I graduated with a degree in music performance in 2019, and have over 13 years of playing experience and 5 years of teaching experience (ranging from student as young as 5 years old). Outside of music, I am a medical student (M.D.). I enjoy using music as an outlet and teach trumpet lessons because it is my passion!

As a teacher, my goal is to help not only facilitate musical interpretation and technical skills on the trumpet but also help foster a student's life-long love for music. I believe that students should not only progress technically but foster a sense of who they are as performers, regardless of their level.

As a performer, I have played in symphony orchestras, in the pit for musicals such as Pippin, Into the Woods, and The Music Man, and private gigs. I've received training in performance anxiety and overcoming fear of public performance and would be happy to discuss techniques.

About Moriah

I offer individualized lessons and am passionate about helping students' achieve their goals!. I try to provide affordable lesson prices so that financial concerns never inhibit students' ability to progress and reach their potential! Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

I was pretty nervous at first, more uncomfortable than nervous I suppose, but Vandi was quick to put me at ease and as we started working through different exercises and ideas I became more comfortable and got more out of my time with her. She's super nice and has a natural warmth about her that is welcoming and encouraging. .

Students will be taught how to play using both 2 mallets and then move to 4. We will go over different exercises, scales, and solos to help them progress.

About Alex

Alex was born May 31, 1987. Since both of his parents were band directors, he grew up in a very musically inclined family. When he was 15 years old, during his freshman year of high school, he started studying percussion. A year later he began studying under Chad Kohler and continued to do so until

I will start off class by doing vocal warm-ups with students and asking them about their practice that week and what they found easy or difficult about the vocal piece we are working on. I will tweak warm-ups to work on the areas they found difficult. We will then check in with our posture and do physical warm-ups to find any areas where we may be holding tension that could impact our vocal performance. We will talk about the proper way to breathe (lower belly) and to avoid constricting or straining our airways in sound productions. Then, I'll have them sing the song through once for me and I will give them notes on each section, demonstrating what they should do to improve that area. Comments can include things about rhythm, pitch, intonation, diction, breath support, delivery, vocal health, placement, and volume control.

I will also work with the students to help them self-identify problems going forward by asking them what they did well and what they can improve upon so that ...

Students can expect that they will improve with me if diligent and focuses practice is put in every day. I will recommend books and tools to help them improve, as well as fundamental warm-ups and daily practice exercises designed to help them progress as quickly as they can (provided they are done correctly!).

The trombone has a wonderful sound, but there is a bit of a learning curve due to the slide (even though making that glissando/slide sound is a ton of fun). I am dedicated to work with my students to help them navigate the challenges that come from not having valves like the other brass instruments so they can really make the trombone sing!

Whether you are just looking to learn a new skill or make a living as a professional, I am passionate about helping my students to find their path in life as music makers. "I have been taking lessons from Jonathan for 6 months and it has been a tremendously enjoyable experience. Jonathan has an excellent methodology to teaching music which is a mixture of technical exercises and application of the theory to learning how to make music. The dual approach allows me to not only understand and appreciate the theoretical and technical aspects of learning the instrument, but also gives me the sense of fun and satisfaction that comes with applying what I learn and seeing the output in a piece of music. Jonathan is extremely knowledgeable about the technical aspects of the instrument and can break this knowledge down for easy elucidation. Overall it has been great learning experience."
