Justin is a brilliant piano teacher. He is very engaging in his lessons and you can always be sure to learn and improve. Justin is flexible to both what you know and what you need improvement on and will quickly stretch to fortify your musical ability. He is never without a smile and never negatively criticizes. I would recommend him for any new students that are looking to learn or improve in piano.

Justin was very friendly and encouraging. We only had half an hour so we discussed the audition piece, warmed up, and focused on some of the trouble spots to see if the song I chose was right for my voice. If your looking for musical theatre assistance, he gives very good advice.

You'll learn about chords, chord structures, hand positions, scales, finger exercises, as well as different genres of music from classical to pop.

I've been playing piano for about 15 years. It's a very versatile instrument! Learning piano even opens the way to learning other instruments. It also helps with music theory (and you'll be learning some theory along the way, which will help your playing). The first lessons usually are spent learning notes, rhythms, hand positions, and even a few songs! As you progress, you'll start moving more fluently around the keyboard, playing chords, recognizing patterns, using the pedals, and even take on some songs you're personally interested in playing.

I'm not a strict teacher; I'd rather my students enjoy the learning process and have fun with their instrument. I teach every student a little differently based on their age, previous knowledge, goals, learning style, and personality. I encourage my students to practice thoughtfully - I ...

About Alison
***About Me***

I'm passionate about music and love sharing that through performance and teaching. As an active musician, I teach a full private lesson studio during the week and play gigs on the weekends. That's right, music is not just a "side-job" or a way to make a few "extra" bucks, it is actually my profession and I take teaching my students seriously. It is my goal to provide a solid foundation in music fundamentals while keeping students inspired as much as I can, especially because music can be tough sometimes!

I received my degree in viola performance from the University of Louisville School of Music in May 2010. I play violin, viola and piano regularly and have played them most of my life. On the weekends, I play viola in a string trio called Electria for weddings or events. We often play popular music on electric instrum
ents accompanied by backtracks. Playing popular music has expanded my knowledge and experience. Of course classical will always have a place! It is beautiful and timeless! But playing current music is also a lot of fun, and appeals to the modern student. There's room for all kinds of music and I embrace it all!

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm not a really strict teacher but I do encourage my students to push themselves and really make the most of their practice time, especially if they have busy schedules. I believe in customizing my teaching style to my student's needs and desires. I'm very positive and encouraging while never sacrificing constructive feedback.

***What to Expect***
After 3 months with a beginning Viola, Violin, or Piano student, I expect you to be able to read the notes (without having to write them all in), understand basic rhythms, have learned how to play a scale (or more), and have completed a few of songs.

After 6 months, I expect that my students will have relative ease with reading their music, playing with hands together on piano, and starting to master basic bowing techniques and coordination on Violin and Viola.

Learning an instrument is difficult, but so rewarding. With the right teacher it can be a wonderful experience, and that's my goal. I want music to be enjoyable, interesting, fun and enriching for my students. My style is encouraging, positive, and thoughtful... I try to teach in a way that is comprehensive and wholistic!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room, grand piano and an electric piano, room for parents to wait on a couch or chair, music stand, metronome

***What you should bring***
Sheet Music/Books
Rosin (for violin/viola students)

*** Specialties ***
I mainly focus on classical training, however I customize the teaching repertoire to incorporate my student's music tastes and interest. As I teach, I incorporate music theory so that my students may have a better understanding of how the music is structured because my goal is that they understand music from a wholistic perspective so that it can be enjoyed for a lifetime!

***Studio Policies***
I am flexible and easy to work with, however I am running a full private lesson studio and time is limited! I do require a 24-hour cancellation notice if you are unable to attend a lesson - as it does allow me to use that time to reschedule another student or optimize my time. If notice is given the day of your lesson, the lesson will be marked as "missed." With a day's notice, I will "cancel" the lesson and your lesson credit will not be used. You are welcome to reschedule your lesson to another available time during the week, however, the 24-hour notice still applies. I don't want to be unfair to you and I just ask the same of my students :)

Keep in mind, regular lessons really do make a difference in students' progress and enthusiasm, so I encourage you to keep a regular lesson schedule if possible!

What you learn becomes part of you & that's the key to success. Whether you're beginner, advanced, special needs, have a short term issue, long term issue or even damaged vocal chords, whatever your situation, Fawn can handle it all successfully :) Not just in voice, but also in any difficult musical area including songwriting, performance, recording, piano & more.

