About Chrissy

Originally born in Germany, Chrissy developed a passion for music, language and teaching early on. Right out of High School she helped her mother, who was an educator at that time, write and stage-manage a children's Musical which found great response from the audience. During her Music studies in the Netherlands she was offered an internship at the local Music School which she gratefully accepted and where she enjoyed her first voice coaching experience. There she was also nominated as one of the most promising young singer/songwriters at the LUX Festival in Nijmegen. Over the years she was blessed with more and more private students in voice as well as piano. During her stay in New York she received the opportunity to work with a Broadway show ensemble ("Dreamgirls") as a Music Director on their different harmonic parts. She's proudly b

een a member of the Music of Oz Studio staff in Crown Point, Indiana since Jan. 2011 and is looking forward to teaching out of her home now as well. Chrissy is crazy about all her students and wants them to succeed! She's very much looking forward to working with you and having buckets of fun! :-)

Andrew is such a great teacher! I'm a beginner guitar player who wanted to learn some of the basics and work on my technique, and Andrew was so patient and really took the time to work with me. Very easy-going and helpful, even though I know I'm not the best player. He clearly knows what he's doing when it comes to anything guitar-related and I cannot wait to set up another lesson. I already feel more confident in my abilities! Thanks Andrew!

As an older guy who loves music but sounded like a squeeze toy when trying to sing, I had always believed I could not learn to sing but part of me wanted to try. I was nervous to sing even a single note in front of anyone and I was worried any vocal teacher would kindly decline to take me as a student once they heard what they were working with.

I can’t express my surprise, appreciation and excitement at how studying with Stephanie has gone. From day one I was comfortable singing with her. She makes me laugh so much that every class is a blast. I can actually sing now and I know I’ll keep getting better and better as I work with her.

She taught me it’s all about the mechanics of the body and her confidence in my ability to learn made me believe it. I’m so grateful to have found her and the amazing experience of growth and learning I’ve had with her. I look forward to working with her every week and I would highly recommend her to anyone at any level of singing.

About Darrell

Why these lessons are different:
- Formally trained conductor/composer/producer
- Individual or group session options including full band production
- A long roster of satisfied clients
- Broad base of musical styles (rock, classical, jazz, blues, metal, bluegrass, folk, theater, big band, symphonic, pop, punk, country, march, gospel, avant-garde...)
- Over 20 yrs teaching experience and work with recognized professionals including work in some of the top-rated private schools in the United States
- Over 30 years performing experience

Instrument-specific instruction:
- Voice
- Guitar [Spanish, acoustic, electric]
- Electric Bass
- Piano/Keyboard
- Woodwinds [specializing in saxophones]
- Percussion
- Brass & Bowed Strings [performance preparation only]

My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to

) the Classical approach to Western tonal harmony and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. In my experience, this structure creates the strongest foundation for pupils to build the rest of their musical lives on, whether professionally or solely for personal enjoyment. All of my students are on the fast track to studying music theory. Whatever level they are at when I start with them, I guide their efforts into bringing the students up to a certain level of comprehension regarding the mathematical aspects of music and how it relates to their instruments. This understanding of theoretical principles of sound allows the students to play any style of music they wish, no matter how their tastes may change throughout their lives.

Curriculum Gradation:
Elements of rhythm
Elements of pitch
Elements of dynamics
Elements of articulation
Reading/Writing notation
Tone development
Finding/Expanding your range
Dexterity, speed, and accuracy
How to project
How to advance to the next level
Music theory
Playing by ear
Improvisational techniques
Finding your signature style
Expression/Lyricism
Composition/Arrangement
Project Management

Darrell helped me a lot to get a handle on my Ableton rig. I needed to set up midi tracks, locate presets to create cool sounds from plugins. Then I needed to export the audio of a couple of those tracks to import into a separate Pro Tools project. Lot of progress, thanks Darrell! -- Frank S

About Austin

Hello there, I'm Austin Lowrance. Raised on a balanced musical diet of classic rock and 90's country, I received my first guitar in elementary school and began taking the instrument seriously around 12 years old. I've been performing live for the better part of the last decade, and have taken various college level music courses as well. In fact, I still take lessons from time to time from master guitarists like Redd Volkeart; Guitar is an instrument where there is always more to learn. I can help you learn anything from how to strum along to a country song, rock out your favorite AC/DC riffs, or even study the ins and outs of the brilliant technique of master players like Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Brad Paisley, or Brent Mason. I can also teach you music theory as it applies to the guitar; such as how to read music, build and

name chords (and why they work), scales and arpeggios (and how to use them in your playing), as well as an understanding of rhythm and time (a shortcoming of many aspiring guitarists!). I look forward to working with you!

About Hannah

I hold a degree in Jazz Studies from the Jacobs School of Music, where I focused especially on Afro-Cuban music, thanks to the tutelage of Latin Jazz giants Michael Spiro and Wayne Wallace! My jazz background also gave me rigorous training in music theory and history.

My performance career is highly diverse! You like folk? I’ve played with Chicago’s beloved Al Scorch and Della Mae’s guitar star, Courtney Hartman. You like hip-hop? I play and record with artists at Classick Studios, where Chance The Rapper, SZA, and No Name make albums. Indie rock? Part of what got me into bass was underground/DIY scenes—I love playing a good basement show! How about jazz? I’ve done everything from standards gigs at hotels to composing for experimental groups like The Liberation Music Collective.

I’ve also had the pleasure to play with musicians from ov

er 20 countries. One of the most rewarding experiences of my life was being a Fellow for OneBeat, a program run through the U.S. State Department that brings together international musicians to compose, record, and tour together. I have learned so much about the power of music through my relationships with artists from all corners of the globe.

I believe in “Occam’s Razor” bass playing – finding a simple, elegant solution to the “problem” at hand, whether that “problem” is finding a good fingering for a fast-moving melody, finding a tasteful yet interesting bassline for a funk groove, or improving your right-hand speed so you can finally play that one Tool song you’ve always loved. The “Occam’s Razor” approach builds your instincts and helps you become a solid, expressive bassist that everyone wants to play with!

No matter where you are in your musical development, I can be your ally. I have experience teaching all ages and experience levels and can help you go deeper in whatever music lights you up. I can offer advice about musicianship too – how to start a band, how to rock an audition for your school’s jazz ensemble, or how to make the most of a recording session.

Bass is a physically demanding instrument, and over my career I have recovered from multiple injuries. I am committed to helping you develop healthy technique that prevents and manages injuries and adapts to your physical conditions. I try to offer compassion AND solutions to students who struggle physically with their instrument or face health challenges. I’ve been there too, and I’m here to help.

Jonathan
"Randy is super helpful and experienced. I enjoy lessons and practicing. He was able to assess my lifestyle and give me some real tips/insights on effectiv
e practice. He also encouraged the skills I already built to this point. Probably the first teacher I’ve had who didn’t tell me “forget everything you know” because my real education is about to begin. He’s real, he’s practical, and he’s a genuinely good guy. And his years of experience give him this ability to be very direct and efficient with his feedback. It’s a relief to have that especially after studying music for so long. He doesn’t waste your time.

Lastly, I really do enjoy practice. It’s a new feeling lol. I came from a teacher that just tore me down a lot and didn’t build me up much. My confidence was kind of low after that. I didn’t want to practice or perform. Randy helped get me back on the horse. I feel like I have reignited what I live about performance. This was priceless."
