I teach every student the technical skills and applied theory necessary to work in any contemporary style on guitar. I use the "Be better than you have to be" approach. Want to be the best on a bad day? Be better than your chosen style requires. I studied classical and jazz in order to excel at rock, folk and blues.
You will learn to read music and charts for guitar, as well as movable scale patterns, movable chord forms, and how to apply it all to master the fretboard.
Have you hit a road block? I can help. Are you brand new and want to be sure you understand the instrument completely? I can help.

I've been teaching guitar for 5 years helping students develop a love for the instrument and learn more about music along the way. There are many styles I'm comfortable teaching from folk (fingerpicking or flatpicking), rock, blues and funk and I would love working on developing a unique style of your own. Within the first few lessons you'll have a solid base of strumming, picking and chord changes and even a few simple songs under your belt. Moving on from there I will craft lessons to move you toward a "goal song," making sure to cater your progress to your needs while keeping a focus on good technique. I enjoy working with students of all ages and experiences and I can't wait to meet you!

My teaching philosophy is all about self-education: not only will I teach you how to play the guitar but I will also help you learn how to teach yourself. The work required to learn an instrument doesn't come from 30 to 60 minutes of lessons from a professional, it comes from the intensity of focus you spend playing the guitar throughout your time outside of lessons.

We will start with the end in mind; what is your goal? What music or songs do you want to learn? Then, together we will build a lesson plan to accomplish that goal. Throughout the lesson plan, along with playing your favorite songs, we will cover several aspects of being a musician: proper technique; musical interpretation and expression; music theory, which will include understanding notes, scales, chords, harmonic progressions, and analyzing music; communication when performing with other musicians; and building habits and techniques toward effective practicing.

The great thing about this process is it establishes ...

"Will is an excellent teacher who has taught bass, acoustic and electric guitar to our son for the last 7 years.

Will's unique teaching method allows the student to assume ownership of the learning process. His student-driven lessons had our son playing songs from the very beginning. Not chords or scales, but songs that he chose. It has kept my son engaged and passionate about music throughout his childhood.

Will is also exceptionally flexible and kind, making it easy for us to fit lessons into our schedule. He has really shaped our son's childhood and love of music. We are so thankful and would highly recommend him as an excellent teacher for any student."

Hers was slower and more detailed, showing the chords clearly- and talking about the timing was very helpful! She even took the time to answer my question about being unable to hold the strings correctly. Great teacher!"

The lesson started with Jeremie understanding what I already knew and then going forward from there instead of going over things that I already knew. "I am in my 40s and getting back into playing after taking lessons for a year 10 years ago and quitting (like most people). Madyson is very patient and tailors lessons to what her students are into. It has been a mix of both traditional lessons along with just helping me strum my favorite camp fire kind of music making the lessons engaging and allot of fun. Highly recommend for either kids or adults! I find I make myself practice for 10 minutes each night and then 10 minutes becomes 2 hours because I am having so much fun with it thanks to Madyson's great work!"
