Hand drumming is so much more than just beating a drum. There is an essence about it that speaks through your soul. Lessons with me will be a unique experience because along with learning the basic fundamentals of hand drumming, but we will learn how to listen to those around us in order to have an all encompassing experience. It will be light, fun, informative, and we will go at whatever pace feels good for you, the student! I've been around drumming and drum circles for over ten years now and have come to have a very individual, impactful style for those around me. I look forward to sharing what I know!

I teach the basics of drumming (technique, rudiments, four-way coordination and limb independence) as well as any and all styles related to drum set including rock, jazz, funk, hip-hop, country, Latin and much more. Hello Students,
I have been playing most of my life. I started playing professionally at 17, playing with a number of professional bands playing all over Michigan. I have been teaching drum students since the age of 19, teaching well over 500 students to date.

Teaching students has been one of my passions with music. I hope to motivate my students to learn to play and love the drums as much as I do.

I work with each student on an individual basis to help them learn and understand drumming technique using books and techniques that will help to develop instinctive skills and ear technique.

I work with snare drum / rudimental technique with all my students and drum set technique, as most students want to learn how to play a drum set. Many of my students are in school band learning snare drum and percussion technique. Basic snare drum technique is important for any student to master and understand to learn to apply to snare drum and drum set technique.

Building a solid

I have 17 years experience performing drum set, hand drums, mallets and many other percussion instruments. I received a Bachelor's in Music for Percussion Performance and Music Education from the Sacramento State School of Music and I received my Master's in Music for Percussion Performance from the University of Nevada, Reno. I have experience teaching in public schools (high school and middle school levels), the collegiate level, music camps, and I have maintained a private studio for over two years. I have a method of teaching based on what you want to learn while also going over technique, posture, musicianship and music theory. My teaching is based entirely on the student as many people have different ways of learning so I do my best to make myself clear. My goal is to make lessons fun and informative, so let's enjoy the journey of making music!

Hi! My name is T.J. and I am a professional drummer and educator currently living in Forest Park, IL. I received my B.A. in Jazz Studies from Elmhurst College in the Spring of 2019. I have been playing professionally in Chicago and it's surrounding suburbs for over five years now, and have played the drum set for 13 years.

I am very passionate about my craft, and absolutely love spreading that knowledge with others and inspiring them to the best of my ability. I am well versed in many styles, including Rock, Jazz,, Fusion, Funk, World Music, and Classical Percussion.

I am active in many bands, such as Instrumental Rock/Fusion band Elysian Green and Folk/Rock band Fleeting Suns (check either out on spotify!) I've been lucky enough to record and share the stage with famous Chicago musicians, such as Chris Siebold, Mark Colby, Frank Caruso, Jeremy Khan, and Marlene Rosenberg, among others.
