About Viola Rose
Hi there. my name is Viola. I am 49 years old. I have been playing Handpan (hangdrum) for 6 years. I have played hand drums and percussion instruments for 26 years. and am now offering handpan, hangdrum Ravdrum and hand drum lessons for beginning and intermediate players. for online lessons you would need to have your own handpan or drum . but for in-person lessons in Southeast portland Oregon, you would NOT need to have your own handpan or hand drums as you can use mine. I am joyful and super inspired by the Handpan and playing drums. I also offer vocal training for those wanting to "find their voice" and to learn to sing from their heart center and embody their voice. this is a very non-traditional style of vocal coaching, its more intuitive and heart based. I have been singing my whole life in solo projects and in Bands. you ca
n find my CD "veils of Twilight" online. I only offer one hour lessons in person. for online lessons I am willing to do half hour lessons as well,
I have had few lessons for Handpan online with her and my experience has been amazing. She has a good knowledge of the instrument. I would recommend her to others.

She is a wonderful instructor. She has a very calm and soothing presence even miles away. I am a beginner and I find her to be very patient. She clearly is talented both in terms of playing the instrument as well as in the art of instruction. I highly recommend her!
The Steel Pan is such a beautiful, and fun instrument! It is also one of the most logically set up instruments and makes a great tool for learning about music in general. *Note* I only play tenor and tenor bass pans. I am unqualified to teach double seconds, or other types of pan.
Learning to play an instrument is a mixture of a lot of fun, and a lot of hard work. My strength is finding what will inspire my students to WANT to put in those difficult hours of practice, and then showing them how to apply what they have learned in a creative way, so that they experience the fun that music is supposed to be.
I help my students set - and reach - achievable goals. Learning this skill teaches them self esteem and also helps them discover their own learning style - a valuable tool, even if they do not pursue a career in music! I am gentle, but honest when a student arrives for a lesson unprepared, and am equally honest and enthusiastic when they demonstrate that they have put forth the effort to succeed.
I am not accepting many students, so that I can keep my schedule very performance heavy. This makes me a bet
ter teacher, and means that I only retain students who really want to progress.
I have been a drummer/percussionist in the Indianapolis music scene for nearly forty years. I regularly perform with the top players in many different genres and have played and recorded in a wide variety of venues and musical situations. In addition to playing my first instrument: the drum set. I also perform on various instruments, including: steel pan, vibraphone, and congas. I have extensive experience as a teacher beginning 30 years ago teaching at IRC music and Carmel Music Center.
My music education followed the classic route of mentoring under a local expert while working professionally. I studied for 16 years with Charles Mastropaolo (drummer for the Ed Sullivan show, and local jazz great) and was trained by him in improvisation, rudimental drumming, score reading/interpretation, Latin drumming, vibraphone, and performing all styles on the drum set. I have also been a member of the vibraphone workshop online teaching community for nine years. As a member, I have been able to further my education on all mallet instruments by online lessons with some of the top vibraphone players in the world. I look forward to working with you!
Amazing, patient really informative instructor and just a great guy. Highly recommend.

Mike was really the best instructor I could have asked for. Knowledgeable, patient, and best of all, chill when he needed to be. I was just picking up the drums for a high school band I was in at the time, and he was more than willing to help me learn whatever dumb song me or my band had decided sounded cool at the time. At the same time, he showed me a lot of really excellent practice techniques, directed me to some solid literature for different rhythms to work on, and would sit with me through a whole hour of my relentless mistakes like it was nothing. More than a good instructor, he's a really cool guy! He never missed a beat!

Mike brings it all to the lesson...musicianship,
decades of experience, versatility and creativity.

