Read my REVIEWS!! I specialize in working with beginners and teach foundation skills for using a sewing machine, following a pattern, handwork and finishing.

I can help you make curtains, pillows, bags, aprons and other household items. If you want to make clothing, I will guide you through using a published pattern.

I have been sewing for over 30 years and was making my own clothes by the time I was in second grade. My lessons are not like reality TV. Projects take longer than you may think they will. I will work with you to properly construct a quality finished project.

Please note, I do not teach pattern making, draping and advanced tailoring. My experience with serger/marrow machines is limited.

Recommend duration for in-person lessons is 90 minutes.

About Kim
For creative people and makers, crafting is like going to the gym. You will find great fulfillment and a sense of accomplishment if you set aside time on a regular basis to nurture this very important part of what makes you who you are. Think of me like a personal trainer. I will encourage and inspire you while you develop your skills and express yourself through a variety of textile based media.

Private and group lessons or classes are provided in locations around the NYC area, in my space or via webcam. My focus is on providing an entertaining, relaxing and enjoyable experience as you learn a leisure time activity. I am extremely patient and detail oriented. When you let me know what you would like to learn or make, I will guide you through everything from selecting materials to fine tuning your technique. Take a lesson with me to fi
nd out why my students love me.

Teaching is a wonderful extension of my work as a professional crochet and knit designer and technical editor. A web search will reveal some of my published work over the last decade. As a craft teacher in the NYC area for over 8 years, I have worked with individuals, groups and classes of all ages and skill levels. Most of my experience focuses on working with older adults and people with special needs. Minors must have a supervising adult present. I do not work with groups of young children.

I have studied the history and mastered the skills to make and teach a vast variety of textile techniques. Please see my experience.

If you are using this site without the assistance of a TL Rep, I recommend the schedule as you go option. I often have openings in my calendar sooner than the site allows. After we make contact, we can choose the best date and time.

*** Lesson Details ***
Please let me know what you would like to learn or make before your lesson so that we may be fully prepared with any materials, tools, equipment, books or handouts. Students are expected to provide all their own tools and materials unless other arrangements are made.

Recommended duration for in-person lessons is 90 minutes. A surcharge may be added for travel outside of areas accessible by one MTA fare or expected travel time exceeding 90 minutes.

*** Specialties ***
Textile based crafts including crochet, knitting, embroidery, sewing, patchwork, plastic canvas, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, bobbin lace, historic textile and costume conservation and storage, and more.

I also love to research and develop craft projects for classes or master techniques students would like to learn.

I've been sewing my clothes since 13. I was supporting myself during my years in Art Institute by sewing for clients. After graduating I partnered with SBA Concern and my designs were produced commercially. In 1994 I got award for pachwork design from French magazine "Modes & Travauch". I can teach how to sew from table runner to coat and beyond.

About Dovile
I began teaching while studying in Art Institute. My first students were 5 to 7 yr. old kids. It was very challenging, but also very rewarding. I was teaching them skills, they were teaching me patience. Later the age of my students grew, until I ended up teaching the same students I was in the same classes just 6 months ago. Again another challenge. I love challenges and even more I love helping others to overcome them.
My philosophy about teaching is that everybody can learn, it is only the way how we learn is different for different people. Another very important thing - I strive to be creative, respectful and approachable.

I love to sew and greatly enjoy teaching the craft. I have been sewing since I was 7 years old, when I was taught by my Grandmother. A FIDM Fashion Design graduate, I worked in the garment industry as a pattern maker and junior dress designer. I then went on to work for 14 years in the Motion Picture industry in costume design and stylist work.

I enjoy working with children, guiding them to use their creativity in the process of sewing. Lessons can be tailored to the students needs, from learning how to use the sewing machine to the best way to approach sewing different fabrics and patterns. From fashion to interior design, I am happy to guide you to a finished product.

About Renee
I grew up in Los Angeles surrounded by a family of artists and designers. Following my career in fashion and costume design, I began making one of a kind silver jewelry. I have been working with fine silver for 8 years, selling my design pieces in art galleries and online.
I have always tried to share my passion for all things artistic with my two children. By volunteering to run art projects at their school, I discovered the joy of teaching. I decided to combine that with my sewing expertise to help children and adults realize their creative vision. I like helping students explore their ideas while making a project come to life on the sewing machine.

I've been teaching sewing and patternmaking for less than a year. However I found it very rewarding to see my students grow and eventually finish a project on their own without my help. After years working in fashion industry in NYC, I feel the desire to share and pass on my skills to the people who have great passion either in design or sewing but lack of the skills. I have verity of teaching material. It all depends on what you need and what you want to achieve.

About Vena
My name is Vena. I'm a fashion designer, tailor, sewer, enthusiastic craft lover. I had worked at major fashion brands in NYC for more than 7 years with a fashion design degree from Parsons. My specialty is in sewing, patternmaking, draping, tailoring and fitting. I have a great passion in teaching and extremely patient. I provide the best quality and hands on sewing skills that we use in the industry. If you would like to learn how to draft a pattern from scratch to make your own clothes or alter your clothes that fit you, I will show you how to achieve that. The courses will design and cater to your needs. I look forward to having a great sewing time with you.

Had my first lesson today and Vena showed me many tips on how to lay out the pattern properly on the fabric and reviewed what the pattern symbols mean. I learned things I never knew and, as we went along, she gave me the reasons why things are done a certain way which is good so it'll make sense and I won't be as likely to forget them. I'm very happy and can't wait for Lesson 2.

I have been teaching small group classes of children between the ages of 5 and 13 since 2010. My favorite memory from my earliest class was when my 10 year old student went home and adjusted her mother's sewing machine to sew properly! I have taught classes from very basic sewing machine skills to machine quilting.

About Angela
I learned to crochet in grade school, taught myself to knit and learned to sew from my mother at a very early age. Teaching grade school children/students is my passion. I believe learning to knit and sew can help students learn a level of patience and persistence that will help them in their school work.
In October, I retook and passed the NCLEX, and I have restored my nursing license to active status. I would love to tutor nursing students of all levels. My professional background is in Pediatrics - especially Pediatric Critical Care. I'm especially passionate about helping nursing students that need help with basic math/algebra.

Angela is awesome! She is kind, patient, organized, gives clear instructions and very easy to work with. My dogs barked the entire time and my home is less than white-glove clean; but she puts you at ease and you never feel talked down too or judged in any way. You will not be sorry for choosing her as your teacher.
