was clear to me that my daughter learns easily from Holly's teaching style and I could hear her progress throughout the hour. Additionally, Holly has an upbeat, positive attitude that only added to my daughter's enjoyment. She's counting down the days until her next lesson."
