Private Electric Guitar Teacher

I have been playing the guitar for nearly 30 years and teaching for the last 15 years in both private and public school, as a credentialed teacher in California, as well as many, many private lessons. over those years.

I love all styles of music and have been fortunate enough play many different styles including rock, blues, jazz, acoustic, folk.

I tailor the lessons to the students interest in music. I also believe in teaching guitar students how to read music notation to expand their musical ability and opportunity.

Lessons are always fun, upbeat and positive, with a clear objective.

About john

Originally from San Diego, JP had his first introduction to music when his father brought home a harmonica for him at age 8. He learned "Old Susanna" by ear, and was hooked on music. He was playing trumpet by age 10, and guitar by 14. Early lessons were in rock and blues, and by age 15 JP was playing in local bars and clubs, opening for bands like Iron Butterfly, The Untouchables, Cake, and Switchfoot. In college at the University of California San Diego, JP earned a BA in Music, studying classical composition with Chinary Ung, and Robert Roger Reynolds. After college JP worked as a freelance musician in the San Diego area, playing in pits for San Diego Musical Theatre Company, Latin gigs with the Bi-National Mambo Orchestra, Operas in Tijuana, Jazz Festivals in Ensenada and San Diego, and a weekly jazz brunch. JP continued to freel

ance and teach private lessons while earning an MM in Jazz Studies at San Diego State in 2007.

JP has taught Music in public schools since 2007, in both San Diego and Los Angeles County, and is a California Credentialed teacher.

JP takes a "student-centered" approach to teaching and uses his varied background to help create a customized course that is just right for each student.

*** Lesson Details ***
JP has been teaching for 15 years to students aged 5 to 65, and is well versed in the styles of jazz, blues, rock, punk, folk, finger style, acoustic or electric. During his lessons, JP covers topics ranging from learning how to play starting from the basics, improving your technical chops, your ear, sight-reading, theoretical knowledge, and improvisation, as well as guitar maintenance, amplifiers, and effects. JP feels it's important to let the student's interest determine the direction of the lessons. The curriculum of each lesson is tailored to the student. He is also a very patient teacher and presents material in an easily digestible manner.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Garage studio or front room - guitars, bass, trumpet etc.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to provide their own instrument, and amplification if required for electric guitar.

*** Specialties ***
I teach all students to read music and approach and teach the ability to write music and improvise.

Electric guitar can be intimidating! Amps and pedals provide a wide variety of sound, but which one is right for you? Together we will work to build the precision necessarry to get your instrument sounding great!

About Claire

My name is Claire and I have been making a living as a touring/gigging musician for the last eight years. I studied music performance and production at Columbia College Chicago. I have played in a variety of styles, both solo and as part of a band. I currently tour with my band, The Lucky Dutch on keys and vocals. My students start their journey learning music of their choice, sparking interest and enthusiasm from the very first lesson. My motto is "Relentless Positivity" and it shows in my lessons. There is never a consequence for a wrong answer or misplaced note and the worst thing that can happen is we play it again. We will work together to navigate this inspiring and often humbling path.

A word on cancellations: consistency is the most important aspect of music education. With that in mind, I need to maintain a strict scheduling p

olicy for canceled or missed lessons. While I will try to accommodate illnesses and emergencies, I do ask for 24 hour advanced notice when canceling.
I will have to charge full lesson price for late cancellations and no shows.
Thank you!
~Claire

Claire is extremely patient, positive, and most importantly knowledgeable. After only five lessons, she's given me a lot to work with and I can without a doubt say my singing has improved.

I recommend Claire to anyone interested in improving their singing, regardless of skill level, age, style, etc. She's fantastic!

My method of teaching focuses on building up strengths and knowledge so that a student can become proficient at learning on their own. I do this by creating a custom curriculum for each individual I teach. This accomplishes two things, keeping you as a student entertained and enthusiastic. I have background in music theory, and have taught for several years to beginners, and intermediate students. This has allowed me to learn to adapt to each individuals learning style so that they progress quickly, and comfortably.

About Austin

Austin has been teaching private lessons since 2012. Austin has helped students find passion in music, prepare for performances, complete classes, and overcome stage fright. He also has taught several people with autism, helping them find a path that is suited for them. Allowing them to thrive in the subject.

Austin took private piano lessons in 2007 - 2009 with a professor from Stetson University. Austin was also mentored in guitar with several instructors over the course of 2 years. As an expert in his field, Austin looks forward to helping new students achieve their goals. Austin's goal is to create an environment that is personable, fun, informative and energetic!

Experienced music teacher with nearly 10 years experience teaching students of all ages and abilities from beginner to advanced. I also have experience teaching music to students with special needs, including autism and total vision impairment. I begin accepting students for guitar at age 8 and teach students up to age 99+. For students younger than 8 who wish to learn guitar, I start them on a ukulele which is much easier for very young students to handle. With lessons from me, you'll learn to read music and understand tab, develop your ear for hearing music (ear training), music theory, and technique with a goal of getting you playing your favorite style of music in the quickest time possible. I can teach you to play whatever style you wish. I can even help you learn to compose your own music! To accomplish that, I use a variety of learning aids and games to assist you in learning to read music and understand the deeper concepts of music theory. I taylor my teaching style to each ...

About Elizabeth

I grew up in a musical family. My mother was a piano teacher for 20 years, and my father could play any instrument he decided to pick up. From as young as I can remember, music was always surrounding me. I came to love it in all its forms and styles.
I began playing piano when I was a little girl. As a teenager, I learned guitar, harmonica, and drums. Since then, I have been devoted to learning as much as I can about music theory, composition, music history, and musical instruments. I'm currently learning the violin and hope to add mandolin and banjo to my musical repertoire in the near future. I'm also working on making my own method books and composing music.
I began teaching music back in 2010.