In Los Angeles, Fawn is the music and entertainment industry's coach known as the one who "gets the job done." Clients have included Grammy and Oscar winners as well as vocalists and actors from The Voice, American Idol, Disney, America's Got Talent, Nickelodeon, X-Factor an
d many others. She has been producing music and vocals in the recording studio, coaching voice, piano, songwriting, rap writing, performance, studio, jazz, blues, classical, pop and artist development for the past 20 years. She was operatically trained by Juilliard instructor Sylvia Bagley, trained as a jazz singer at world re-known Berklee College of Music, where she won several songwriting awards, and was R & B/Pop trained by Vocal Coach To The Stars, Seth Riggs. In 2010 she had a #6 Billboard hit dance song, which she wrote and sang and 2 top 10 hits in 2016. She has written, recorded and performed songs in several different languages for a variety of films, television shows, and commercials such as Nickelodeon's Hollywood Heights, The Natalee Holloway Story, Spike Lee Productions, Barbie, Ponds, Target, Ford, Mazda, Pontiac, The Guiding Light, The Young and The Restless. MTV and several others. Fawn has also sung, written and played in many different styles from Jazz/Blues to Classical to Pop to children's to Opera.

Fawn is a very fun, yet honest and straight-forward coach. She loves working with adults and children, and considers lessons a 'team effort to reach her students' goals. Being that music and the entertainment business are her career and life, she is current and relevant, yet has plenty of old school training to be well rounded and help students build a strong foundation. Music and the entertainment business are her life, and she loves helping people reach their goals and meet their dreams. She has released 5 albums, several singles, won numerous awards and worked with such talents as Grammy winners Lalah Hathaway and Paula Cole, Meredith Brooks, Vampire Diaries Kat Grahm, BT, Jeff Goldblum, Right Said Fred, Ed Townsend, QD3, Club Nuveau's Val Watson, Robbie Benson and shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Carol Channing, Kevin Sorbo, Pink, Joss Stone, David Guetta, Katy Perry, Moby, Dionne Warwick, James Torme', David Foster, Thelma Houston, David Pomeranz, War and countless others. Over the years, Fawn has been known to bring students into her inner circle, so they can gain more experience and exposure, taking them to red carpets, events and even putting them up onstage to perform. She remembers having piano, voice and songwriting coaches, and being frustrated in voice because instructors were not addressing issues that needed to be addressed. This is why she creates a positive and comfortable, safe environment so students can open up and progress quickly. Fawn moves straight to the heart of the matter and gets whatever needs work figured out, so students can move on to what their goals and dreams are. She has helped actors be able to sing parts for their TV shows, helped popular bands be able to have good stage performances and presence with precision dancing and singing and has helped vocalists find their true voice. She is able to get piano students as young as 5 to a high-level Concerto level of playing with in 3 years, completely reading the pieces on their own. She has worked with special needs children with Downs Syndrome, ADHD, ADD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Pit Hopkins Disease and more. As far as being a songwriter, Fawn generally writes words and music at the same time but she has also written lyrics and music separately, as well as composed instrumental pieces. Having a strong musical background (20+ years), I was stoked when my boyfriend told me he wanted to improve his piano playing. Let me rephrase that--LEARN how to play piano. He had bought a piano three years earlier and never played it.

He had NO natural musically ability, barely being able to hold a beat let alone understand time and key.

He started lessons in Berkeley for three months and didn't seem to improve, then we found Fawn and signed up for lessons, even though I was skeptical about it being online. Within a month of playing, he was understanding the foundation of music, improv, ect., and Fawn REALLY pushed him. 15 months later he has a solid playing and reading ability, even though his work only allows him 1-2 hours a week of practice. Fawn is teaching both the fundamentals plus improve, scales, etc. that really push him to be a better piano player. She encourages him to chose pieces he loves as well. Soon they will start songwriting. I am thoroughly impressed.

Andrew has been an amazing piano instructor for my 6 year old son. My son is so comfortable that he acts a bit silly at times and have to remind him that this is a lesson. He is familiar with other instruments too which makes it really fun for kids. Currently he plays the ukulele while my son plays the piano and he absolutely loves it. Outside of his obvious skill, he is probably one of the most patient instructor I know. Maybe that's why my son loves him so much :) Definitely recommend him if you want your child to start enjoying music.

Hello!

