About Carrie
*****I don't have a current background check through take lessons but have an active ongoing background check through another employer ******

I've been teaching and performing professionally for over 15 years. I have my BA in music and business. I have had some amazing experiences along the way. I've worked with world renowned vocal coaches, sang at Carnegie Hall, and played on various cds to raise money/awareness for charity projects. I'm grateful for all of this, but I love working with students on their music most of all. It delights me to see a student have an "aha" moment where they realize that they have what it takes to be great. I'd love to work with you, but if I don't I hope you reach your goals and have fun doing it ! ~ Carrie Jo ~

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a laid back teacher but you will definitely learn
a lot. I just believe if it starts to not be fun, what's the point? Music isn't just about perfect theory and note placement it's about enjoyment. That's why I tailor make every lesson specifically based on my student's goals. I have students that like a more traditional approach so I use standard method books with them. I also have students that want to learn how to play by ear so we use a less traditional method and I teach them chord structures and how to move around easily on their instrument. My favorite thing to teach is vocal lessons but I love teaching piano and guitar also.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught on an upright piano or acoustic/electric guitar. Student should bring own guitar. No pets. Waiting room out front for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They need their own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
I've performed at Carnegie Hall and I've had the opportunity to work with world renowned vocal coaches. I offer that as well as techniques that I've developed to help you reach your goals quickly and with great skill !

Carrie is great! She is very patient, positive and encouraging. We have three members of our household taking lessons from her, and she tailors the lessons for the individual goals, levels and interests of each of us.

About Dr. Alan
I am a recently retired university professor with 37 years' teaching and research experience in organic and bio-organic chemistry at two major U. S. State universities. During the past 18 years I have served as an MCAT content contributor by providing "units" (passages + questions based on passage content) to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the agency that produces and administers MCAT. I currently tutor students worldwide by using interactive Skype and Google Hangouts with screen sharing. The screen sharing feature permits chemical structures, formulas and reaction mechanisms to be drawn onscreen in real time during tutorial sessions. All visual materials produced in this manner are saved as jpg files and sent to students as email attachments at the conclusion of each tutorial session. In addition to one-on-one tutor
ing, Students are provided with study and review materials, practice problems and sample exam questions that I know from experience are likely to appear on midterm and final examinations.

I was getting really discouraged with MCAT studying and practice, so I decided to contact Dr. Alan.
He is extremely knowledgeable in general chemistry, organic chemistry and biochem. He also knows how the MCAT exam is designed and written. He is a great source of information.
Furthermore, he prioritizes making sure his students understand why certain answers are wrong or right. He is very detail oriented and really wants his students to understand the material.
Dr. Alan tutored me online, and shared his screen with me while working out chemical reactions and problems. He then saved all of that work and emailed it to me, so I could refer to it later.
Dr. Alan definitely tries to provide his students with the resources to succeed. He sends his students extra practice as well as power points and tutorials on information that he knows is tested on the MCAT.
I am very glad I contacted Dr. Alan, because he is a very dedicated caring teacher, and he really wants his students to do well. I would recommend him to anyone who needs some guidance on the MCAT!

I took tutorials on general chemistry with Dr. Alan for one term. He always went extra miles to make sure that I was prepared for my tutorial sessions by sending me enrichment materials on topics that were covered in my class beforehand. He accommodated my learning style and was able to provide supplemental lectures as I requested, which I appreciate tremendously. He was also always very prompt in responding to my emails. He doesn't always provide direct answers when you ask questions, but provides guidance in a way that makes you think -I believe this is essential in learning. I would recommend tutorials with Dr. Alan if you are keen on learning and truly want to comprehend your subjects of interest well.

As a non-traditional student I was struggling with Gen Chem 2 early in the semester because I didn't have the fresh skillset my peers possessed from only being out of high school chemistry for a year or less. Dr. Alan helped simplify complex concepts which brought me up to speed and made sense of the fray, allowing me to go from a 70 at the the beginning of the semester to a high A by the end of the semester.

About Reina
Due to my busy and irregular schedule, I am currently accepting schedule-as-you-go students only. As spaces become available I will offer weekly lesson spots to students who show dedication and motivation to progress further in their skill set.

Whether you are a weekly student or schedule-as-you-go, in your lessons we can work on beginning vocal technique, increasing vocal range, audition prep, songwriting, breath control, performance, ear training, music theory, sight reading, and more.

***I ALSO TEACH A VARIETY OF GROUP CLASSES EACH WEEK THROUGH TAKELESSONS LIVE.

Below is a list of FAQ's - if you have further questions beyond what is listed feel free to contact me through the Ask a Question feature on my profile.

Where can I take voice lessons?
Currently, lessons are available online.

What will I learn in my lessons?

You will learn how to care for, and properly play your instrument. We will start with basic exercises and drills, and move into more advanced techniques as you progress in your skill sets.

What if I'm a beginner?
Totally fine! I teach all levels beginning through professional. The voice is an instrument just like any other instrument and must be learned in the same manner, from the beginning!

Can I try the first class Free?
No, but you will get a FREE lesson on your birthday (must have taken lessons for at least 6-months)

What is your teaching style?
You are your voice, and in order for me to properly teach, you have to trust me. We will build a rapport as you grow your instrument in confidence, strength, and flexibility.

Are there added bonuses to taking singing lessons?!
Yes! Proper breathing is a guaranteed ab workout, singing can improve your speaking voice, and you'll have a better sense of self-understanding by learning how to better control your instrument. Not to mention all the unplanned karaoke you can take part in!

A little more about the teacher: Reina Mystique
I am a singer/songwriter, voice coach, actress, voice-over artist, mom, wife, and friend. I've battled with confidence in singing, and stage fright and lived to tell about it. I have helped hundreds of artists find their voice. Find out more about me online by visiting my website, following me on social media, or streaming my music on Spotify/iTunes

About Sara
Hi! My name is Sara and I just graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo. I now live in Texas as a photographer while my husband attends medical school. I love learning and getting to experience lots of different things! When I worked at BYU as a Peer Mentor, I met one-on-one with first year college students to assist them in developing time management skills, effective study strategies, and test-prep skills. Before that I worked at a daycare for a year where I ran a homework club for elementary school students. I've also assisted in creating and carrying out a homeschool curriculum for my 4 special needs siblings over the last few years and currently teach a Sunday School class of 3 years-olds at my church - some of which also have special needs. I genuinely enjoy spending time with and meeting new people and I'm excited to get to
know each of you!