My 11 year old son has been taking lessons from Holly for 2 years now. Holly is patient and works with him on his level. A very comfortable, supportive environment. Very good notes and the other students are nice!
10+ years of teaching. Lead / Tenor Steel Drums. I teach all genres, especially Jazz, American folk / world music (Brazil, Trinidad, Cameroon), and Classical percussion. I'm primarily a jazz drummer and I bring all my performance, business, and practice experience to my students to help them achieve their musical goals. We focus on strengthening the fundamentals, (time, sound, AND the feeling of your groove). I'm honest and frank in lessons. I hope my genuine passion for teaching inspires that openness in my studio. My students have been selected for Jazz at Lincoln Center Middle and High School Jazz Academy, Manhattan School of Music pre-college and summer camp, and Columbia University’s jazz ensembles.
I’m Ben of BZ Drum Studio. I’m a professional drummer and educator. I’ve performed around the world, in Japan, China, South America, Europe, Canada, and across the US having worked with some incredible jazz musicians (Randy Weston, Johnny O’Neal, Larry Ridley, David Williams, Roy Hargrove, Joel Press, Cecil Bridgewater, Deborah Davis, Joe Cohn, Jerry Dodgion, and Steve Nelson).
I specialize in jazz but play and teach many genres on both drum set and percussion. I’m fascinated by the many drumming traditions around the world, New Orleans, Brazil, West/Central Africa, European Classical, Klezmer, Cuba, American Jazz, Folk, and Rock and Roll.
I have a B.M. and M.M. from Manhattan School of Music and have 10+ years of private teaching experience. I’ve taught percussion classes at public, private, and charter schools and also have cond
ucted jazz masterclasses at various universities around the country. My students have been regularly chosen for prestigious ensembles such as Jazz at Lincoln Center’s student ensembles, Manhattan School of Music pre-college and summer camp, and Columbia University’s jazz ensembles.
In lessons we focus on strengthening the fundamentals (time, sound, groove feeling) while also working on creativity and drum set language. I have a passion for teaching my students. Lessons are usually generously extended over the allotted time, and I take each student’s goals into account when tailoring the individual lesson curriculums.
I owe Ben a lot. I spent about a month taking lessons with Ben to prep for an audition for a university jazz program (I had zero experience playing jazz before this). Ben was one of the best music teachers I have ever had: he managed to get me prepared for my audition in just a few short weeks (I got into the program and had an incredible experience), and, perhaps more importantly, he taught me basic principles about jazz and jazz drumming that I think about constantly - not only when I am playing, but when I’m listening to jazz (which is most of the day, thanks to all the great recommendations from Ben). Ben is also an awesome dude, and has been described to me by random jazz dudes at FatCat as one of the “best drummers in New York right now.” If you’re looking for a drum teacher, Ben is without a doubt the best choice out there.

Ben is a talented drummer and an excellent educator: he really helped me improve as a musician. I highly recommend studying with him.
I am a professional steel pan player born in the islands of Trinidad & Tobago where the steel-pan was invented i have my own steel -pan entertainment company and has been playing for over 45 years i started at the age of eight.
I have thought countless of young and old people how to play the steel drum/steel pan my latest development for teaching is an app called steel pan tutor. my student will receive a free version of this app in their first class. i will not only teach you how to play but how to perform and move people with your performances .. I teach all steel drums from Tenor to Bass.
I have performed in places like Carnegie Hall .The Apollo. Ny London, Paris and various houses of Worship. If you are looking for experience Sterling is here! Thanks in advance and all the best with your choice.
Sterling is a professional steel pan player from the islands of Trinidad & Tobago was born in a family of musician and steel pan manufacturers, whom we call the tuners in our country. From the day his uncle Oscar Haynes took him to the pan yard at eight years old, he fell madly in love with the instrument- the steel pan. By the age of 11 years, he was already playing songs from just hearing them. While all the other boys were playing soccer and partying, Sterling was finding old steel-drums that were discarded by his Uncle Birth Morris. Fixing and tuning the drums, and arranging Christmas songs for himself and his cousins to play.
Sterling started playing for the folks in the neighborhood in exchange for a tip of a dollar or a quarter. It was then that he realized that he was gifted with the talent to teach and play this lovely inst
rument. Sterling joined his family band, the Windside steel orchestra, comprised of his cousins and uncle where he learnt to play all the folk songs of the West Indies like yellow bird and island in the sun just to name a few. He also spent three years with the Amoco Renegades steel orchestra from 1978 to 1980. He later joined a most prestigious band, the W.I.T.C.O Desperadoes steel orchestra, known as the finest steel orchestra in the world.
He toured with the band for a decade, which included trips to England, the U.S.A which including two trips to Carnegie Hall and to other West Indian Islands. During his time with the band, they won five national championships. he was elected vice captain of the band two years before he migrated to the U.S.A in 1992, where he continued playing and teaching with the New York chapter of Desperadoes steel orchestra. Sterling was very instrumental as drill master in leading this band to a record six straight West Indian day/labor day/ pan competitions victories. after hearing the call of God in his life sterling left steel-drums competition. and formed his own company to play and teach the steel drums....he is a professional entertainer and has created a steel pan app for students worldwide
I have been taking lessons with Sterling and it has been a great learning experience as well as a great learning atmosphere. I was skeptical at first trying to learn online, but after having some classes with him, my concerns have been erased and now I am actually learning to play the steel pan. Great teacher, patient and kind.

I feel honored to take lessons from someone who actually played for many years with one of the top steelbands in Trinidad, WITCO Desperadoes. Since I was a beginner, Sterling started with the fundamentals such as identifying the notes on the tenor pan, proper posture, and "sticking" techniques. I progressed to learning and practicing scales, to identifying the Key Signature of a song. He is a patient, gifted musician, who loves sharing his passion for this beautiful instrument.