I am so happy you are interested in learning to play the piano!!

I aim to teach my students more than just the songs - technique and finding your OWN artistry is very important to me as a teacher!

About Autumn
Hello, my name is Autumn Renae!

I teach both Sewing/Design and Beginner Piano - two passions of mine that I absolutely adore!

For me as a teacher, I want my students to know the correct way of doing things but I also put a heavy emphasis on the student finding their own artistry!

Experienced teacher of 5 years with 15 years professional music experience. Learn to play your favorite songs, and also learn what makes those songs work so well. Students will learn the basics of melody & harmony, along with rudimentary finger movement & reading. Cater to every student's individual strengths, needs, and goals, regardless of age or experience. Every student receives personalized lesson plans in a laid-back learning environment. Specializes in beginner & intermediate students, as well as advanced theory lessons for seasoned players. Let's get you on the right path towards true musicianship!

About Jesse
I'm a professional percussionist, pianist, and recording artist born and raised in Woodbridge, VA. I have 15 years of professional music experience, ranging from touring/session work to marching band composition. My life as a musician imbued a unique outlook and philosophy on musicianship and how we learn to play. I pride myself on my personalized approach to each individual student, allowing them to create in a fun, relaxed learning environment.

I have students of all ages, beginner to expert. I work very well with young students, as well as students with special needs. As a teacher and a musician, I firmly believe that music is meant to be a fun and creative exercise. We must invent, reshape, and redefine the standards. I teach students to understand the fundamentals behind their instrument, recognize patterns, and manipulate these bui
lding blocks to create something new. Everyone has different goals and expectations, and my lessons are framed to set any individual along the path to mastery.

As a drum teacher, I teach fundamental concepts like basic hand techniques, counting, introductory rudiments, and more. For more experienced players, I can teach concepts ranging from Latin groove to songwriting as a percussionist to advanced improvisational techniques. I hold the belief that a drummer must be a musician first, so music appreciation is a primary point of learning for all my students. Whether you're just picking up the sticks or you've been playing for years, I'll always be able to unearth new creative potential.

For my piano students, I again work well with students of all levels of experience. Beginners and intermediate students can expect to build a foundation of solid hand fundamentals, music reading & writing, musical comprehension, and a basic understanding of music theory. More experienced players will explore advanced musical concepts, such as composition, advanced chord structure, modal theory, and more. As with my drum students, piano students should expect a relaxed learning environment.

I currently handle a roster of 50+ students and multiple bands. When I'm not teaching, I'm playing with local Virginia outfits Roraima, Model Trains, & Walkabout. I've toured for Be Still Cody, Funeral Advantage, and Cocoba. I specialize in funk, R&B, experimental, and punk rock.

I had the opportunity to observe Jesse Harman's musicianship first hand 2 years ago. They were performing with a group in the Port Huron, a town in Michigan. Harman not only showed great professionalism in their craft but brought an amazing sense of fun and creativity while performing. Off stage, they handled their equipment very meticulously and with utmost care. To summarize what we have here, it is a devoted musician, who has not only mastered their art(and continues to develop said abilities) but as an added bonus, was a very kind individual and all around swell human being.

I haven't had the privelege of taking an official lesson from Jesse, but as their classmate and friend, I've learned a lot through osmosis. I've concluded that Jesse's talent is immeasurable, as I've seen through their many performances as a marching and concert percussionist, pianist, pop/rock/prog drummer, etc. They are not defined or confined by any particular style or genre. They do it all.
Beyond Jesse's immense talent is an even greater work ethic. They work hard to maintain and improve upon their talent, but they are also one of the most approachable and relaxed people I've met.
I've seen performances of bands Jesse has coached, and it's clear that not only are their kids technically proficient, but they have great confidence in themselves, too.
Jesse always leaves me inspired to become a become a better musician, solely through performance. I imagine the difference is that a real lesson will actually make you a better musician.

Instead of drilling and memorizing, I believe that music should be taught through living it and a desire to improve. I will teach what the student wants to learn and listen to their thoughts and opinions on lessons.

About John
I am a current student at the University of Louisville, majoring in Music Education with the intent of becoming a band director. I have been playing piano for 14 years and have been playing trumpet for 10. I have posted my services here in hopes of being able to inspire other musicians to love music and everything about it as much as I have. I aim to teach students what they want to learn while also teaching some fundamentals and theory in a fun and enjoyable manner.
