I've been teaching and performing professionally for over 10 years. I have my BA in music and business. I have had some amazing experiences along the way. I've worked with world renowned vocal coaches, sang at Carnegie Hall, and played on various cds to raise money/awareness for charity projects. I'm grateful for all of this, but I love working with students on their music most of all. It delights me to see a student have an "aha" moment where they realize that they have what it takes to be great. I'd love to work with you, but if I don't I hope you reach your goals and have fun doing it ! ~ Carrie Jo ~

I'm a laid back teacher but you will definitely learn
a lot. I just believe if it starts to not be fun, what's the point? Music isn't just about perfect theory and note placement it's about enjoyment. That's why I tailor make every lesson specifically based on my student's goals. I have students that like a more traditional approach so I use standard method books with them. I also have students that want to learn how to play by ear so we use a less traditional method and I teach them chord structures and how to move around easily on their instrument. My favorite thing to teach is vocal lessons but I love teaching piano and guitar also.
*** Studio Equipment ***

Professional, active musician will share the joy of playing music with the students. You can count on having fun, effective lessons, and real results fast!
I was born in Cracow, Poland. From an early age I had a deep interest in all types of music. I was encouraged by my parents and quickly developed a talent. I began my musical education at the age of seven studying piano. I studied at The Frederic Chopin Academy of music in Warsaw, Poland and then at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University where I received a Bachelor of Music Degree in French Horn performance. Later I received a Master of Music in French Horn Performance and post Master Certificate, both from the DePaul University. I am an active freelancing musician in the Chicago area. I have been teaching piano, music theory and French horn in the Chicago area for five years. I enjoy working with both children and adults.
To broaden my knowledge about teaching I completed courses: Studio Teaching as a Career, Teaching Excellence, and Brass concepts at DePaul University.
*** Lesson Details ***
Students will learn to play piano or horn in a pleasant atmosphere. Additionally they will learn elements of music theory so they can quickly start to play on their own. This will broaden their understanding of music and they will be able play pieces they like. I have method books and studies for any level of playing, but students are welcome to bring their own. I think anyone can learn to play and I can help to achieve this dream. I recommend the book by Daniel Coyle: The Talent Code. Greatness Isn't Born. It's Grown. Here's How.
*** Studio Equipment ***
DePaul University - regular pianos available rooms reserved
At Home Studio- Casio keyboard in living room, french horn,
seating for parents.
In case of horn students they would have to have their own mouthpiece and later on their own instrument. I have breathing equipment to help with playing as well.
*** Travel Equipment ***
My method of transportation would be CTA and walking :)
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in fun and effective teaching. I teach piano, french horn, music theory, ear training. Music is fun and this is how I teach.

She is incredibly patient with girls of all ages, and breaks down skater mechanics in a very clear and concise way. The kids love her and tell all of the other coaches all the time that she's their favorite. #nottakingitpersonally
We're so excited to have her as a coach in the Spring!

About Heather
I married my husband on June 28, 1997. We have four children. Our oldest daughter was born on August 15, 2001 and was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. I quit working to stay home and devote more time to her and her needs. In 2003 we had boy/girl twins and life took on a hectic business. As they grew older, I decided to homeschool my brood. We moved from Colorado to Indiana to be closer to my husband’s ailing mother and the slower pace of life has allowed me time to cultivate my interest in gardening, cooking, and sewing! In 2013, we traveled to China and adopted our second daughter with Down Syndrome.

I love helping students have that "ah-ha!" moment. I never thought I'd enjoy math, but earning a 4.0 in all my mathematics courses enabled me to find an interest in mathematical concepts. I'm currently a junior at Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Mi and am majoring in economics with a minor in international relations. I've been tutoring at my university since I first started there in both math and economics. While in high school, I was constantly tutoring elementary and middle school students around my area in math.

While corporate communication consists of verbal, listening, and written skills, the latter tops the list as rudimentary for most jobs. Good grammar and writing skills are more than just an ass … Read More
