With over 10 years of teaching experience, I specialize in working with students of all ages and abilities. Whether you're starting off playing oboe, switching from another instrument, or getting back into playing after a break, I look forward to helping you reach your goals! Lessons incorporate music theory, technique, and lyrical expression. Students are welcome to bring school and audition music to lessons. If needed, students will be placed in an appropriate method book. I tend to use the Rubank series and the Barret Oboe Method, as well as level appropriate solo pieces. I hold a Master's Degree in Oboe Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach. During my studies I studied with Carolyn Hove and Humbert Lucarelli.
I like music to be fun! I have played in major symphony orchestras, classical and jazz groups, in costume at Universal Studios and surrounding Orlando area and created my own pop oboe CDs. I like to explore all styles of music including pop, rock, jazz and classical.
I like to work on tone, technique, sight reading and musicality in lessons. I also play duets with students during lessons to work on tone blending as well as intonation. I can also teach reed making and reed adjustment.

To become an oboist, it is important to not only learn the music, but to put a little bit of yourself into every note you play. Playing such a unique and beautiful instrument like the oboe is a joy that I look forward to experiencing with each of my students. Every oboe lesson is customized to the individual's desires and needs. Throughout lessons, we will work on basic fundamentals, repertoire, and musicianship. With over 6 years of teaching experience, I am confident that you will be playing in no time! I also specialize in reed-making, and love helping students with their reeds, as well as sell personalized reeds.
I have been playing and teaching oboe for over 35 years. Many of my students have gone on to play in universities with scholarships, but more importantly have developed a love of music. I was the founder and co-artistic director of an award winning chamber group having two on-going subscription series. Within the first few lessons you will be able to read musical notation, understand basic music theory, and play simple songs. Depending on your ability, I will choose the right method book for you. I love working with students of all ages and can't wait to meet you! My teaching style is relaxed, but highly structured. My former students made great advancements with my guidance. However, no advancement can be achieved without the student putting in the necessary time at home to practice their instrument.
Whether you are starting out on oboe, switching from another instrument, preparing for an audition, or simply looking to brush up on your skills, I can help you reach your oboe goals! All lessons are customized to your interests and needs. My teaching experience ranges from complete beginners to advanced students. We can work on everything from the fundamentals and etudes to advanced recital and audition repertoire! For those looking to branch out, we can also cover instrument adjustment, English horn and reed-making in the lessons. Great reeds are vital for oboists and I can help with buying advice or learning to make your own reeds! I can also adjust your reeds or sell personalized reeds in person or via mail. For students wishing to broaden their musical insights, I also can incorporate music theory and history into the lessons - subjects that I teach at the college level. I am a professional oboist residing in New Orleans. I perform with the Louisiana Philharmonic, Rapides and Lake Charles Symphonies and many other ensembles.
